  • Publication number: 20140191846
Abstract: An electronic device (100) includes a control circuit (108) that is operable with a memory or storage device (120). The electronic device includes an RFID tag (113) having a second memory (118). The RFID tag can be read from, or written to, by a RFID communication device (114) when the electronic device is OFF. Device personalization can be achieved when the control circuit accesses the second memory to retrieve the device configuration data during a boot sequence and configures the electronic device in accordance with the device configuration data retrieved from the second memory during the boot sequence. Device information can be made available when the electronic device is OFF by writing the device information to the second memory.

  • Patent number: 8775515
Abstract: A system and method for providing student performance alerts in an online learning environment is provided. An online learning environment is monitored. A score for a test taken by a student at a first time is received. One or more previous scores for previous tests taken by the student at previous times are obtained. The score is compared with one or more of the previous scores to determine a difference between the score and the one or more previous scores. A change threshold is applied to the difference and the difference is determined to be significant when the difference is outside the threshold. An alert for the significant difference is transmitted to one or more recipients associated with the student.

  • Patent number: 8774304
Abstract: A method in a first communication device configured to transmit data units to a second communication device via a forward link, and receive data units from the second communication device via a reverse link, includes transmitting, from the first communication device, consecutive sounding data units via the forward link. Each consecutive sounding data unit is transmitted via a different subset of antennas. The method also includes receiving, at the first communication device, CSI corresponding to the forward link that was generated at the second communication device and based on the consecutive sounding data units transmitted to the second communication device. The method also includes determining, at the first communication device, a subset of antennas to use in receiving data units via the reverse link. The subset of antennas to use in receiving data units via the reverse link is determined based on the CSI corresponding to the forward link.

  • Patent number: 8774301
Abstract: Systems and methods for detecting data in a multiple input/multiple output signal. The method includes receiving a first signal associated with a first data value and a second signal associated with a second data value. A distance value between the received second signal and each possible second data value is calculated. Coordinates for a hypothetical first signal in light of a first possible second data value are calculated, and the first coordinate value is quantized to a nearest constellation point. A distance value between the received second signal and each possible second data value is calculated using the calculated constellation points. A determination is made of a log-likelihood ratio based on the determined distance values.

  • Patent number: 8774725
Abstract: A transmitter beamforming technique for use in a MIMO wireless communication system determines a calibration factor and then applies the calibration factor to a transmit beamforming steering matrix developed using implicit beamforming. The beamforming technique first determines descriptions of both the forward and reverse channels, determines an estimate of the forward channel from the description of the reverse channel, determines right singular matrixes which model the forward channel and the estimated forward channel and then develops a calibration factor from the determined right singular matrixes. The beamforming technique then applies the determined calibration factor to a steering matrix which is calculated using an implicit beamforming technique.

  • Publication number: 20140186812
Abstract: Systems and methods for secured computer based assessment are described. In one embodiment, the method comprises capturing of proctoring data at a candidate assessment device from a candidate at predefined time intervals during an examination. The proctoring data includes biometric data, still image, and surround sound associated with the at least one candidate. The proctoring data captured at the candidate assessment device is then transmitted to a central assessment server connected to the candidate assessment device. At the central assessment server, the proctoring data is compared with registration data, of the candidate, stored in the central assessment server. Based on the comparison, malpractice by the candidate during the examination is determined when the proctoring data deviates from the registration data.

  • Patent number: 8767863
Abstract: A transceiver utilizes a spatial spreading matrix to distribute two or more encoded spatial data streams to multiple antennas. The spatial spreading matrix satisfies one or more of the following two constraints: (a) the ratio of squared norms of the sum of the components of a row, for different rows of the spatial spreading matrix, is equal to a first constant sequence, and (b) the ratio of squared norms of the sum of a symbol Sl to be transmitted, when the symbol Sl is equal to 1 or ?1, multiplied by each of the components of a row, for different rows of the spatial spreading matrix, is equal to a second constant sequence.

  • Patent number: 8767720
Abstract: A networking device includes a hardware port coupled to a first device and a management module. The management module identifies fabric subsets such that devices included in a fabric subset are permitted to communicate with each other, identifies configurations that include subsets that are active when the configuration is active, and detects that a device is uncoupled from the port. In response to detecting, the management module modifies the subsets by creating a new subset that does not include the uncoupled device, and modifies the configurations.
