  • Patent number: 9930147
Abstract: An 802.11ac access point (AP) may be capable of communicating with both 802.11n (on 40 MHz band) and 802.11ac devices (on 80 MHz band). While the 802.11ac AP is communicated with 802.11n devices on 40 MHz band, the remaining 40 MHz band is wasted because the 802.11n devices are not capable of communicating on this band. The AP may operate as if it is two virtual APs, one capable of communicating with 802.11n devices on a first primary and a first secondary channels (basic service set 1—BSS1) and the second communicating with 802.11ac devices on a second primary and a second secondary channels (BSS2). Individual beacons may be sent for BSS1 and BSS2. The transmissions on BSS2 may be performed simultaneously with transmissions on BSS1. However, transmission on one channel and receiving on the second channel cannot happen simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 9929847
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide methods and apparatus for using a shortened block acknowledgement (BlockAck) frame capable of acknowledging fragments. Such a shortened BlockAck frame may include a bitmap field having a shorter length than that of a basic BlockAck frame in the IEEE 802.11 standard (i.e., <128 octets). One example method for wireless communications generally includes receiving a plurality of protocol data units (PDUs) (e.g., media access control (MAC) protocol data units (MPDUs)); determining whether each of the PDUs was successfully received and whether each of the PDUs is associated with a non-fragmented service data unit (SDU) (e.g., MAC service data unit (MSDU)) or a fragmented SDU; and outputting for transmission a shortened BlockAck frame comprising a bitmap field indicating a receive status for the non-fragmented and fragmented SDUs based on the determination.

  • Publication number: 20180083824
Abstract: Techniques are described that provide nested constellations in which a lower order modulation scheme may be nested within constellation points of a higher-order modulation scheme. A higher-order modulation scheme, having a first constellation, may be used for a first subset of transmissions (e.g., data payload transmissions). A lower-order modulation scheme, having a second constellation, may be used for a second subset of transmissions (e.g., reference signal transmissions, embedded control transmissions, tapered payload transmissions, etc.). A subset of constellation points of the first constellation may be selected for transmitting the second subset of transmissions. A receiver may receive the transmissions and demodulate/decode the transmissions.

  • Patent number: 9924511
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for direct device-to-device (D2D) communications in a subframe on a channel in an unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band. A user equipment (UE) may perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure on the channel in the unlicensed radio frequency spectrum band. The UE may identify a time period between a completion of the LBT procedure and a boundary of a second subframe. The UE may transmit a Wi-Fi preamble and a variable length message on the channel during the identified timer period. The variable length message may include a duration that is time aligned with the boundary of the second subframe.

  • Publication number: 20180049027
Abstract: A method for wireless communication may include receiving a communication and determining an acknowledgement signature for an acknowledgment in response to the communication. The acknowledgment signature may allow for authentication with the transmitting wireless device. The acknowledgment signature may be based on a key shared with the wireless device. An acknowledgement frame (e.g., acknowledging reception of the communication) may then be sent to the transmitting wireless device. The content of the acknowledgement may be based on the acknowledgement signature. For example, the signature may be included in a frame control, duration, or address field. Determining the acknowledgement signature may include determining a unique signature based on information from the received communication (e.g., a cyclic redundancy check (CRC)), the shared key, and/or a hash function.

  • Publication number: 20180035309
Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for communicating data in a wireless communications network are described herein. In some aspects, a relay provides relay services for network communication between a first station and a second station. In one aspect, the relay may receive data packets sent to the second station by the first station, and retransmit the data packets if it determines that the second station has not acknowledged the data packet. In one other aspect, the first station may be configured to transmit a relay-able acknowledgement that includes a sequence number identifying data being acknowledged. The relay may be configured to receive a transmission of a first relay-able acknowledgement by the first station and retransmit a second relay-able acknowledgement if it determines the second station did not receive the first relay-able acknowledgement sent by the first station. In some aspects, the second station is an access point.

  • Patent number: 9883437
Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems and methods for an enhanced network handoff to wireless local area networks. A network element, referred to as a network handoff gateway (WHG), can be introduced between a wireless wide area network (WWAN) and a local wireless area network (WLAN). The WHG can maintain c links with both a set of WiFi™ or similar access points local to a wireless device, as well as a cellular network (or other WWAN) to which the device is registered. The wireless device can be tracked by the WHG using GPS or other data. The WHG can proactively acquire and pre-stage data needed to hand a data link of the wireless device off from the WWAN connection to the WiFi™ access points. The acquired data can include authentication information, IP address, or other information to facilitate a faster, more robust transition between the WWAN and WiFi™ or other WLAN connections.

  • Patent number: 9872232
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and devices are described for wireless communications in which neighborhood area network (NaN) information may be requested and provided in a relatively fast and efficient manner between devices of a NaN. A wireless communication device, such as a station in a wireless communications network, may transmit an active probe request to seek information related to a NaN. The active probe request may be a NaN specific probe request, or may be transmitted from a station as part of an active scan for wireless network infrastructure other than NaN devices (e.g., as part of a scan for an AP in a BSS). An AP or master device of the NaN may receive the probe request and generate a NaN discovery response, which may include information that the requesting device may use for connecting to a device in the NaN.
