Publication number: 20080089518Abstract: A secret stream of bits begins by receiving a public random stream contained in a wireless communication signal at a transmit/receive unit. The public random stream is sampled and specific bits are extracted according to a shared common secret. These extracted bits are used to create a longer secret stream. The shared common secret may be generated using JRNSO techniques, or provided to the transmit/receive units prior to the communication session. Alternatively, one of the transmit/receive unit is assumed to be more powerful than any potential eavesdropper. In this situation, the powerful transmit/receive unit may broadcast and store a public random stream. The weaker transmit/receive unit selects select random bits of the broadcast for creating a key. The weaker transmit/receive unit sends the powerful transmit/receive unit the selected bit numbers, and powerful transmit/receive unit uses the random numbers to produce the key created by the weaker transmit/receive unit.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 12, 2007Publication date: April 17, 2008Applicant: INTERDIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Alexander Reznik, Alain Briancon, Yevgeniy Dodis, Yogendra Shah, Chunxuan Ye, Robert DiFazio, Inhyok Cha

Patent number: 7313117Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and system for enabling efficient reduction of TFCs in the TFCS to achieve desired transmission, while remaining within desired power and data requirements. Upon the UE transmission power requirement exceeding the maximum or allowable transmission power the MAC shall be informed for subsequent TFC selection of all TFCs that currently exceed this limit. The UE will then chose the TFC with the next lower transmission power requirement and the sequence will continue until an acceptable TFC is determined. The present invention also enables the replacement of the TFCs in the TFCS and advanced determination of non-supported TFCs. The TFCs that require transmission power greater then the maximum or allowed UE transmission power shall be determined continuously in every TTI, not just in TTIs where the maximum power has been exceeded.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 2006Date of Patent: December 25, 2007Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Stephen E. Publication number: 20070064662Abstract: A method and apparatus for managing power during discontinuous reception (DRX) mode are disclosed. A DRX mode is defined for a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) for reducing power consumption of the WTRU. During the DRX mode, the WTRU enters into a sleep state and periodically wakes up for processing paging blocks for detecting a paging indication for the WTRU and a corresponding paging message. If the WTRU is paged the WTRU terminates the DRX mode. If the WTRU is not paged, the WTRU reenters the sleep state. For power management during the DRX mode, a synchronization update period is defined. The synchronization update period is a period for performing automatic frequency correction and/or frame time correction.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2005Publication date: March 22, 2007Applicant: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Aykut Bultan, John Haim, Kenneth Kearney, Robert DiFazio, Donald Grieco

Publication number: 20070036353Abstract: The present invention relates to secret key generation and authentication methods that are based on joint randomness not shared by others (JRNSO), in which unique channel response between two communication terminals generates a secret key. Multiple network access points use a unique physical location of a receiving station to increase user data security. High data rate communication data is encrypted by generating a random key and a pseudo-random bit stream. A configurable interleaving is achieved by introduction of JRNSO bits to an encoder used for error-correction codes. Databases of user data are also protected by JRNSO-based key mechanisms. Additional random qualities are induced on the joint channel using MIMO eigen-beamforming, antenna array deflection, polarization selection, pattern deformation, and path selection by beamforming or time correlation. Gesturing induces randomness according to uniquely random patterns of a human user's arm movements inflected to the user device.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 31, 2006Publication date: February 15, 2007Applicant: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Alexander Reznik, Debashish Purkayastha, Steven Goldberg, Robert Olesen, Marian Rudolf, Inhyok Cha, Alan Carlton, Yogendra Shah, Shamim Rahman, Rajat Mukherjee, Robert DiFazio, Gregory Sternberg, Leonid Kazakevich, Kazimierz Siwiak, Guodong Zhang, Tanbir Haque, Louis Guccione, Prabhakar Chitrapu, Akinlolu Kumoluyi, Alain Briancon

Publication number: 20060268884Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling transmissions of data via an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) are disclosed. A list of available transport format combinations (TFCs) is generated based on a plurality of dedicated channel medium access control (MAC-d) flows. An enhanced uplink medium access control (MAC-e) protocol data unit (PDU) is generated using a TFC which is selected from the list of available TFCs. The MAC-e PDU is forwarded to a hybrid-automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) process unit for transmission. The list of available TFCs is continuously updated by eliminating and recovering TFCs based on remaining E-DCH power, an E-DCH transport format combination set (TFCS), a power offset of a highest priority MAC-d flow that has E-DCH data to transmit, and a gain factor for each TFC.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2006Publication date: November 30, 2006Applicant: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Stephen Terry, Guodong Zhang, Jung-LIn Pan, Peter Wang, Robert DiFazio

Patent number: 7016330Abstract: Enhanced methods for channel quality estimation utilize soft symbol output data to generate a statistic or set of statistics that are representative of BER for each of a plurality of bursts corresponding to a composite channel. The statistics are mapped into a BER estimate to generate individual BER estimates for each of the plurality of bursts. The individual BER estimates are combined to obtain an estimate of the BER for the entire composite channel. Alternatively, the BER estimate for the composite channel may then be mapped into a quality estimate for the composite channel using a monotonic function.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2003Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Philip J.
