Abstract: A method is disclosed for protecting a network against a denial-of-service attack by inspecting application layer messages at a network element. According to one aspect, when a network element intercepts data packets that contain an application layer message, the network element constructs the message from the payload portions of the packets. The network element determines whether the message satisfies specified criteria. The criteria may indicate characteristics of messages that are suspected to be involved in a denial-of-service attack, for example. If the message satisfies the specified criteria, then the network element prevents the data packets that contain the message from being received by the application for which the message was intended. The network element may accomplish this by dropping the packets, for example. As a result, the application's host does not waste processing resources on messages whose only purpose might be to deluge and overwhelm the application.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for intelligent caching is provided. A thin layer of business logic on a web server receives URL requests sent to the web server from clients and resolves the URLs into URLs corresponding to component parts of the requested document according to the rules of a rule set. Thus only the component resources of a composite document are cached in the web server's caching layer. The rule set defines a format for the requests sent to the web server, the manner in which properly formatted requests should be resolved, and the manner in which the component resources should be assembled into the composite document.

Abstract: A device and method for a full-duplex transceiver is disclosed. The transceiver includes a transmitter DAC coupled to a transmission channel. The transmit DAC converting a digital transmission signal into an analog transmission signal. The transceiver further includes a receiver connected to the transmission channel. The receiver receives a desired signal and an echo signal, in which the echo signal includes at least a portion of the analog transmission signal. The receiver includes a receiver ADC, a programmable delay line for adjustably delaying a clock signal of the ADC, and a receiver processing circuit for adjusting the delay of the clock signal based at least in part upon the echo signal.

Abstract: A method for testing skew in a printer includes receiving at a printer a request to print a test page, and in response to the request, printing a test page. The test page includes (a) a first symbol defining a first symbol boundary and (b) a second symbol sized smaller than the first symbol boundary such that the second symbol fits inside the first symbol boundary when the test page is folded. The relationship between the size of the first symbol boundary and the size of the second symbol corresponds to a predetermined acceptable amount of skew in the alignment of the first and second symbols on the test page.

Abstract: A network device for processing a packet can have at least one port within the network device configured to received or transmit a packet, and a storage unit configured to store a port bit map, wherein the port bit map corresponds to the at least one port. Furthermore, the network device for processing a packet can have a rules table configured to have at least one port match entry and at least one action corresponding to the at least one port match entry therein, and a control unit configured to compare the port bit map with the at least one port match entry, and to implement the at least one action when a first positive value results from comparing the port bit map with the port match entry.

Abstract: Aspects of the subject matter described herein relate to backup up data. In aspects, a backup target determines a degree to which a data set included on the backup target is not backed up on a backup facility. The degree can represent more than just that the data set is completely backed up or is not backed up at all. If the degree satisfies a condition, the backup target utilizes information derived from a backup history of one or more attempted or successfully completed backup sessions between the backup target and the backup facility to determine whether to provide a notification regarding backup state. The backup target also may send the degree and other backup information to a backup facility which may use this information in determining a backup scheme to employ with the backup target.

Abstract: A mono optimized color laser printer. The mono optimized color laser printer includes a provision in which mono toner cartridges may be inserted at each of four toner locations. The mono optimized color laser printer includes a mono optimization module which detects when mono toner cartridges are inserted into the four toner locations and controls printing so that each of the mono toner cartridges prints on about a quarter of a page. Such a mono optimized color laser printer reduces a time taken to transfer toner to the page to about a quarter that of a traditional color printer. Such a printer results in about a four times increase in printing speed for a mono print operation.

Abstract: A programmable energy efficient codec system is provided for encoding and decoding a plurality of application environments. A camera Codec and control system for an HD camera is provided for encoding uncompressed HD-SDI video signals into an MPEG-2 transport stream. A stand-alone encoder decoder system is provided in a network configuration allowing for remote display and editing of HD-SDI video. At least one plurality of HD-SDI transport streams is generated from HD-Cameras encoded into MPEG-2 transport streams and output into a DVD-ASI signal and a TS/IP packet stream further provided is a decoder which accepts MPEG-2-TS/IP packet streams from a routed IP network which are decoded into an uncompressed HD-SDI transport stream for display. A set top box is provided for decoding audio and video HD-TV. A first HDMI interface into the decoder allows acceptance of an MPEG-2-TS from local storage media. Connection to an IP routed network is provided.

