  • Patent number: 8188945
Abstract: Semiconductor elements deteriorate or are destroyed due to electrostatic discharge damage. The present invention provides a semiconductor device in which a protecting means is formed in each pixel. The protecting means is provided with one or a plurality of elements selected from the group consisting of resistor elements, capacitor elements, and rectifying elements. Sudden changes in the electric potential of a source electrode or a drain electrode of a transistor due to electric charge that builds up in a pixel electrode is relieved by disposing the protecting means between the pixel electrode of the light-emitting element and the source electrode or the drain electrode of the transistor. Deterioration or destruction of the semiconductor element due to electrostatic discharge damage is thus prevented.

  • Patent number: 8179040
Abstract: In order to provide a display device of high reliability in which an amount of moisture and oxygen, which are a factor for deteriorating a characteristics of a display device, entering from a sealing agent is reduced and its manufacturing method, the present invention has a sealing film. Accordingly, an interlayer insulating film including an organic material of the display device (panel) is no longer exposed to the atmosphere outside of the display device. Therefore, it becomes possible to prevent moisture and oxygen outside of the display device from entering inside of the display device through an insulating film and the like including a hygroscopic organic material. In addition, various degradations such as contamination of an inner part of the display device caused by moisture, oxygen and the like, the degradation of electric properties, a dark spot and shrink can be prevented, thus enhancing reliability of the display device.

  • Publication number: 20120056862
Abstract: To provide a display device whose display can be recognized even in dark places or under the strong outside light. The display device performs display by controlling the number of gray scales in accordance with the intensity of outside light, which means a display mode can be switched in accordance with the data to be displayed on the display screen. A video signal generation circuit is controlled in each display mode in such a manner that it directly outputs an input video signal with an analog value, outputs a signal with a binary digital value, or outputs a signal with a multivalued digital value. As a result, gray scales displayed in pixels are timely changed. Accordingly, clear images can be displayed while maintaining high visibility in various environments, in the wide range from, for example, dark places or indoors (e.g., under a fluorescent lighting) to outdoors (e.g., under the sunlight).

  • Publication number: 20120037932
Abstract: A problem in that a light emitting element slightly emits light is solved by an off current of a thin film transistor connected in series to the light emitting element, thereby a display device which can perform a clear display by increasing contrast, and a driving method thereof are provided. When the thin film transistor connected in series to the light emitting element is turned off, a charge held in the capacitance of the light emitting element itself is discharged. Even when an off current is generated at the thin film transistor connected in series to the light emitting element, this off current charges this capacitance until the capacitance of the light emitting element itself holds a predetermined voltage again. Accordingly, the off current of the thin film transistor does not contribute to light emission. In this manner, a slight light emission of the light emitting element can be reduced.

  • Publication number: 20110122121
Abstract: The present invention provides a semiconductor device in which a power line is not affected by noise due to a voltage drop caused by instantaneous high-current consumption in the buffer portion and that has no possibility that a logic portion malfunctions. In a case where the same potential is supplied to a logic portion and a buffer portion, by a method in which separate FPC terminals are used for the logic portion and the buffer portion, or by a method in which the FPC terminal is shared but a power line is branched for the logic portion and the buffer portion at a point close to the FPC terminal, a problem that the logic portion is affected by noise generated by a voltage drop of the power line due to instantaneous high-current consumption in the buffer portion can be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20110057925
Abstract: According to a driving method of applying a reverse bias voltage, capacitance occurs due to a stacked structure of a conductor, an insulator and a conductor, or due to a structure of a TFT. This capacitance prevents normal operation. The invention provides a pixel configuration including at least a driving transistor for driving a light emitting element and a switching transistor for controlling the driving transistor, wherein the switching transistor is turned on in the case of applying a forward bias voltage after applying a reverse bias voltage. As a result, it is prevented that the potential changes due to unwanted capacitive coupling.

  • Patent number: 7742024
Abstract: No need of lowering off-current of a switching transistor, fewer luminance variations of a light emitting element between pixels due to characteristic variations of a driving transistor, and less risk of steps due to increase in the number of wirings. A video signal for light emission or non-emission of a pixel is input to a gate of a current controlling transistor operated in a linear region, which is connected in series with the driving transistor, through a switching transistor. Since a voltage Vds between a source and a drain of the current controlling transistor is small, small changes in a voltage Vgs between a gate and a source thereof do not affect a current flowing in a load. The current flowing in the light emitting element is determined by the driving transistor operated in a saturation region, and a fixed potential is input to the gate thereof during light emission.

  • Patent number: 7724247
Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a display device of which the display is visible in a dark place or under strong external light. The present invention is a display device which performs display, changing the grayscale number corresponding to the external light strength, and a display device which can switch the display mode corresponding to contents displayed on the screen. The display contents include a text display mode displaying mainly characters and symbols, a picture display mode displaying images with a small number of colors such as a comic, a video mode displaying natural images with a large number of colors such as a photograph and a moving image, and the like. By switching the grayscale number arbitrarily according to these display modes, visibility can be ensured in a wide range from a dark place or under an indoor fluorescent light to under outdoor sunlight.
