  • Publication number: 20190373299
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for seamlessly connecting devices based on relationships between the users of the respective devices. A media guidance application may determine that a first user has entered an environment (e.g., his/her mother's home) and may determine a frequency with which the first user enters the environment (e.g., daily). In response to determining that the first user visits frequently, the media guidance application may identify a second device in the environment (e.g., a smart TV) that a second user (e.g., the first user's mother) is authorized to grant access rights for. The media guidance application may determine a likelihood that the second user will grant the access rights for the second device to the first user, based on interaction data between the first user and the second user. In response to determining a high likelihood, the media guidance application may transmit the access rights.

  • Patent number: 10489826
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for allowing a user to grant or deny a third party access to different portions of the user's profile characteristics. Control circuitry may calculate an optimal promotion offer from a third party to a user based on a first layer of the user's profile characteristics matching a target-audience profile of the third party. Control circuitry may then generate for display the optimal promotion offer to the user. In response to receiving a selection of the optimal promotion offer from the user, control circuitry may receive further selections, from the user, of a subset of the user's profile characteristics to share with the third party, and then generate for display, to the user, an actual promotion offer based on the selected subset of profile characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20190335235
Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for determining a level of user engagement based on user interactions. A media guidance application is configured to retrieve a first record of a first plurality of user inputs, including input type, received during consumption of a media asset. A second time interval, prior to the first time interval, is selected by shifting the first start time and the first end time. A second record of a second plurality of user inputs received during the second time interval, including input type, is retrieved. A first media asset consumed during the first time interval and a second media asset consumed during the second time interval are determined, and the level of user engagement for the first media asset is determined based on the first record and the second record.

  • Publication number: 20190327509
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for enabling multiple users' digital rights to be applied as needed to access media while those users are present to consume media. In particular, a media guidance application may receive a selection of a media asset and determine that the user equipment device does not allow access to the media asset. In response, the media guidance application may identify all the users consuming content from that user equipment device and retrieve digital rights for each user. The media guidance application may compare the digital rights of each user with digital rights required to access the media asset. The media guidance application may, based on the comparison, identify a set of digital rights (e.g., for another user present) that enable access to the media asset, and use those digital rights to access the media asset for consumption.

  • Publication number: 20190325114
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for intelligently accessing media content based on rights. This may be accomplished by a media guidance application that generates a DRM score associated with a first copy of the media asset. The media guidance application determines that plurality of alternative copies of a media asset are available from other sources and determines DRM scores for the alternative copies. The media guidance application determines that one of the alternative copies has a lower digital rights management score as compared to the first copy of the media asset and stores the alternative copy instead of the first copy of the media asset.

  • Patent number: 10412434
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for seamlessly connecting to a user's device in order to share and display a media asset. A media guidance application may determine that a first user has entered an environment of a second user (e.g., his/her mother's home). Stored on a first device of the first user may be a media asset (e.g., a photo album), which features an individual related to the second user (e.g., the second user's granddaughter). Based on the interaction data between the individual and the second user, the media guidance application may determine a likelihood that the second user will grant the access rights for the second device to the first user in order to view the media asset. In response to determining a high likelihood, the media guidance application may transmit the access rights to the first device and display the media asset on the second device.

  • Publication number: 20190174192
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for modeling the consistency of audiences viewing groups of media assets. For example, a media guidance application (e.g., executed on a server) may identify a first subset of user equipment that generated for display a first media asset (e.g., an episode of a series). The media guidance application may then identify a second subset of the first subset where the user equipment generated for display another media asset that is part of a group of media assets (e.g., another episode of the same series). Based on the number of user equipment in the second subset, the media guidance application may calculate a score for audience consistency for the group of media assets (e.g., the series) which can be used to rank the group of media assets among other groups of media assets.

  • Patent number: 10291958
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for measuring audience engagement for a media asset using user motion. For example, a media guidance application may receive movement logs from a plurality of user equipment. These movement logs may contain information indicating when each of the plurality of users moved, as detected by motion sensors, while the user equipment was generating for display a media asset. The movement logs may be analyzed to determine time periods during the media asset during which greater than a certain number of the plurality of users were moving. These time periods may in turn be used to infer how engaged the plurality of users were during the media asset or what portions of the media asset the plurality of users viewed. This data may be used to determine in what media assets, or portions thereof, supplemental video content should be inserted.

  • Publication number: 20190110090
Abstract: System and method are disclosed herein for excluding consumed content from a content presentation. Specifically, fingerprints for each unique media asset included in a compilation of media content consumed by a user may be obtained and stored in a user's profile. Fingerprints for each unique media asset included in another compilation of media content may be generated and compared with fingerprints stored in the user's profile to determine which of the unique media assets in the other compilation have been consumed by the user. The second compilation may be presented to the user without the unique media assets that were consumed.