Abstract: A codec system is provided which includes encoding and decoding functions in a plurality of application environments. The codec subsystem encodes raw uncompressed HD-SDI video signals from a camera's optical subsystem into an MPEG-2 transport stream which is stored in onboard media. The subsystem may be programmed to encode or decode a plurality of video and audio formats as required by multiple HD-camera manufactures. A stand alone encoder decoder system is also provided in a network configuration for a studio production system. A programmable set of hardware including BSP, HD-SDI, SD-SDI, multiplexer/demultiplexer and MPEG-2 transport streams are provided. An intelligent power consumption management system is also provided.

Abstract: In a projector image printing system, a projector receives an image, projects the image from the projector, and communicates the image from the projector to a printer. In an embodiment, a projector includes a graphics connectivity to receive an image from an information handling system (IHS), a projection system to project the image away from the projector, a graphics capture system to capture the image as a data file, and a communication system to communicate the data file to a printer. In another embodiment, a method to print an image from a projector includes receiving a print instruction from a user, converting a projected screen by the projector to an image, and sending the image to a printer.

Abstract: A printing device includes a used media holder. A scan module is operable to receive a piece of used media from the used media holder and determine whether the piece of used media includes a printable side. A print module is operable to receive the piece of used media from the scan module and, in response to the scan module determining that the piece of used media comprises a printable side, the print module is operable to print on the printable side.

Abstract: A multi-plan generation system generates a multi-plan for a multi-layer storage area network. The system generates a predetermined number of plans while generating and retaining globally optimum plans. The system dynamically calculates and orders these plans according to optimization criteria and user requirements. The system comprises a planner for each of the layers in a storage area network such as a host planner, a storage planner, a network planner, a zone planner, etc. Each of the planners applies a variance optimization, a preview optimization, and a detail optimization and interacts with a policy repository to obtain policy guidance, enabling the system to prune the set of plans. A control module invokes the planners in a predetermined order.

Abstract: Data collection agents are assigned to storage area network nodes in a storage area network resource management system, such that the bandwidth and cost of data collection are equitably distributed among data collection agents. Data collection overlaps and load imbalances are eliminated across the data collection agents, creating approximately equal partitions of bandwidth and data collection for each data collection agent. Graph partitioning is used to accomplish load balancing. The assignment of data collection agents to storage area network nodes equitably distributes the bandwidth and processing costs among the data collection agents and ensures a load balance.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining the volume of imaging medium in a cartridge are disclosed. An imaging medium may include a movable housing portion and a device coupled to the movable housing portion. The movable housing portion may include a volume of imaging medium and may be configured to move in response to changes in the volume of imaging medium in the movable housing portion. The device may be configured to project a beam of electromagnetic energy onto a location of a beam-receiving photodetector, the beam-receiving location moving in response to movement of the movable housing portion such that the beam-receiving location is based at least on the volume of imaging medium on the movable housing portion.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for performing security functions on a message payload in a network element. According to one aspect, a network element receives one or more data packets. The network element performs a security function on at least a portion of an application layer message that is contained in one or more payload portions of the one or more data packets. According to another aspect, a network element receives a first request that is destined for a first application. The network element sends, to a second application that sent the first request, a second request for authentication information. The network element receives the authentication information and determines whether the authentication information is valid. If the authentication information is not valid, then the network element prevents the first request from being sent to the first application.

Abstract: An device and method for a pre-sampling processing is disclosed. The pre-sampling device includes a single amplifier having a virtual ground node, and a feed back circuit connected from an output of the amplifier to the virtual ground node. The feed back circuit includes a plurality of switches connected to the virtual ground node. The switches control a plurality of programmable gain settings. The feed back circuit also includes an adjustable current source that is adjusted according to an estimated echo signal. A current of the adjustable current source is summed at the virtual ground node. The feed back circuit also includes a low pass filter that is tuned to suppress received signal frequencies above a fraction of a sampling frequency of a sampler connected to the pre-sampling device.
