  • Publication number: 20100033890
Abstract: A clutch actuator for an electromechanical clutch having a solenoid actuating coil initially provides power to the solenoid at a high rate by using a high duty cycle pulse with a modulated controller. When the initial engagement of the clutch elements is sensed by a decrease in current, the duty cycle of the pulse width modulator is reduced and thereafter increased in a controlled fashion to accomplish a soft start.

  • Publication number: 20100015697
Abstract: A micro-fluidic manipulation device is formed using a plastic material or glass. There is at least one well in the device. The well has a base and a side wall and is dimensioned to receive a cell. There is at least one base fluid port in the base of the well and side fluid ports in the side wall. Each of the base fluid port and the side fluid ports are of a cross sectional area to prevent a cell passing therethrough. Selected flow of fluid through the base port in use assists in supporting a cell in the well and selected flow of fluid through the base port and the side ports in use assists in rotating the cell in the well. The well can have a retention section and a loading section, the loading section being above and larger than the retention section. The loading section can have a loading channel extending to it or alternatively an access hatch. The side fluid ports open into a lower region of the loading section.

  • Patent number: 7640324
Abstract: Computers on a local computer network, such as a home network or a small business network, are formed into a secured network group that provides common user access control and enables resource sharing among the computers in the group. A computer on the local network discovers whether there are secured network groups existing on the local network. If one secured network group is found, the computer indicates to a second computer in the group its desire to join the group, and establishes trust with that computer, such as by entering a proper user name and password, or a secret identification number. Once the trust is established, the first computer joins the group. Within the secured network group, user accounts and user profiles are replicated to each of the computers in the group. The establishment of trust and the replication of user accounts and profiles among the computers in the group enable the implementation of security policies and user access control in a group-wide manner.

  • Patent number: 7577705
Abstract: The present invention is directed to providing extensible and adaptable software communications controls for handling communication between devices. An extensible communications control is used to communicate between the computing device and a remote communications device. In a computing program that has been adapted to use the extensible communications control, information about a contact person is retrieved. From the retrieved contact information, it is determined what types of activities may be used to communicate with the contact person at the remote communications device. Once a communication activity has been determined from the contact person's information, a communication request is sent to a communication address associated with that communication activity. Upon acceptance the extensible communications control commences communication with the remote communications device.

  • Patent number: 7568167
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for making real-time communication user interfaces less intrusive by automatically adjusting the user interfaces based on the user's level of interaction. An initial representation of a user interface for real-time communication is displayed and automatically adapted to the user's activity level based on user input directed to the user interface. For example, the initial representation may be automatically adjusted, either reduced or enlarged, to an intermediate representation, a larger representation, or a smaller representation. When a representation is reduced, a message may be displayed to indicate the reduced representation's location. For smaller representations, subsequently received real-time messages may be displayed adjacent to the smaller representation, at least for a predetermined time. The initial representation may display in a desktop bar that displays other user interfaces, such as for a calendar, etc.

  • Publication number: 20090135659
Abstract: Providing for suppression of room temperature electronic drift in a flash memory cell is provided herein. For example, a soft program pulse can be applied to the flash memory cell immediately after an erase pulse. The soft program pulse can help to mitigate dipole effects caused by non-combined electrons and holes in the memory cell. Specifically, by utilizing a relatively low gate voltage, the soft program pulse can inject electrons into the flash memory cell proximate a distribution of uncombined holes associated with the erase pulse in order to facilitate rapid combination of such particles.
