  • Patent number: 8665596
Abstract: Power switching circuitry has a heat absorbing structure, and a heat conductive substrate having power switching components on a first surface and a second surface adjacent to the heat absorbing structure. Electrically conductive members, comprising first and second members, are on the first surface and extend along a first axis orthogonal to the heat conductive substrate. The second portion is more remote from the heat conductive substrate, and has a smaller cross-sectional area than, the first portion to define a shoulder region orthogonal to the first axis. A circuit board is located on the shoulder regions, with the second portions extending through the circuit board. An urging mechanism urges the circuit board against the shoulder regions, whereby the electrically conductive members provide a current path between the heat conductive substrate and the circuit board, and urge the heat conductive substrate into thermal contact with the heat absorbing structure.

  • Publication number: 20140010352
Abstract: A radiation beam, for example a therapeutic radiation beam such as an IMRT or VMAT X-ray beam is monitored using a Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor (MAPS) detector. Photons of the radiation beam can interact with the MAPS detector, and the radiation beam configuration can be estimated from the determined positions of the interactions. The detector is made sufficiently thin that it interacts only very weakly with the X-ray photons. For example, less than 1 in 103 of the X-ray photons might interact with the detector. Hence, the disturbance to the X-ray beam is negligible.

  • Publication number: 20130292210
Abstract: An elevator control system to govern elevator movement to avoid or minimize passenger discomfort caused by pressure changes associated with an elevator's movement and to optimize elevator operation. In one exemplary embodiment, the system uses the passenger's natural relief which occurs while the elevator car is stopped to reduce the pressure difference experienced by the passengers' ears as a factor to optimally control the operation of the elevator. In another example, the system obtains input regarding the traveling speed and conditions of the elevator system. This system then simulates individual trips for passengers that includes monitoring the pressure changes being experienced by passengers throughout the elevator's travels in order to ensure that the pressure differential level for each passenger remains below a designated maximum comfortable and safe level. This system uses the parameters of a successful simulation to govern the actual operation of the elevators.

  • Publication number: 20130228435
Abstract: Sensor stack venting techniques are described. In one or more implementations, one or more vent structures are formed within layers of a pressure sensitive sensor stack for a device. Vent structures including channels, holes, slots, and so forth are designed to provide pathways for gas released by feature elements to escape. The pathways may be arranged to convey outgases through the layers to designated escape points in a controlled manner that prevents deformities typically caused by trapped gases. The escape points in some layers enable at least some other layers to be edge-sealed. Pathways may then be formed to convey gas from the edge-sealed layer(s) to an edge vented layer(s) having one or more escape points, such that feature elements in the edge-sealed layer(s) remain protected from contaminants.

  • Patent number: 8471422
Abstract: An apparatus for transferring torque magnetically with a primary rotary member and a secondary rotary member, wherein said rotary members are disc shaped and are sandwiched between one another. The primary rotary member has permanent magnets mounted radially on a disc, the secondary rotary member having disc geometry with electro conductive material arranged on it. The secondary rotary member also having magnetically permeable material. The new improvements herein have modified the earlier cylindrical design to that of a an alternative disk—plate/shape design utilizing the similar magnetic circuit that which overcomes some deficiencies/problems in the prior art, in that the prior art required more precision alignment of the electro-conductive rotor inside the magnetic can array and requires additional strength in the foundations of the machinery in order to maintain the air gap between the magnet can and the rotor assembly.

  • Patent number: 8386844
Abstract: An array of logic devices capable of self-determining the program, inputs and outputs from configuration information provided by its nearest neighbors. The rules used by each device to self-determine its behavior are identical to those of every other device in the array. This facilitates the development of robust array configurations and robust behavior of the device as a whole. This system's logic devices utilize three shift-registers, two are programmed before operation, the third is programmed on-the-fly by the other two. This facilitates a fast response to changes in the performance of the array in the event of partial dynamic or static failures of the array. An iterative design algorithm for the array ensures optimum use of the resources of the array.
