  • Patent number: 7007646
Abstract: A valve gear with a cylinder suspending mechanism of an internal combustion engine, whose entire valve gear mechanism is downsized by efficiently arranging the configuration of the valve gear including the cylinder suspending mechanism. A low-speed drive rocker arm and a high-speed drive rocker arm are disposed in front and at the rear of an intake driven rocker arm so that pistons of low-speed and high-speed cylinder portions arranged side by side in the intake driven rocker arm may be pressed by operating operation arm portions extending from the respective drive rocker arms, to thereby arrange the low-speed and high-speed cylinder portions and the low-speed and high-speed drive rocker arms around the intake driven rocker arm to gather in one place.

  • Publication number: 20050279303
Abstract: A rocker arm mechanism opens and closes an intake valve. The intake valve is driven by cam of a cam shaft. The rocker arm mechanism is provided in each of bank. The rocker arm mechanism has a structure which change a phase of the intake valve while displacing a portion driven by the cam to a circumferential direction-of the cam shaft. A structure provided with an inversion mechanism inverts a rotating direction of the camshaft of one bank with respect to a rotating direction of the camshaft of the other bank is used. A variable valve unit having the simple and same structure is used in common to banks. A phase is varied so that a valve closing timing is set larger than a valve opening timing for each bank.

  • Patent number: 6941908
Abstract: An engine includes, a cylinder head, an intake valve, an exhaust valve, and a first clearance adjusting mechanism for actuating the intake valve. The first clearance adjusting mechanism (1) maintains a first valve clearance when the intake valve and the cylinder head are in a cold state, such that the intake valve closes after a bottom dead center, and (2) maintains a second valve clearance, shorter than the first valve clearance, when a temperature of the intake valve is in a hot state and a temperature of the cylinder head is still in the cold state, after a cold start of the engine, such that an open timing of the intake valve is advanced and a close timing of the intake valve is retarded. The exhaust valve opens and closes at fixed predetermined timings regardless of a temperature of the exhaust valve and the cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 6920869
Abstract: There is provided a V-type engine, in which deck cylinder parts of a cylinder block are offset in the same direction as a rotational direction of a crankshaft, and oil separation chambers are provided at an upper portion of the cylinder head displaced to a lower side by the offset. Therefore, an allowance in the axial direction of cylinders may be provided above a cylinder head of the deck cylinder parts on the lower side, and the capacity of the oil separation chambers is increased by the allowance so that the oil separation performance may be improved, while an increase in the total width and total height of an engine block is suppressed.

  • Publication number: 20050098128
Abstract: A variable valve train apparatus operable in a low-speed mode in which a low-speed rocker arm is rocked by a low-speed cam through a roller or a slipper to thereby open or close an intake valve, and in a high-speed mode in which a high-speed rocker arm is rocked by a high-speed cam through a roller or a slipper and a changeover mechanism part on the side of the low-speed rocker arm is pressed by a changeover mechanism part on the side of the high speed rocker arm together with which the low-speed rocker arm is rocked to open or close the intake valve. The axis of the changeover mechanism part is positioned at the middle of the width of the roller or slipper in the axial direction of the rocker shaft to prevent inclination of the high-speed rocker arm.

  • Publication number: 20050092270
Abstract: A valve gear for an internal combustion engine capable of promptly switching the position of a piston in a rocker arm to thereby change the engine operating condition with a satisfactory response, even in a low rotation region in which an adequate amount of oil discharged from an oil pump cannot be expected. Depending on positions of pistons slidably fitted in low-speed and high-speed cylinder portions provided in an intake driven rocker arm, a low-speed or high-speed drive rocker arm is selectively operated to press a corresponding one of the pistons. The piston in the low-speed cylinder portion switched in a low rotation region is made smaller in diameter than the piston in the high-speed cylinder portion, to be enabled to be promptly switched.

  • Publication number: 20050056242
Abstract: An internal combustion engine comprises, an intake valve, an exhaust valve, an exhaust gas purifying catalyst, and a valve mechanism which closes the intake valve after a piston reaches the bottom dead center and opens the exhaust valve before the piston reaches the bottom dead center in a hot state of the internal combustion engine, advances the opening timing of the intake valve from the opening timing of the intake valve in the hot state and retards the closing timing of the intake valve from the closing timing of the intake valve in the hot state when the internal combustion engine is cold, and opens the exhaust valve in substantially the same timing as the opening timing of the exhaust valve in the hot state, and closes the exhaust valve at substantially the same timing as closing timing of the exhaust valve in the hot state when the internal combustion engine is cold.

  • Publication number: 20050011695
Abstract: There is provided a V-type engine in which banks of an engine block are offset in the same direction as the rotational direction of a crankshaft so that the banks may be displaced toward an end of a vehicle body. On the offset side, engine accessory is mounted on a side of the engine block and below the banks. The width between the end of the engine accessory to which an impact is input first among component parts of the engine block and the end of the rear bank where the engine block moved due to the impact is abutted first on a vehicle body member is set to be shorter than in a conventional engine. Therefore, the crushable zone may be increased even in a limited engine compartment.

  • Patent number: 6820585
Abstract: Bearings and oil flow holes are formed on walls between cylinders of a cylinder block. Journals of a crank shaft are supported rotatably by the bearings and a bearing cap. The bearing cap has pairs of arms and a pair of beams which link the arms together. The arms face the under surfaces of the walls. The arms have vertical walls formed thereon. These vertical walls are formed on both sides of area right under the outlet of the oil flow hole along the top surface of the arm. An oil flowing through the outlet of the oil flow hole flows down along the top surface of the arm and the vertical walls and into an oil pan.
