  • Publication number: 20170280550
Abstract: In an optical communications system, the thermal pathway for dissipating heat generated by clock and data recovery (CDR) circuitry of an optical communications module is a separate from the thermal pathway that is used to dissipate heat generated by other components of the module. The CDR circuitry is external to the module and is provided with its own heat dissipation device. Keeping the CDR circuitry external to the module and providing it with its own heat dissipation device decouples the thermal pathway for dissipating heat generated by the CDR circuitry from the thermal pathways used for dissipating heat generated by other components of the module. This results in more effective heat dissipation and better component performance.

  • Patent number: 9749821
Abstract: Sending short message service (SMS) messages and receiving a response report based at least in part on the sent SMS message, even if a communicative connection with the mobile communications network had been severed, so that duplication of the SMS message is avoided is disclosed. In this case, a communicative connection may be re-established and used to receive an acknowledgment from the mobile communications network and subsequently send another acknowledgement to the mobile communications network. The UE may also be configured to send an information element to the one or more elements of the mobile communications network to indicate that a communicative connection with the network is to remain established so that acknowledgements may be reconciled between the UE and the network. Additionally, the mobile communications network may be configured to transmit the SMS message only after receiving the acknowledgement from the UE, to avoid sending duplicate SMS messages.

  • Patent number: 9706373
Abstract: Receiving short message service (SMS) messages and providing a response report based at least in part on the received SMS message is disclosed. A user equipment (UE) may receive an SMS message via a communications link between the UE and a mobile communications network. The UE may be configured to determine if the SMS message was received with or without error. Based at least in part on this determination, the UE may generate the response report to provide to the mobile communications network. The UE may further identify that the communications link between itself and the mobile communications network may be severed. As a result, the UE may reestablish the communications link with the mobile communications network and then transmit the response report.

  • Patent number: 9609626
Abstract: Systems and methods for routing pages to cellular phones (UE) not connected to a cellular network, but connected to a wireless local area network (I-WLAN), are disclosed. The system can route cellular pages to disconnected cellular devices using 3GPP AAA components, such as a Third Generation Partnership Project authentication, authorization, and accounting (3GPP AAA) server. The system can route pages via a home location register (HLR) connected to the I-WLAN or a mobile switching center (MSC) connected to the I-WLAN. The system can determine an appropriate MSC based on proximity of the MSC to the last known location of the UE, for example, or based on the MSC with the lowest utilization rates. The system can send a page to the UE via the I-WLAN instructing the UE to reconnect to the cellular network. The system can then send cellular data to the UE using the cellular network.

  • Publication number: 20170059799
Abstract: An optical communications module includes an upper housing portion mated to a lower housing portion, with one or more optical ports located inside the mated assembly. The one or more optical ports are accessible via respective openings in a front portion of the optical communications module. The lower housing portion accommodates an electronic circuit assembly that can lead to emission of electromagnetic interference (EMI) through the front portion of the optical communications module and particularly through the plastic walls of each optical port. Various exemplary embodiments of an electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield in accordance with the disclosure can be embedded inside the front plastic wall of each optical port in order to provide EMI shielding.

  • Patent number: 9467845
Abstract: Approaches enable a device, such as a cellular-enabled device, to receive cellular system information from another device in response to a request by the cellular-enabled device, and then to select a cellular network connection to which the cellular-enabled device can connect based on the cellular system information. The cellular-enabled device may determine the availability of the cellular system information in a number of ways, such as by detecting a Bluetooth broadcast from another device and initiating a paired connection between the two devices. Once the paired connection is established, the cellular-enabled device may make a service discovery request to learn that the other device is capable of broadcasting the cellular system information over the connection between the devices.

  • Patent number: 8876413
Abstract: An optical communications module is provided with an EMI shielding system that comprises a resistive coating disposed on one or more inner surfaces of the module housing. The resistive coating has a thickness that is greater than or equal to one skin depth and has a resistivity that is low enough to support electrical current flow, but high enough to absorb EMI radiation of a particular wavelength or wavelength range. The combination of these features causes EMI radiation to propagate in the resistive coating due to skin effect. The resistive coating absorbs at least a portion of the EMI radiation propagating therein.

  • Publication number: 20140122161
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for performing workflow-based project management. An embodiment can receive a scope tree and a sequence of steps, stages, and/or phases that one or more items in the scope tree go through. The embodiment can then generate a set of subprojects, streams, and/or tasks based on the received scope tree and the sequence of steps, stages, and/or phases. Note that each subproject, stream, or task is associated with an item in the scope tree and an item in the sequence of steps, stages, and/or phases. Next, the embodiment can generate a set of interdependencies between the set of subprojects, streams, and/or tasks based on the scope tree and the sequence of steps, stages, and/or phases. The embodiment can then create the project plan that includes the set of subprojects, streams, and/or tasks and the set of interdependencies between the set of subprojects, streams, and/or tasks.

  • Patent number: 8612435
Abstract: A method and apparatus for activity-based users' interests modeling for determining relevance of the content distributed to the users is provided. Modeling of the user's interests starts by collecting information about the actions that the user performed and about the contents that were associated with the actions. That information may be used to determine how much interest the user has had in the individual subjects up to date, and to determine which subjects became more or less important to the user over time. Further processing of the information about the interests of each of the individual users in a group of users may produce characteristics indicating the interests of the group as a whole. Additional processing may generate the information reflecting relative importance of the interests of an individual user in the group to the interests of other users in the same group.
