  • Publication number: 20060069873
Abstract: Systems, methodologies, media, and other embodiments associated with cache systems are described. One exemplary system embodiment includes an instruction cache comprising single-ported memories. The example system can further include a cache control logic configured to process cache events of different types that may be received by the instruction cache, and being configured with a multi-stage pipeline that coordinates processing of the cache events to the single-ported memories. The multi-stage pipeline can have different stages pre-assigned as read/write stages for the cache events to minimize access conflicts between the cache events.

  • Publication number: 20060009321
Abstract: A hybrid clamping mechanism for a belt continuously variable transmission (CVT) is disclosed. A pulley having adjustable belt-engagement surfaces allow for a variable effective diameter of the belt when about the pulley. A clamping spring disposed to bias the belt-engagement surfaces closer together exert a clamping force on the belt. A first hydraulic drive is disposed to assist the clamping force of the clamping spring, and a second hydraulic drive is disposed to oppose the clamping force of the clamping spring. The total clamping force at the belt results from the clamping spring, the first hydraulic drive, the second hydraulic drive, or any combination comprising at least one of the foregoing.

  • Patent number: 6961957
Abstract: A ballistic vest having a front panel and a rear panel attached to each other by releasable connectors. The front and rear panel each have a ballistic package having a plurality of sheets of ballistic material and a semi-rigid frame structure attached to the layers of the ballistic material. The frame structure has a plurality of members defining openings in the frame structure wherein the frame structure absorbs energy from a projectile entering the sheets of ballistic material.

  • Publication number: 20050219947
Abstract: An element for use in a stationary material distribution apparatus. The article includes a flat generally rectangular central portion having first and second sets of ears affixed opposite sides of the central portion. The sets of ears include first and second ears bent respectively in upward and downward directions relative to the plane of the central portion wherein each pair of ears located diagonally opposite one another across the central portion are bent in the same direction relative to the plane of the central portion. A third set of ears extend from the central portion and terminate at a substantially rectangular member whose plane of orientation is substantially perpendicular to the central portion. The element further includes a retaining ring affixed to the substantially rectangular member to provide for ease of installation within a suitable conduit.

  • Publication number: 20050222736
Abstract: A method is provided for controlling engagement of a clutch which carries torque before, during and after a shifting event in a transmission which is connected to a throttle-controlled engine. The method includes providing a feed forward input command which increases as the engine torque increases and decreases as the engine torque decreases. A feed-back input command is provided as a function of the error between measured clutch slip and a reference slip profile. The feed-forward input command and feed-back input command are summed to provide a clutch control command for controlling engagement of the clutch before, during and after the shifting event to allow a desired amount of clutch slip to damp excitation of the transmission.

  • Publication number: 20050125709
Abstract: An apparatus and method for synchronous communications using a serial data stream employs a housing with a controller and a back plane. The housing accepts one or more modules for interconnection with the back plane. The back plane distributes power to the modules and provides a communication link from the controller to each module. Each communication link includes a data out line, a data in line and a clock line, where each clock line is derived from one clock source.

  • Publication number: 20050075775
Abstract: A vehicle having an automatic transmission includes a roll-back detector that generates a roll-back signal indicating a vehicle roll-back event. A controller receives the roll-back signal and determines whether the automatic transmission is in a forward drive mode having first and second torque transfer elements engaged. The controller engages a third torque transfer element to prevent the vehicle roll-back event.

  • Patent number: 6804769
Abstract: A unified buffer, comprising a shifting queue, receives instructions to be tracked by receiving units in a computer architecture. The receiving units search the unified buffer from the oldest entry to the most recent entry. Status bits in each entry indicate which of the receiving unit(s) the entry is destined for. Existing entries in the unified buffer shift down when a new entry is inserted at the top. Entries may be passed to different receiving units by updating the status bits; and an entry expires after it has been accepted by its final receiving unit.
