  • Publication number: 20140328692
Abstract: A rotor blade assembly for a wind turbine includes a rotor blade having a pressure side, a suction side, a leading edge, and a trailing edge. A vortex generator accessory is mounted to either of the suction side or pressure side and includes a base portion and a protrusion member extending upwardly from the base portion. An attachment layer connects the base portion to the suction or pressure side. The attachment layer has a lower shear modulus than the base portion to allow for shear slippage between the base portion and the underlying suction or pressure side.

  • Publication number: 20140328687
Abstract: Rotor blade assemblies for wind turbines are provided. A rotor blade assembly includes a rotor blade. In some embodiments, the rotor blade assembly further includes a surface feature configured on an exterior surface of the rotor blade, the surface feature having an exterior mounting surface. At least a portion of the exterior mounting surface has a contour in an uninstalled state that is different from a curvature of the exterior surface of the rotor blade at a mount location of the surface feature on the rotor blade. In other embodiments, the rotor blade assembly further includes a seal member surrounding at least a portion of a perimeter of the surface feature. The seal member contacts and provides a transition between the exterior surface and the surface feature.

  • Publication number: 20130189103
Abstract: A rotor blade assembly for a wind turbine, and a method for installing a rotor blade assembly on a wind turbine, are disclosed. The rotor blade assembly includes a rotor blade having exterior surfaces defining an aerodynamic profile including a pressure side and a suction side extending between a leading edge and a trailing edge. The rotor blade further extends in a generally span-wise direction between a root and a tip. The rotor blade assembly further includes a blade extension extending in the generally span-wise direction from the root towards the tip, and a plurality of connection devices connecting the blade extension to the rotor blade. Each of the plurality of connection devices includes a mechanical fastener extending through the root in the generally span-wise direction for connecting the rotor blade to a hub of the wind turbine.

  • Publication number: 20120260613
Abstract: A container includes a lid having a first breachable portion and a second breachable portion, the first breachable portion being breachable to permit passage of the container contents therethrough; the second breachable portion separate to the first, the second breachable portion being breachable to allow at least partial depressurisation of the container; a single piece opening member attached to the lid and rotatable about the attachment between a first non-breaching position and a second breaching position, the single piece opening member forming a lever having a first end for impinging on the first breachable portion; and a second end of the single piece opening member includes a protrusion, upon rotation of the single piece opening member to the second breaching position and upon a downward application of force of impinging on and breaching the second breachable portion, the protrusion equalising pressure between the container contents and the external environment.

  • Patent number: 8250761
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a rotor blade for a wind turbine and a rotor blade manufactured in accordance with such method are disclosed. The method generally comprises providing a blade blank formed at least partially from a filler material, shaping the blade blank to form a profile of the rotor blade and positioning a skin around an outer perimeter of the shaped blade blank.

  • Publication number: 20100294771
Abstract: A container having: a lid having a first and second breachable portions; the first breachable portion capable of being breached to permit passage of the container contents therethrough; the second breachable portion separate from the first, the second breachable portion capable of being breached to allow at least partial depressurisation of the container, a single piece opening member attached at substantially one end thereof to the lid and having a first end for impinging on the first breachable portion to breach same; and a second end of the single piece opening member includes a protrusion capable upon a downward application of force of impinging on and breaching the second breachable portion on the container lid to equalise pressure between the container contents and the external environment.

  • Patent number: 5906781
Abstract: A method for forming a ceramic mold comprises the step of placing a pattern having critical pattern surfaces in a flask having an open end. The critical pattern surfaces face upward toward the open end. Successive steps include adding a concentrated heat reversible gel solution to the flask to cover the critical pattern surfaces, and cooling the gel solution to form an elastic solid gel mold. The gel mold has critical gel mold surfaces inverse to the critical pattern surfaces. Further steps include removing the pattern from the elastic gel mold, casting a ceramic mold around the gel mold, and liquifying the gel mold to remove it from the ceramic mold. The ceramic mold has critical ceramic surfaces inverse to the critical gel mold surfaces, thereby accurately replicating the critical pattern surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5568677
Abstract: A burial casket so configured of a non-biodegradable, corrosion-proof material to obtain the required mechanical strength with a minimum of material. The self-sealing gasket made of resilient material helps hold the cover on the casket and compresses at right angles to the direction the cover is put on the casket. An air valve allows the cover to be put on or taken off easily, the casket tested for air tightness, oxygen to be purged from the casket, and an inert gas to be pressurized to slow decomposition of the cadaver in the casket. A relief valve-filter assembly relieves and deodorizes any excessive pressure caused by decompositions gases.

  • Patent number: 5520597
Abstract: A light weight trainer to help infants to learn to walk safely, efficiently and effectively. A broad base provides a tip resistant trainer that can be easily and quickly adjusted to a comfortable height for different infants. This trainer can be locked into a folded position of minimum volume for packing, transporting and storage without tools. A scaled up model would provide more security and ease of use to adult users.

  • Patent number: 4478515
Abstract: A mixer for mortar, plaster, fireproofing material and the like utilizing a plurality of mixing paddles supported from a horizontal shaft in a pivotal mixing drum. Six paddles are mounted on the shaft and are oriented in a unique arrangement by which they rotate in a triple eight mixing action constantly dividing and recombining the mixture again and again thereby resulting in a smooth, uniform mix. The paddles are provided with blades arranged so that material in the end of the drum is pushed half way to the middle of the drum by the first blade. The second blade pushes material from the center of the drum halfway toward the end. The next following blade then cuts the resulting pile into two approximately equal parts and pushes one part that has been cut from the pile toward the opposite end of the drum. This action occurs simultaneously at both ends of the drum every time the paddle shaft revolves 360.degree. and up to 50 cycles per minute depending, of course, upon the rotational speed of the paddle shaft.
