  • Patent number: 9796371
Abstract: A passive vehicular heatstroke prevention system monitors carbon dioxide (CO2) and infrared (IR) energy levels to determine whether a child is present inside a closed vehicle, and, if so, monitors the temperature in the vehicle and, if the temperature in the vehicle exceeds at least one preset critical value, automatically lowers the temperature in the vehicle and contacts the driver/caregiver and/or emergency personnel. The system detects the presence of a child in the closed vehicle by detecting a critical level of carbon dioxide in the air within the vehicle, while monitoring the interior vehicle temperature and takes corrective action to prevent the temperature from exceeding a preset value, such as by activating the vehicle's air conditioning unit and lowering the vehicle's windows, as well as contacting the driver/caregiver and/or emergency personnel.

  • Patent number: 9789941
Abstract: The invention allows users to be totally submerged underwater with an adequate supply of air for extended periods of time without the use of regulators, pressure vessels, diaphragm pumps or compressors, internal combustion engines or external power sources. The apparatus includes a buoyant enclosure supporting a hollow air intake pipe with a sphere shaped screen mounted on the top. The bottom half of the screen has holes to allow air into an air intake tube and to drain water out. A low pressure blower and filter assembly with a rechargeable and easily replaceable lithium-ion battery are mounted inside the buoyant enclosure. Air is drawn into the low pressure blower suction and through an air filter delivering constant air flow to the individual through an attached flexible air supply hose. Three check valves constrain air flow supply unidirectional to the individual while venting excess air. A hand pump vacates water from the mouthpiece or mask and draws in purging air while the individual is submerged.

  • Publication number: 20170294418
Abstract: At least one array of LEDs (e.g., in a flip chip configuration) is supported by a substrate having a light extraction surface overlaid with at least one lumiphoric material. Light segregation elements registered with gaps between LEDs are configured to reduce interaction between emissions of different LEDs and/or lumiphoric material regions to reduce scattering and/or optical crosstalk, thereby preserving pixel-like resolution of the resulting emissions. Light segregation elements may be formed by mechanical sawing or etching to define grooves or recesses in a substrate, and filling the grooves or recesses with light-reflective or light-absorptive material. Light segregation elements external to a substrate may be defined by photolithographic patterning and etching of a sacrificial material, and/or by 3D printing.

  • Publication number: 20170278017
Abstract: An example system and method for managing behavior change applications for mobile users is disclosed. In an embodiment of the system and method, data on a plurality of users in a behavioral change program is received from a plurality of devices operating in a communications network. The data is used to determine plurality of user segments. Each user of the plurality of users is classified into a one of the plurality of user segments. Then a plurality of behavioral models is determined, where each of the plurality of behavioral models comprises a statistical model of relations between behaviors of users within a corresponding one of the plurality of user segments. An intervention model is then determined for a user, where the intervention model is based on a behavior model of the user segment to which the user belongs. Interventions are then sent to a device of the user according to the intervention model.

  • Patent number: 9765833
Abstract: A disc brake assembly includes a rotor with an ABS tone ring insert assembly that functions as a rotation indicator in an anti-lock braking system. The insert is positioned in the hat of a rotor disc in a spaced relationship and is mounted to the mounting flange of the rotor disc. Forming the ring insert separately from the rotor disc also allows different coating materials to be used on the tone ring that may be more heat resistant. The ring insert assembly can be made of powder metal or made as a cast iron cylinder with a toothed cap made of powder metal having a corrosion resistant coating. Cost savings can be realized along with high performance when only a portion of the assembly if made of powder metal and coated.

  • Publication number: 20170252200
Abstract: A knee brace of near universal application for any patient needing left or right knee stabilization, and/or suffering from arthritis, bone on bone contact, and/or narrowed joint spacing in either left or right knee. Brace is mountable on outside or inside of left or right knee. Brace includes a selectively activated force device for exerting pressure directly by pushing at a joint line of a knee or indirectly by pulling on a knee strap wrapped around knee and force device. A base, adjacent to the force device, at least partially resists pressure of force device, and is adjacent a flexor that allows knee flexing when brace is worn. Extensions connect flexor with base and force device to thigh and calf attachment straps. A knee strap may be used with force device. Knee strap has opening to fit over patella and straps for wrapping around knee without hampering knee flexion.
