  • Publication number: 20080205596
Abstract: There is provided a nondestructive method for inspecting ceramic structures, the method which not only easily detects the position and size of an internal defect in a ceramic structure in a short time, but also accurately identifies the position, shape, and size of the internal defect. In the method, the distribution of X-ray absorption coefficients (CT numbers) at fault planes of the ceramic structure is measured by irradiating the periphery of the ceramic structure with X rays along the periphery of the ceramic structure so that the X rays scan the entire periphery. The X rays are emitted from an X-ray tube at a tube voltage in the range of 80 to 400 kV and a tube current in the range of 2 to 400 mA.

  • Patent number: 7375820
Abstract: Interference measuring apparatus having an optical system for dividing a coherent light beam into two light beams, and causing the divided two light beams to pass along discrete optical paths. The light beams are made into linearly polarized light beams orthogonal to each other and given modulation to the phase of the wave front of at least one of them. The wave fronts of the linearly polarized light beams are superposed one upon the others. A light dividing member divides the light beams superposed one upon the other by the optical system into a plurality of light beams. A polarizing plate takes out each light beam with a 45° polarized component, and a plurality of light receiving elements individually receive the light beams taken out by the polarizing plate.

  • Publication number: 20070103694
Abstract: Beams having wavelengths of ?1 and ?2 individually emitted from two light sources are combined through an optical fiber. The combined beam is emitted from an output end face of the optical fiber and then separated by a polarizing beam splitter. A first separated beam is reflected by a measurement target, whereas a second separated beam is reflected by a reference mirror. Both beams are combined, and the combined beam is separated into a beam having a wavelength of ?1 and that of ?2. The separated beams enter respective photoelectric conversion elements. By obtaining one period of an electric signal having a sinusoidal wave for a displacement of (½)?1 and that of (½)?2, a displacement gauge for measuring the amount of displacement of a measurement target is provided.

  • Publication number: 20070051220
Abstract: The method and the device for positioning a columnar structure which can promote properties of the resulting columnar structure (ceramic honeycomb structure), such as thermal shock resistance, isostatic strength, thermal stress, mechanical stress, and the like, and can exhibit improved productivity due to excellent drying performance of the coated areas by approximation of the central axis of the columnar structure and the central axis of the seat, thereby flattening the coating thickness when a coating is applied to the outer circumferential surface of the columnar structure, are provided. After causing the positioning fixture to abut on the seat mounting the columnar structure thereon, the columnar structure is moved from the seat using a positioning adjustment fixture placed opposing the positioning fixture, while keeping the columnar structure to abut on the positioning adjustment fixture at one or two points, thereby causing the columnar structure to abut on the positioning fixture.

  • Publication number: 20070024862
Abstract: A first beam having high coherence and a second beam having low coherence are multiplexed onto the same optical axis. This multiplexed beam is split into first and second multiplexed beams. The first multiplexed beam is directed towards a measurement reflection plane of an object to be measured, and the second multiplexed beam is directed towards a reference plane. The first and second multiplexed beams that are reflected from the measurement reflection plane and the reference plane, respectively, are multiplexed to cause the first beams to interfere with each other and the second beams to interfere with each other. Calculations are carried out to determine a measurement origin on the basis of the first and second interference signals obtained from the first and second beams, respectively.

  • Publication number: 20070024863
Abstract: A first beam having high coherence and a second beam having low coherence and having a central wavelength difference from that of the first beam are multiplexed onto the same optical axis. First and second multiplexed beams obtained by beam splitting are emitted at a measurement reflection plane and a reference plane, respectively. The reflected first and second multiplexed beams are multiplexed and interfere with each other. The interference generates a first interference signal that is obtained from the first beams at the interference unit and that relates to information on the distance to the measurement reflection plane and a second interference signal that is obtained from the second beams. The first and second interference signals are used to carry out calculations for determining the position of a measurement origin for the measurement reflection plane.
