  • Patent number: 4858182
Abstract: A reset circuit for a CMOS memory array is disclosed wherein the voltage supply for the standard six transistor memory cell is replaced by a pair of parallel connected transistors disposed between a fixed voltage source and the memory cell. The transistors are controlled by the reset signal and are complementary in that one is n-channel and the other is p-channel. The n-channel transistor is sized to prevent excess current flow to the memory cells to prevent an excessive charge build up therein for a logical "1" representation. In addition, the n-channel transistor provides a Vtn drop thereacross to prevent current flow in the memory cells during reset.

  • Patent number: 4857297
Abstract: H.sub.2 S is directly oxidized to elemental sulfur by contacting an H.sub.2 S containing gas stream having a water content less than 10% by volume with air or oxygen over a catalyst containing at least 80 wt % titanium dioxide. Most of the H.sub.2 S in the gas is oxidized to elemental sulfur. The process is especially useful for recovery of additional sulfur from effluent gas from a Claus unit.

  • Patent number: 4854793
Abstract: A cone expansion wall plug is provided comprising a threaded rod, an expansible socket, an expansion cone, an intermediate ring and a spacer between the head of the rod and said intermediate ring. During expansion and anchorage of the socket by the cone, the ring and the spacer prevent movement of the socket with respect to the rod. After anchorage, the rod may be screwed into the cone by shearing a collar of the spacer. During expansion, the socket only bears against the intermediate ring through a radial shoulder.

  • Patent number: 4852491
Abstract: A device the for in-register transfer of sheets and for the conveyance thereof between the printing units of a multi-color press by means of gripper carriages that move on rails and which are driven by an endless chain and which are aligned on the delivery and feed cylinders by rotating drive forks and that cooperate with a cam roller carried by the carriage. For joint axial and radial alignment with quiet entry the drive fork has leading and trailing flanks of different thicknesses and the flanks are guided into engagement with the cam roller by hardened guide plates in the gripper carriage. The leading flank is undersized and the second flank has the dimension necessary for establishing proper registration of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4852436
Abstract: Apparatus and method is disclosed for forming an elliptical surface in a mirror 10. The mirror blank is rotated about a given axis and the cutting tool tip 24 is pivoted about an axis C which is generally perpendicular to and spaced from the workpiece axis 16. As the cutting tip 24 moves in an arcuate path about point C the instantaneous radius R between the cutting tip and the C axis is adjusted by way of a linkage 34 which translates movement generated by a cam surface 36 and follower arm 32 into horizontal movement of the tool cutting tip 24.

  • Patent number: 4852349
Abstract: An arrangement for removing soot particles from the exhaust stream of a diesel internal combustion engine in such a manner that the soot particles are caught between conductor elements disposed at different potential, produce a short circuit and thereby burn off. In order to be able to realize a purification of the exhaust gas stream without a significant increase of the exhaust gas counterpressure, a centrifugal separator is connected to the exhaust gas line, which passes over into a soot particle collecting chamber constructed axially symmetrical to the longitudinal axis thereof; a predetermined number of electrodes is arranged in turn in the soot particle collecting chamber at a slight distance to the casing interior surface whereby the electrodes among one another or the electrodes and the soot particle collecting chamber itself are at a different potential.

  • Patent number: 4852550
Abstract: An insertion assembly is provided for controlling insertion of an instrument assembly into an endoscope shaft. Instrument locking elements are provided having a first position preventing movement of the instrument assembly relative to the shaft and having a second position allowing movement of the instrument assembly relative to the shaft. Actuator locking elements are provided having a first position allowing bending of the instrument assembly and having a second position preventing bending of the instrument assembly. Movement of the instrument locking elements into the first position moves the actuator locking elements into the first position. • Patent number: 4852488
Abstract: A sheet transfer drum for a recto and verso printing press having a two-piece section device, each piece being mounted on a diagonal slide, the slides being angled in opposite directions, so that the two pieces hold the two corners of the trailing edge of the sheet and stretch the corners in opposite axial directions as well as the circumferential direction of the sheet transfer drum. The stretching of the sheet is synchronized to the rotation of the transfer drum and effected by a control cam cooperating with a cam fixed to the printing press frame. The suction of the suction device is synchronized to rotation of the transfer drum by a commuting air connection between the suction device and a source of suction external to the press frame. The suction device is also adjustably mounted to the shaft of the transfer drum so that sheets of various length may be stretched.

  • Patent number: 4851737
Abstract: A cathode ray tube (3) (CRT) has a deflecting coil (1) surrounded by a funnel-like casing (4) of magnetic material. The deflecting coil generates a magnetic deflecting field (B) for the electron beam and a magnetic leakage field (BL) in the CRT environment. The leakage field is composed of a dipole field and a quadrupole field. To reduce the magnetic field strength in the CRT environment a magnetic compensation field which is counterdirected to the leakage field is generated. The compensation field is composed of a dipole field which is generated by a first compensation loop (7) and a quadrupole field which is generated by a second compensation loop (9). The first compensation loop (7) is substantially flat and at right angles to the magnetic deflecting field (B). The second compensation loop (9) is flat and at right angles to the longitudinal symmetrical axis (z) of the CRT and has an upper (9a) and a lower (9b) part which generate two mutually opposing dipole fields (DK2,DK3).

  • Patent number: 4851203
Abstract: Metal carbide and metal nitride powders produced by the carbothermal reduction of one or more metal oxides reacted with a binder material and a carbonaceous additive or optionally, a binder capable of supplying carbon to the reaction. The metal oxides are selected from among SiO.sub.2, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3, TiO.sub.2, ZrO.sub.2, HfO.sub.2 and B.sub.2 O.sub.3 and are combined with the binder in the presence of carbon to form granules having a controlled pore volume. The granules are then subjected to a carbothermal reduction reaction, in the presence of a nitrogen or a neutral atmosphere, to produce metal nitrides or metal carbides respectively, having an excess of carbon incorporated therein. The product is subsequently heated to react the excess carbon within the compound with oxygen from the atmosphere to form carbon monoxide gas, which may be removed by an optional exhaust system.

  • Patent number: 4851016
Abstract: The device directs a stream of air onto the top surface of a supply of water contained in a tank. The air is directed onto the water by a diffuser so as to create a turbulence on the surface of the water. The diffuser comprises a plenum which hovers over the water surface as a result of the air flow therethrough. The plenum is formed with a buoyant skirt which allows the plenum to float in the water when there is no air flowing through the plenum. The air leaving the water tank is thus moisturized. The device can be used to remove fibrous contaminants such as asbestos from the air, or can be used as an air humidifier, or the like.
