  • Patent number: 6609797
Abstract: A projector is often positioned so that its optical axis is at an imperfect orthogonal angle with respect to a projection screen. This position causes a keystone distortion as well as imperfect focus in the projected image. To correct these undesirable problems, initially, a lens and/or an image-forming plate is independently repositioned to bring the projected image into focus based upon user input data. The keystone distortion is also corrected by redrawing the image on an image-forming surface based upon additional user input data.

  • Publication number: 20030002750
Abstract: A camera system includes a display monitor which displays an image of an object, taken by an optical unit, on a screen of the monitor. A reading unit reads a preceding image and a current image among a plurality of partially overlapping images, from a memory device, the preceding image and the current image containing a common element. A determining unit determines a positional relation between the preceding image and the current image based on a common pattern derived from the common element in the two adjacent images read by the reading unit. A displaying unit displays an image indicating a boundary of the preceding image on the screen of the monitor at a shifted position according to the positional relation determined by the determining unit, with the current image concurrently displayed on the screen of the monitor.

  • Publication number: 20020113946
Abstract: The present invention provides an image input apparatus into which a three-dimensional image as well as a two-dimensional image can be easily input. This image input apparatus includes an image pick-up unit, a projector unit, and a mover unit. The projector unit projects a predetermined projection light pattern onto an image object, and the image pick-up unit picks up the projection image containing distortions of the projection light pattern. The relative position between the projector unit and the image pick-up unit is fixed. The mover unit moves the image pick-up unit relatively with the projector unit, so that the image pick-up unit can pick up a plurality of projection images at different image pick-up locations.

  • Publication number: 20020041717
Abstract: In image processing method and apparatus of the present invention, image distortions caused by oblique imaging are corrected. A feature point of one of a plurality of partially overlapping images corresponding to a common location of an original image, shared by the plurality of partially overlapping images, is determined. A matched point of one of the other partially overlapping images corresponding to the feature point is determined so that a direction of the object plane is calculated based on the feature point and the matched point. One of the plurality of partially overlapping images is selected as a standard image whose image distortions are to be corrected. A distortion-corrected image is generated on a projection plane by projecting the standard image onto the projection plane based on the direction of the object plane such that image distortions in the standard image are eliminated.

  • Publication number: 20020030748
Abstract: The image input apparatus comprises the image pickup unit which optically scans a subject and successively acquires partial images of the subject. The relative change detection unit detects an amount of relative change in position or speed of the image pickup unit between a time when a previous partial image was taken and a time when a current partial image is being taken. The an overlapping amount calculating unit calculates an amount of overlap between the previous partial image and the current partial image based upon the amount of relative change in position or speed detected by the relative change detection unit. The image recording determination unit determines whether or not the current partial image is to be recorded based upon the amount of overlap calculated by the overlapping amount calculating unit.

  • Patent number: 6104840
Abstract: A composite image is generated from partially overlapping adjacent images taken at a single location along a plurality of axes. The angular relation among the overlapping images is initially determined based upon a common pattern in an overlapping portion of the images. The overlapping images are each converted to with respect to one of the images selected as a standard image based upon the previously determined angular relation.
