  • Patent number: 6047666
Abstract: A heat generator has a heating chamber and a pair of heat exchange chambers located adjacent to the heating chamber. The heating chamber includes inner walls and accommodates viscous fluid. A rotor is located in the heating chamber and has shearing surfaces facing the inner walls of the heating chamber. The rotor is rotated for shearing the viscous fluid that occupies the clearance between the inner walls of the heating chamber and the working surfaces thereby generating heat. Each inner wall includes a center region, which is located in the vicinity of the axis of the rotor, and a peripheral region, which surrounds the center region. Heat generated in the heating chamber is transferred to the heat exchange chambers and heats circulating fluid in the heat exchange chambers. Each inner wall includes grooves extending radially from the peripheral region to the center region. Each groove includes a bottom and a pair of side walls.

  • Patent number: 6032237
Abstract: A non-volatile memory, such as a flash memory card, using a rewritable non-volatile memory is provided with an improved write-protect arrangement. The non-volatile memory includes a collectively electrically erasable and writable memory (e.g., a flash memory), a reset IC for generating a power-on reset signal upon turn-on of the power supply, and a card controller for performing control between each flash memory device and a memory card interface. The flash memory is set with a write protect save register written with an address of an area desired to be subjected to write protect, the write protect save register belonging to an attribute area, and a protect range is set from the system. Since the address to be write-protected is itself written in the non-volatile flash memory, the address will continue to be stored, even if the power is turned off. A method for software write protection control is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6016647
Abstract: A method for using a bunching type twisting machine to manufacture a steel cord made up of one core filament having a continuous wavy form and five to eight sheath filaments not having a wavy form disposed around the core filament, the cross-sectional shape of the cord forming an ellipse whose orientation is substantially constant in the length direction of the cord. After a core filament is preformed with a helical wavy form of a smaller pitch than the cord twisting pitch, this is squashed to form a flat helical core filament at a stage before it is twisted together with sheath filaments, and then sheath filaments are twisted around this flat helical core filament to make an intermediate product cord and this intermediate product cord is then squashed and thereby flattened before being taken up on a reel.

  • Patent number: 5975926
Abstract: The plug connection comprises an elastomeric shroud having a plug-receiving portion through which is connected a spark plug comprising an hexagonal handling nut. A metal shield, comprising a top cover portion and two side-shield portions, covers the elastomeric shroud. When mounted, the side-shield portions surround the plug-receiving portions and form joint seam zones, each having a bottom end portion and a top portion. The bottom end portion of one seam zone includes an opening and the bottom end portion of the other seam zone includes a corresponding tab. The side-shield portions further comprise flanges. When the plug connection is connected to the spark plug, the flanges fit onto the hexagonal handling nut and the opening and tab are loosely fitted, so that the joint seam zones can be spaced apart.

  • Patent number: 5911361
Abstract: A viscous heater includes a heat generating chamber 10 of a sealed structure. The viscous heater is further provided with a storage chamber SR, which is in communication with the heat generating chamber 10 at its central part, via a recovery hole 3c, a feed groove 3f and a feed hole 3e formed in a rear plate 3 and a rear housing 4. • Patent number: 5908010
Abstract: A heater containing viscous fluid, which is sheared to generate heat. The heater is provided with an electromagnetic solenoid that includes a case, a solenoid coil housed in the case, and a core extending through the case. The heater further has a heating chamber and a sub-oil chamber. Viscous fluid is moved between the heating chamber and the sub-oil chamber through a communication bore. The core extends toward the communication bore. A coil spring urges the core toward the communication bore. Excitation of the electromagnetic solenoid moves the core away from the communication bore. The core opens and closes the communication bore and pumps the viscous fluid into the communication bore when the solenoid is cycled on and off. As a result, the heat output is accelerated.

  • Patent number: 5881711
Abstract: A viscous heater is provided with a front side plate 2 and a rear side plate 3, which are arranged so that a heat generating chamber 5 is formed between their facing back surfaces and which are stored in a housing so that heat emission chambers FW and RW are formed between the side plates and the housing. The housing is formed by a front housing having a tubular part 1c which extends axially for storing the front and side plates radially inwardly of the tubular part 1c and a rear housing 4. Thus, sealing is necessary only at a location where the front and rear housings 1 and 4 are connected with each other. Thus, a very simple structure is sufficient for preventing any leakage of the recirculated fluid.

  • Patent number: 5881682
Abstract: A heat generator is disclosed that has its driving state constantly monitored and can be disconnected from a power source after an abnormality of its drive mechanism is detected. A plurality of holes are formed at equal angular intervals along the periphery of a disk-shaped rotor, which is capable of rotating in unison with a drive shaft. A magnetic sensor is mounted in a rear housing in a manner opposed to the holes. The drive shaft is selectively connected to the outer drive source via an electromagnetic clutch. A closed magnetic circuit, which is formed in the heat generator by magnetic flux leakage from the electromagnetic clutch, extends through the rotor and the magnetic sensor. When the rotor is rotating normally, the magnetic flux is periodically disturbed by the holes, and the magnetic sensor outputs a pulse signal indicative of the sensed periodic disturbance of the magnetic flux.
