  • Publication number: 20120281831
Abstract: A secret stream of bits begins by receiving a public random stream contained in a wireless communication signal at a transmit/receive unit. The public random stream is sampled and specific bits are extracted according to a shared common secret. These extracted bits are used to create a longer secret stream. The shared common secret may be generated using JRNSO techniques, or provided to the transmit/receive units prior to the communication session. Alternatively, one of the transmit/receive unit is assumed to be more powerful than any potential eavesdropper. In this situation, the powerful transmit/receive unit may broadcast and store a public random stream. The weaker transmit/receive unit selects select random bits of the broadcast for creating a key. The weaker transmit/receive unit sends the powerful transmit/receive unit the selected bit numbers, and powerful transmit/receive unit uses the random numbers to produce the key created by the weaker transmit/receive unit.

  • Patent number: 8179836
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling transmissions of data via an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) are disclosed. A list of available transport format combinations (TFCs) is generated based on a plurality of dedicated channel medium access control (MAC-d) flows. An enhanced uplink medium access control (MAC-e) protocol data unit (PDU) is generated using a TFC which is selected from the list of available TFCs. The MAC-e PDU is forwarded to a hybrid-automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) process unit for transmission. The list of available TFCs is continuously updated by eliminating and recovering TFCs based on remaining E-DCH power, an E-DCH transport format combination set (TFCS), a power offset of a highest priority MAC-d flow that has E-DCH data to transmit, and a gain factor for each TFC.

  • Publication number: 20120115503
Abstract: A user may point a control device at a controllable device for which control is desired, and the control device may detect the targeted controllable device. Additionally, the control device may detect a plurality of wireless nodes and list the available wireless nodes. For example, the control device may identify wireless nodes associated with a particular room in the house, or the control device may detect the wireless nodes within a certain range. The list may be a selectable list and a user may select the desired device to control from the list. Upon detection or user selection, the control device may establish control of the wireless node and initiate actions associated with the selected device.

  • Patent number: 8081595
Abstract: A method and apparatus for scheduling transmissions via an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) are disclosed. A scheduled power is calculated for scheduled data flows. A remaining transmit power is calculated for the E-DCH transmission. A rate request message is generated, wherein the scheduled power, remaining transmit power and rate request message are used to select transport format combinations (TFCs) and multiplex data scheduled for the E-DCH transmission. The remaining transmit power is calculated by subtracting from a maximum allowed power the power of a dedicated physical data channel (DPDCH), a dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH), a high speed dedicated physical control channel (HS-DPCCH), an enhanced uplink dedicated physical control channel (E-DPCCH) and a power margin.

  • Publication number: 20110299450
Abstract: A method for multicasting a packet begins by providing a buffer for each of two user equipments (UEs) in communication with a base station. A determination is made whether there is a previously unsent packet at the base station. A second determination is made whether both UE buffers are non-empty. A non-empty buffer is flushed if there is no previously unsent packet and if one of the buffers is non-empty. A packet is selected to be transmitted if there is a previously unsent packet or if both buffers are non-empty. The buffers are updated based on feedback received from the UEs.

  • Publication number: 20110149915
Abstract: Upon the UE transmission power requirement exceeding the maximum or allowable transmission power the MAC may be informed for subsequent TFC selection of all TFCs that currently exceed this limit. The UE may then chose the TFC with the next lower transmission power requirement and the sequence will continue until an acceptable TFC is determined. The system also enables the replacement of the TFCs in the TFCS and advanced determination of non-supported TFCs. The TFCs that require transmission power greater then the maximum or allowed UE transmission power shall be determined continuously in every TTI, not just in TTIs where the maximum power has been exceeded.

  • Patent number: 7768953
Abstract: A system and method that achieve power savings by turning off all or some of the baseband processing for codes and timeslots that have not been transmitted due to full DTX. When full DTX is detected by reception of a Special Burst (SB), the receiver is turned off for all timeslots and frames for the duration of the Special Burst Scheduling Period (SBSP). The transmitter schedules transmissions following any idle period to start on the boundary of the SBSP. The receiver determines the SBSP and if the transmitter initiates transmissions according to SBSP by reception of several initial full DTX cycles.

  • Patent number: 7706482
Abstract: A method for differential phase evaluation of M-ary communication data is employed in which the data consists of N sequential symbols r1 . . . rN, each having one of M transmitted phases. Selected sequences of N?1 elements that represent possible sequences of phase differentials are evaluated using multiple-symbol differential detection. Using r1 as the reference for each phase differential estimate, sN?1 phase differential sequences are selected in the form (P2i, P3i, . . . , PNi) for i=1 to s for evaluating said symbol set, where s is predetermined and 1<s<M. Each set of s phase differential estimate values are chosen based on being the closest in value to the actual transmitted phase differential value. These s phase differential estimates can be determined mathematically as those which produce the maximum results using conventional differential detection.

  • Patent number: 7680071
Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing power during discontinuous reception (DRX) mode are disclosed. A DRX mode is defined for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for reducing power consumption of the WTRU. During the DRX mode, the WTRU enters into a sleep state and periodically wakes up for processing paging blocks for detecting a paging indication for the WTRU and a corresponding paging message. If the WTRU is paged the WTRU terminates the DRX mode. If the WTRU is not paged, the WTRU reenters the sleep state. For power management during the DRX mode, a synchronization update period is defined. The synchronization update period is a period for performing automatic frequency correction and/or frame time correction.
