  • Patent number: 4817466
Abstract: A remote control system for a watercraft having a remotely positioned control device and a plurality of control device for operating the engine speed, transmission control and starter. The means for transmitting the signal from the control device to the controlled devices includes a computer that is programmed for moving the throttle of the engine to neutral when a shift is being made and for limiting the speed of the engine in reverse. In addition, and emergency deceleration device is provided for rapidly closing the throttle and shifting the transmission into the opposite direction for emergency deceleration. An improved starter arrangement is incorporated wherein the transmission is moved to neutral upon initiation of a starting sequence and the started is cranked for only a predetermined time interval to prevent overheating.

  • Patent number: 4813898
Abstract: Two embodiments of improved jet drive units for watercraft wherein the jet drive impeller shaft is coupled to the engine drive shaft by a slip spline connection for facilitating removal of the jet drive unit for servicing without removal of the engine. In addition, an improved connection is provided between the impeller shaft and the impeller that dispenses for the need for splines and thus permits a smaller impeller hub and a greater efficiency jet drive unit.

  • Patent number: 4787328
Abstract: A number of embodiments for removing bilge water from a jet powered watercraft without obstructing the flow through the jet propulsion unit. In all of the embodiments, a portion of the water pressurized by the jet propulsion unit is diverted through a venturi section and the reduced pressure at the throat of the venturi section is used for drawing the bilge water. In many of the embodiments, the bilge water discharge opening is located so that bubbles will appear to the operator when the watercraft is in an idling mode for indicating to the operator that the bilge has been cleared of water. In one embodiment, the bilge water is discharge into the exhaust system of the engine for aiding in exhaust cooling.

  • Patent number: 4671220
Abstract: Several embodiments of charge forming devices including improved accelerating pumps wherein the discharge of fuel from the accelerating pump is extended in time through the use of an accumulator chamber. In addition, the accelerating pump has an upstream and downstream discharge port. The accumulator chamber is also adapted to discharge fuel into the induction passage during extreme deceleration so as to improve engine running and prevent stalling under these circumstances.

  • Patent number: 4493656
Abstract: A position sensing unit for the outboard drive of a marine engine for providing an indication of the trim angle of the drive. The position sensing unit comprises a sensing device that is carried by the outboard drive outboard of the transom and an angle reading device that is positioned inboard of the transom. A connecting device transmits a position signal from the sensing device to the angle reading device so that the angle reading device may be positioned remotely from the outboard drive.
