  • Publication number: 20070119747
Abstract: A composition and method of inhibiting corrosion caused by naphthenic acid in fluids includes using a combination of a thiophosphorus compound and a hydrogen sulfide scavenging compound. The hydrogen sulfide scavenging compound significantly enhances the performance of the thiophosphorus compound and may be included at relatively low levels in the composition. The treatment may be applied to fluids including crude oils and lighter fractions thereof.

  • Publication number: 20060283189
Abstract: A combustor has a flow sleeve and a flow liner defining a generally axial flow direction of compressor discharge air toward combustor burners. A casing is secured to the forward end of the flow sleeve defining an annular plenum along the interior of the flow sleeve. Openings through the flow sleeve supply compressor discharge air into the plenum where the air changes direction for flow through apertures into and generally coaxially with the free air stream. The axial injection minimizes or eliminates energy losses due to cross flow injection within the axial air stream while continuing to cool the liner.

  • Publication number: 20060136332
Abstract: A method is disclosed of authenticating a consumer and authorizing a transaction over a network. The method includes first requesting, by a user, performance of a transaction between said user and a merchant, the user and the merchant performing the transaction over a non-secure web page. The user then enters transaction request information into a non-secure general purpose computer, and then enters a PIN into a graphic interface of the non-secure web page on the non-secure general purpose computer. providing, by the non-secure general purpose computer, the transaction request information and a PIN data package, the PIN data package being a digital representation of an impression of the users selection of at least one graphic image representing their PIN to a secure transaction manager via an internet system. The transaction manager then combines at least one of dynamic and corollary data with the PIN data package and securely provides the combination to a hardware security module (HSM).

  • Publication number: 20060123465
Abstract: A system for authentication over an open network includes at least a first endpoint on the open network and a second endpoint on the open network that require authentication of a transaction therebetween. A transaction authority communicates with the first endpoint and the second endpoint via the open network. An ATM network is accessible by the authentication authority for authenticating the first and the second endpoint within the ATM network. A biometric network is accessible by the authentication authority for authenticating the first and the second endpoint within the biometric network. The transaction authority extends the authorization capabilities of the ATM network to the first and the second endpoints via the open network to provide authentication of the first and the second endpoints and also extends the authorization capabilities of the biometric network to the first and the second endpoints via the open network to provide authentication of the first and the second endpoints.

  • Publication number: 20050153779
Abstract: A lottery management server includes a processor communicably connected to an open network. A database may be communicably connected to the processor. The processor collects lottery ticket sales information from a terminal communicably connected to the open network. The processor stores the lottery ticket sales information in the database. The processor transfers funds from a user account when a lottery ticket is purchased.

  • Publication number: 20050055318
Abstract: A system and method of secure PIN processing in a network transaction includes a transaction manager that sends terminal data to a terminal. The terminal generates corollary data from user input and the terminal data. The corollary data is sent to the transaction manager. The transaction manager then sends the corollary data and HSM data to a hardware security module. The hardware security module generates a PIN from the corollary data and the HSM data, encrypts the PIN and generates a PIN block. The transaction manager uses the PIN block and transaction data to send a transaction request to the ATM Network.

  • Publication number: 20040147938
Abstract: An apparatus for controllably delivering an IOL into the eye of a patient is disclosed. The device is configured for convenient and reliable positioning of a plunger rod assembly at different stages of the IOL injection procedure, such that various aspects of the insertion procedure can be performed precisely and reliably by a user of the device. The present invention may include a latch pin and a latch finger configured for engagement with the latch pin to prevent proximal lateral movement of the plunger rod assembly so that the intra-ocular lens may be accurately positioned within the eye. The device assists the user during the procedure by accurately and consistently positioning the plunger rod assembly prior to ejection of the folded or rolled IOL from the insertion device.

  • Publication number: 20040044739
Abstract: A PIN authenticated transaction is performed by collecting representational data from a terminal. The representational data is then transmitted from the terminal to a PIN processor where the representational data is processed to generate a PIN. The transaction is then authenticated using the generated PIN.

  • Patent number: 5708681
Abstract: A technique for controlling the transmission power level of a transmitter, particularly in a wireless personal communication system, is disclosed. This technique assists in the prevention of interference between transceivers from degrading the quality of transmissions. Transmission power level is controlled through a hybrid circuit containing both digital and analog electronics. The transmission power level is set by controlling both the amount by which a data stream is compressed and the gain of an analog transmit power amplifier. This approach allows adequate control over the transmission power level; it avoids the need for utilizing excessively wide data paths for the digital transmit signals (which may compromise portable terminal battery consumption), or utilizing expensive, hard-to-calibrate analog electronics.

  • Patent number: 5636208
Abstract: An improved technique for simultaneously performing bit synchronization and error detection of received digital data bursts in a time division multiplexed/time division multiple access (TDM/TDMA) system, such as that used in conjunction with low power portable digital telephony. With the improved technique both bit synchronization and error detection are performed simultaneously to thereby reduce latency in the transceiver. Since round-trip delay is reduced, echo suppression techniques may not be needed.

  • Patent number: 5475677
Abstract: In a TDM/TDMA portable radio communications system, a portable handset is compatible for operation in both a frequency-division duplexing (FDD) mode for communication in the licensed portion of the Emerging Technologies frequency band, and in a time-division duplexing (TDD) mode for communication in the unlicensed portion of the Emerging Technologies frequency band. In the FDD mode, different frequencies are used to separate a downlink transmission to a portable from a port from an uplink transmission from a port to a portable. In the TDD mode, uplink and downlink transmissions are separated in different time-slots, but at the same frequency. The handset includes common transmit and receive circuitry that operates at fixed IF frequencies that are separated in frequency by the fixed FDD frequency difference between corresponding uplink and downlink signals.
