  • Patent number: 5678942
Abstract: A ball-point pen having a coupling, a tip at the distal end of the coupling, and a reservoir tube at the proximal end of the coupling. The tip may held in a tip holder, which, in turn, is coupled to the distal end of the coupling. A valve chamber is formed within the coupling with a ball seat having a guide hole therethrough on the rear portion of the valve chamber and projecting ridges on the front portion of the valve chamber. When the ball-point pen is positioned with its tip upward, a ball valve is brought into contact with the ball seat to close the guide hole and thereby prevent back flow of ink. When the ball-point pen is positioned with its tip downward, the guide hole is opened and the ball valve contacts the rear ends of the projecting ridges, so that ink flows into the tip through the guide hole, the valve chamber, and grooves formed between the ridges. A spring may be interposed in the inner hole of the tip with its proximal end held in place by the coupling.

  • Patent number: 5655847
Abstract: A ball-point pen of the present invention is provided which includes: a ball-point pen refill being accommodated in the barrel cylinder and having: a tip with a tip ball held at the front end thereof; an ink reservoir which stores low-viscosity oily ink and has an ink follower provided in the rear end of the ink; and a joint disposed between the tip and the ink reservoir. The joint further includes: a valve chamber holding a ball valve in its inside and communicating with the rear end of the tip; and a ball valve seat disposed on the rear side of the valve chamber for the ball valve in order to prevent backward flow of ink. With this configuration, it is possible to provide a ball-point pen which, without need of any cap, can create dense writing traces free from blotting and unevenness even when a low viscosity oily ink is used.

  • Patent number: 5200949
Abstract: A link changeover control system for a LAN of a broadcasting arrangement has one master supervisor node station and a plurality of normal node stations connected by an active LAN link path and spare LAN link paths. A pilot signal is inserted into a communication signal in the master supervisor node station and the pilot signal is detected in the normal node stations, whereby the active LAN link path is maintained to be used for communication. In the vent of the pilot signal becoming undetectable at least by one of the normal node stations, the master supervisor node station changes the link path used for communication from the acitve LAN link path to one of the spare LAN link paths and, at the same time, the normal node stations changes the link path used for communication from the active LAN link path to the spare LAN link path through which the pilot signal has become detectable.

  • Patent number: 5140689
Abstract: In a distributed transaction processing system of a two-phase commit scheme, a client sequentially requests all the servers to perform PHASE I processing. When all the servers complete the PHASE I processing, the client stores data indicating the completion of the processing. When an operation is restarted after a system down of a given server, the server inquires of the client whether all the servers have completed the PHASE I processing. If all the servers have completed the PHASE I processing, the server executes PHASE II processing. If not all the servers have completed the PHASE I processing, the server in which failures occur, causing abnormal system termination performs rollback processing, and the client requests other servers which have completed the PHASE I processing to perform rollback processing.
