  • Patent number: 6298726
Abstract: An acoustic impedance measuring apparatus emits ultrasonic waves to a target measurement object and measures the acoustic impedance of the target measurement object by ultrasonic waves fed back from the target measurement object. This acoustic impedance measuring apparatus includes an ultrasonic transducer, pulse signal generator, signal separator, frequency converter, parameter extractor, and acoustic impedance calculator. The pulse signal generator generates a pulse signal to be applied to the ultrasonic transducer. The signal separator separates, from an output from the ultrasonic transducer, an immediate ultrasonic response signal resulting from ultrasonic waves reflected by the surface of the target measurement object. The frequency converter obtains the frequency characteristics of the immediate ultrasonic response signal. The parameter extractor extracts predetermined parameters from the frequency characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5684769
Abstract: A optical recording/playback apparatus projects a laser beam on to a recording medium to read out precoded address data and record or read out data in the data recording area of the recording medium. The reflected light from the recording medium is detected by photosensors which produce currents from the received light intensity, and the currents are converted into voltage signals by current-to-voltage converting amplifiers and the signals are summed by a summing amplifier. The summing amplifier has a switching means, by which the gain is brought to unity or near-unity value during the period of reading the data recording area, so that the summed output has a smaller difference of voltage levels for the address area and data recording area even though the detected light intensity has a large difference between these portions.

  • Patent number: 5625616
Abstract: A current detector detects a driving current Im flowing through a light emitting device (laser diode); a temperature sensor is arranged in the vicinity of the light emitting device; a microcomputer is supplied with the outputs of the current detector and temperature sensor; a temperature correction coefficient specific to the light emitting device, obtained based on a driving current value IT1 at a temperature T1 and a driving current value IT2 at a temperature T2 (>T1), is stored in memory; a deterioration threshold current Id for a detected temperature Ti is calculated; and when the deterioration threshold current Id for the detected temperature Ti is exceeded by the detected current, a driver is controlled so as to inhibit the supply of the driving current to the light emitting device. Since the operating temperature also is taken into consideration, deterioration of the light emitting device can be accurately estimated, thereby preventing erroneous recording/reproduction of data.
