  • Patent number: 6284096
Abstract: A hydrocyclone and a process for discharging impurities from a suspension containing paper fibers using a hydrocyclone having a radially inner area. The hydrocyclone includes an inflow for introducing the suspension to be purified, an accepted stock outflow for discharging the purified suspension, a separating part, a reject discharge device for discharging impurities of the suspension, at least one element for adding a diluting liquid at an addition point which is located in a radially inner area of the hydrocyclone, wherein the at least one element has at least one aperture opening axially and opposite to a discharge direction of the impurities. The process includes adding a diluting liquid into the suspension in the radially inner area of the hydrocyclone, wherein the diluting liquid is added in a flow direction opposite to an axial discharge direction of the impurities.

  • Patent number: 5975182
Abstract: An apparatus for the processing of folded printed sheets is provided with at least one work station located next to a conveying path, with the work station preferably being a feeder for separating and opening the printed sheets. A plurality of support means is arranged sequentially on conveying means configured as a continuous loop, with the printed sheets in the region of the fold slidingly supportable on a respective support edge of the respective support means. The support means are spaced apart and sequentially guided past the work station and are inclined with respect to the conveying direction of the conveying means at least in the region of a work station.

  • Patent number: 5900289
Abstract: A method of producing a thin coating by plasma-assisted chemical vapor phase deposition from a carbonaceous and metalliferous gas phase of a predetermined composition on a substrate surface especially in the form of a diamond-like carbon-silicon-hydrogen compound, wherein for the coloration the optical thickness of the coating or of one layer region or of a plurality of layer regions of the coating each, is predetermined in one single vacuum coating process in that due to interferences of the first order and/or of a higher order the desired color impression results at the coating or at its layer region(s) according to the principle of interference at thin films, and in the portion of the coating adjacent to the substrate surface first of all a non-colorating layer region, providing hardness and wear resistance of the complete coating, is produced with a larger thickness in relation to the colorating region or regions, wherein preferably shortly before achieving the total thickness of the coating the compositi

  • Patent number: 5599507
Abstract: A polycondensation reactor for processing low viscosity polyester or another polymer into relatively highly viscosity polymer comprises a substantially cylindrical horizontal reactor vessel with a polymer inlet and a polymer outlet adjacent its opposite ends and a vapor exhaust opening in the upper side of the vessel at its outlet end. A polymer agitator is rotated axially within the chamber and includes plural alternating annular overflow and underflow baffles and multiple perforated film-forming screens disposed therebetween in parallel spaced relation to one another. The overflow baffles are in peripheral polymer-sealing relation to the vessel while the underflow baffles have multiple underflow recesses in their outer peripheries, whereby the baffles define a tortuous polymer flow path alternately through their respective polymer overflow and underflow openings to control residence time, distribution and viscosity growth as the polymer flows between the baffles.

  • Patent number: 5260821
Abstract: An electrochromic system. It comprises layers of solid/materials deposited on glass or another substrate. The solids function in an atmosphere that can be dry. One layer is preferably Li.sub.3 AlF.sub.6 and conducts positive lithium ions. Another layer is a counterelectrode. The counterelectrode is improved to the extent that it can reversibly accept ions from and donate them to the ion conductor while remaining extensively transparent. The counterelectrode can be Li.sub.x TiO.sub.y, (Li.sub.2 O).sub.m (WO.sub.3).sub.n (Sb.sub.2 O.sub.3), or (Li.sub.2 O).sub.m (WO.sub.3).sub.n (CeO.sub.2).sub.o.

  • Patent number: 4640203
Abstract: A method and apparatus for burning combustible waste materials such as municipal and other refuse, utilizing combustion of the waste materials in a rotary tubular kiln at temperatures above 1200.degree. C., using combustion air in the temperature range between 300.degree. and 800.degree. C. with a small air excess and a reduced quantity of flue gas. The invention further includes heat transfer from the hot flue gas into the combustion air by means of a heat exchanging solid, whereby the solid is heated in contact with the flue gas and subsequently is cooled in contact with air. This air is heated to combustion air temperature and is conducted to the firing of the rotary kiln. The solid may also simultaneously bond noxious substances in the flue gas.

  • Patent number: 4544441
Abstract: A bolometric radiation detector wherein the electrically-conductive measuring layer is applied to a carrier film which is supported by a frame. To produce a bolometer of this type the carrier film is produced as a layer on a base material, preferably by anodic or thermal oxidation of the base material. The measuring layer is applied to the carrier film. After providing the base material and the measuring layer with a photoresist layer, the conductors are etched out and a window is made from the reverse side. The carrier film with the measuring layer structure then remains. The parts of the base material that have not been removed serve as a frame for the carrier film.
