  • Patent number: 7755269
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a spacer which has an adequate Young's modulus for a spacer used in an image display panel and allows free adjustment of an electric resistance value, and an image display panel using the spacer. The spacer SPC holds a gap between a back panel PNL1 including a signal line CL, a scanning line GL, and an electronic source ELS provided for the main surface of a back substrate SUB1, and a front panel PNL2 including a fluorescent material PH, a black matrix BM, and an anode AD provided for the main surface of a front substrate SUB2. The spacer comprises phosphate glass including the same transition metal element with different valences. For electrical conduction, the included same transition metal element with different valences allows the use of hopping conduction between transition metal atoms with different valences to perform adjustment of electric resistance relatively easily.

  • Patent number: 7417366
Abstract: The present invention provides an image display device in which it is possible to obtain an image display of high brightness and high contrast by preventing the halation which may be generated in a peripheral portion of a display image. By providing a carbon film which attenuates the reentry of secondary electrons, which are generated when electron beams impinge on an anodes, to a back surface of the anode, even when primary electrons impinge on the anode, the secondary electrons are hardly emitted from the anode. At the same time, a trace amount of emitted secondary electrons are mainly formed of electrons having a small energy. Hence, these emitted secondary electrons are scattered and hardly reenter the anode.

  • Patent number: 7408298
Abstract: On a back surface of a back substrate on which electron emission sources are formed, a getter room is formed by the back substrate and a cup-shaped room member. In the inside of the getter room, a getter assembly which includes a getter housing which holds a getter and a getter support which supports the getter housing is arranged. End portions of the getter support are fixed to and arranged between the back substrate and the room member by a sealing material. • Publication number: 20080180019
Abstract: In the case of a flat panel display having an vacuum envelope in which electron sources are formed in a matrix, it is difficult to control the distance between the front substrate and the rear substrate in and around the effective screen area. Spacers are arranged both in and around the effective display area 6. Inner spacers 12 are arranged in the effective display area 6 while outer spacers 13 are arranged around the effective display area 6. The distance between the front substrate 2 and the front substrate 1 in the peripheral area is controlled by the outer spacers 13. This can solve various problems including the electrification of spacers 12 which may occur if the distance between the front substrate 2 and the front substrate 1 is not uniform.

  • Publication number: 20080136306
Abstract: A spacer according to the present invention for use in a flat panel display, which includes a cathode substrate with a cold cathode electron emitting device formed thereon, an anode substrate with a phosphor formed thereon, and a spacer disposed between the cathode and anode substrates, comprises a base made of a conductive glass, and a conductive crystallized glass layer on a surface of the base. The spacer is more excellent in antistatic characteristics than conventional spacers having a conducting layer on the surface of an insulating glass base. A flat panel display according to the present invention using the spacers permits a higher voltage to be applied, thus increasing image quality.

  • Patent number: 7385343
Abstract: Rupture of distance holding members, aback substrate or a front substrate attributed to atmospheric pressure is suppressed in a display device in which, between the back substrate having cathode lines and plate-member control electrodes and the front substrate, a large number of distance holding members, which maintain distance between the substrates, are mounted in an erect manner. At portions where the distance holding members are brought into contact with the back substrate and/or the front substrate, a buffering/fixing material, which is constituted of a buffering material having high resiliency and an adhesive, is interposed for dispersing the atmospheric pressure applied from the back substrate and the front substrate substantially uniformly. Further, the distance holding members are fixed between the back substrate and the front substrate by a heat treatment and a pressurizing step.

  • Publication number: 20080048552
Abstract: In an image display device which forms an image by allowing electrons from electron sources which are arranged in a matrix array to impinge on phosphors in the inside of a vacuum envelope, the degree of vacuum during an operation of the image display device is improved. A vacuum envelope is formed of a face substrate, a back substrate and a support body which is arranged between and along peripheries of the face substrate and the back substrate using a sealing material. By using frit glass which contains vanadium oxide as a main component for a material of the sealing material, due to a getter action of frit glass which contains vanadium oxide as the main component, after vacuum evacuation, a lifetime of the display device can be prolonged. Further, by using frit glass which contains vanadium oxide as the main component for a material of an adhesive material which bonds the spacers and the face substrate or bonds the spacers and the back glass, the getter action can be further enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20080007151
Abstract: A spacer of the present invention for use in an image display device, which has the spacer between a cathode substrate with a cold cathode electron emitting device formed thereon and an anode substrate with a phosphor formed thereon, comprises a phosphate glass having transition metal oxides as its main components, and a higher phosphate concentration layer at the spacer surface. A thickness of the higher phosphate concentration layer is suppressed to 0.5 ?m or less. More preferably, the spacer has a water resistant conductive passivation layer formed on its surface. This suppresses the thickness of the higher phosphate concentration layer to a thinner level, so that the spacer is less likely to be charged thus reducing the deflection amount of electron beam. An image display device of the present invention using above spacer can apply a higher voltage to the anode substrate, thus increasing the image quality.
