  • Patent number: 7991627
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method of pre-delivery drug identification. The system and method is implemented where drugs are being administered, such as in a hospital or clinic, and identifies the drug being administered to the patient before the drug reaches the patient. The system and method may utilize a sensor used for other physiologic monitoring to identify the drug. After identification, the system and method is configured to cross-reference the identified drug with the patient's prescription and allergy information, and to prevent delivery to the patient, if necessary. The system and method also utilizes data collected from the patient with a physiological monitor or a ventilator sensor to further determine whether the drug is appropriate for the patient. The method and system may also include an override system for medical personnel. The method described may be carried out by a software application.

  • Patent number: 7948888
Abstract: A network device including at least one rate-limited-queue and multiple timer modules, the network device being operable to receive and/or transmit data flows from and/or to a communication network. Each data flow includes multiple data packets. The network device being further operable to limit the predetermined transmission rate of the respective data flow dependent on whether a data congestion in the communication network has been indicated, in such a way, that in case of an indicated congested communication network a respective timer module is associated to each of the data flows and/or each group of data flows, whereas the data packets of the respective data flows and/or group of data flows are buffered in the rate-limited-queue. Each data packet in the rate-limited-queue is transmitted with a limited transmission rate predetermined by the respectively associated timer module when the data packet is at the head of the rate-limited-queue.

  • Patent number: 7849273
Abstract: Techniques for time-dependent storage management with a portable application programming interface are disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the techniques may be realized as a method for time-dependent storage management. The method may comprise interfacing with a host and a storage system having one or more storage devices. The method may also comprise intercepting all write commands that the host issues to the storage system. The method may additionally comprise performing a copy-on-write operation for each intercepted write command, wherein copy-on-write data and metadata associated with each intercepted write command are recorded, the metadata including at least a timestamp associated with each intercepted write command.

  • Patent number: 7801740
Abstract: A method is described which simplifies, automates and organizes the creation of notes and correspondence and also, by performing the calculations needed to determine the appropriate billing codes, provides documentation for billing purposes. It also assists the health care worker in determining the proper billing code. An embodiment of this to facilitate the creation of documents in the setting of patient care is described. The use of this for medical records is particularly of importance because of recent government (Heath Care and Finance Administration, or HCFA) regulations. The embodiment also allows one to enter information into a patient database at the same time that one is entering clinical information for the purposes of clinical care documentation. The database could be for clinical care, quality assurance, or research purposes. The embodiment describes how this can be achieved at the time that a service is delivered, for example when a health care worker sees a patient.

  • Patent number: 7727111
Abstract: A vehicle driveline control system includes monitoring when the transmission is in gear and the clutch is left open. If that condition exists for a selected amount of time, the controller provides an indication to the driver regarding the open clutch status. In one example, the controller alters the RPM rate of the engine to provide audible feedback to the driver. For example, the controller raises the engine RPM rate from an idle rate to a higher rate to simulate what the driver hears upon vehicle launch. A variety of indicators and control strategies may be used with a system designed according to this invention.

  • Publication number: 20100075277
Abstract: Implant structure consisting of an implant and an attachment. The attachment is provided with a first coupling part for connection to the implant and provided with a second coupling part for connection to a prosthesis. The second coupling part may include a ball, cone, polygon or cylinder or the like. It is proposed, according to the invention, to construct the attachment from two connectable attachment parts. In this manner, it is possible to achieve an angled attachment which ensures good accessibility to the connecting screw of the first coupling part without special openings having to be provided in the attachment. In addition, the angle between the two attachment parts can readily be changed to suit requirements by varying only one of the attachment parts. After fitting, a structure with a smooth wall is produced.

  • Patent number: RE40867
Abstract: A touchpad is formed of an electrically insulating membrane (10) with a first series of spaced apart conductors (12) on a first face of membrane (10) and a second series of spaced apart conductors (14) on or proximal thereto, in which there is no electrical contact between the first and second series of conductors (12, 14) Each conductor in the first and second series of conductors is sensitive to the proximity of a finger to modify the capacitance of the proximate conductor to detect the presence of the finger positioned close to that conductor. A scanning system operative to sample one of the conductors in turn from both the first and second series of conductors (12, 14) in order to measure and store a capacitance value associated with that respective conductor. The scanning system is operative to maintain all conductors (12-n, 14-n) at a common potential equal to the potential of the conductor being sampled when the remaining conductors are not actively being sampled by the scanning system.
