  • Patent number: 7521584
Abstract: A method for inhibiting and/or ameliorating the occurrence of diseases associated with reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, radicals and/or non-radicals in a subject whereby a subject is administered a carotenoid analog or derivative, either alone or in combination with another carotenoid analog or derivative, or co-antioxidant formulation. The analog or derivative is administered such that the subject's risk of experiencing diseases associated with reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, radicals and/or non-radicals may be thereby reduced. The analog or analog combination may be administered to a subject for the inhibition and/or amelioration of any disease that involves production of reactive oxygen species, reactive nitrogen species, radicals and/or non-radicals. In some embodiments, the invention may include a chemical compound including an analog or derivative of a carotenoid. The carotenoid analog or derivative may be synthetic.

  • Patent number: 7506469
Abstract: A configurable firearm grip is provided in which a removable portion thereof can be selected by the user based on the user's preference. For example, backstraps of various forms, thicknesses, and textures can be fitted to a handgun depending upon if the handgun is to be used for target shooting, competitive target shooting, hunting, personal protection, or any other shooting activity, or to accommodate varying hand sizes. The backstrap can be removed and installed without the use of tools. Cooperative portions on the inner surfaces of the backstrap and the rearward portion of the grip facilitate the registration of the backstrap with a fixed portion in preparation for the insertion of a locking element. The backstrap is able to be secured on the fixed grip portion of the handgun with one hand while the locking element is inserted through the backstrap and the fixed grip portion with the other hand.

  • Patent number: 7501789
Abstract: The present invention relates to a solar powered battery charger with voltage regulation circuit and the method for recharging a car battery. The charger comprises an input port for receiving electrical power from a solar panel; an output port for providing electrical power to a battery; and a power regulation circuit electrically coupled to the input power. The power regulation circuit is electrically coupled to the output port and for monitoring a voltage thereon, having a first state in which electrical power is provided to the output port and a second state in which electrical power is not provided to the output port. The power regulation circuit remains in a first state when the voltage at the output port is below a threshold voltage and for other than remaining in the first state when the voltage at the output port is above the threshold voltage.

  • Publication number: 20090055458
Abstract: A multiple-input multiple-output s-box receives a contiguously numbered input bits (101, 102, 103, 104, 105) I1, I2 to Ia, where a is at least 4, and outputs b contiguously numbered output bits (131, 132, 133, 134, 135) O1, O2, to Ob. The s-box comprises c primitive s-boxes (121, 122, 123) sb1 sb2 to sbc. Each primitive s-box (121, 122, 123) has a multiple-input single-output Boolean function ƒ1, ƒ2, to ƒo defining the relationship between the multiple inputs and the single output. Each primitive s-box (121, 122, 123) receives a set of input bits s1, s2, to sc, respectively, each such set is chosen from the a input bits (101, 102, 103, 104, 105) to the s-box and containing sl1, sl2, to slc bits respectively. Each of the numbers sl1, sl2, to slc, is in the range of 3 to (a?1), and the sum of the numbers sl1, sl2, to slc is larger than a. The b output bits of the s-box (131, 132, 133, 134, 135) are the outputs of the c Boolean functions.

  • Publication number: 20090030998
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for tracking real-time communication data within a single contact tracking application for diverse communication providers and applications. A global data store is synchronized with real-time communication data, such as presence, status, unread messages, and unread notifications, from each application/provider. Real-time communication data for contacts dynamically determined to be recent contacts is retrieved from the data store, based on properties such as a most recent communication time, a communication count, and the like. Real-time communication data corresponding to contacts identified as pinned contacts for which display of real-time communication data is preferred, also may be retrieved. A user interface is generated for displaying the one or more recent and/or pinned contacts, which may vary in size based on the number of contacts identified as pinned contacts, from which a contact may be selected for real-time conversation or e-mail.

  • Publication number: 20090019063
Abstract: A content syndication platform, such as a web content syndication platform, manages, organizes and makes available for consumption content that is acquired from the Internet. In at least some embodiments, the platform can acquire and organize web content, and make such content available for consumption by many different types of applications. These applications may or may not necessarily understand the particular syndication format. An application program interface (API) exposes an object model which allows applications and users to easily accomplish many different tasks such as creating, reading, updating, deleting feeds and the like. Further, in at least some embodiments, a user can subscribe to a particular web feed, be provided with a user interface that contains distinct indicia to identify new feeds, and can efficiently consume or read RSS feeds using both an RSS reader and a web browser.

  • Patent number: 7474299
Abstract: A method for software control using a user-interactive display screen feature is disclosed that reduces stylus or other manipulations necessary to invoke software functionality from the display screen. According to the method, a graphical feature having a surface area is displayed on a touch-sensitive screen. The touch-sensitive screen is coupled to at least one processor and the graphical feature is generated by an operating system and uniquely associated with a particular software program by the operating system. To control software executing on the processor, a user-supplied writing on the surface area is received and the software is controlled responsive to the writing. In alternate embodiments, the method further controls data stored in a memory device responsive to the writing or further controls transmission of data from a radiation emitter, which may be coupled to voice and data networks.
