  • Publication number: 20120164979
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for performing a handover of a mobile node (MN) from a source to a target network, wherein a handover proxy node (HPN) is used to relay the handover of the MN to one of previously measured cells. The MN discovers an appropriate HPN and triggers the handover to the HPN by reporting the measurements together with the HPN ID as destination of the handover. When receiving the Handover Initiation message for handing over the MN to the HPN, the HPN will not proceed with the handover but adapts said handover to indicate a handover of the MN from the HPN to the target base station. Upon receiving the Handover Initiation message in the target network, system resources are configured for data forwarding between the source and target network, and for the data path used by the MN when attaching to the target base station.

  • Publication number: 20120113959
Abstract: When a mobile terminal transmitting/receiving a packet using a plurality of IP address types performs a handover to an access network (single address type connection network) permitting transmission/reception of a packet using a single IP address only, an IP address not permitted is unfortunately discarded at an access network as a handover destination. Disclosed is a technique configured so that a mobile terminal (UE 1) detecting a handover to the single address type connection network establishes a temporary connection with a mobility management gateway (PGW 5) and thereafter acquires an address of an ePDG 8 located at a core network and informs the ePDG of a communication state before the handover via a PDN using the temporary connection. The ePDG informs the PGW of the communication state of the UE before the handover. Thereby, the communication state of the UE before the handover is achieved with the PGW via the ePDG and the PDN.

  • Patent number: 8169970
Abstract: In a mobile communication system utilizing Mobile IP, information on the access network is exchanged between access routers. And when a mobile terminal performs a handover, the previously exchanged information on the neighbor access routers and the access network information are provided to the mobile terminal. By so doing, the mobile terminal can determine a destination access router in advance, enabling to realize an efficient handover processing.

  • Publication number: 20120069797
Abstract: A User Equipment (UE) that is simultaneously connected (via a 3G connection and a non-3G connection) to a Packet Data Network Gateway (P-GW) can direct how traffic flows would be routed from the P-GW to the UE. Typically, the P-GW would setup the 3G communication path to the UE when it receives a downlink data packet directed to the UE's 3G path. If the P-GW uses such logic for setting a communication path to the UE without knowing the user's actual intention, this might result in the case where the user would experience some service degradation for ongoing session. In addition, it is possible that the packets filters for a first UE interface are not utilized due to the erroneous setting of the packets filters for a second UE interface. To resolve this issue, the UE would indicate to the P-GW of the user's intention for communication path setup with the benefit of conserving the UE's battery.

  • Patent number: 8140710
Abstract: A home gateway device having a home agent function selects communication interfaces other than the communication interface which has acquired network information for setting a home network to be home links, and appropriately sets the home link and a home agent by using the acquired network information, thereby reliably achieving the automatization of the device setting. Moreover, the home gateway device selects a link connected to a mobile terminal based on a mobile IP as home link, acquires existing home agent information from the mobile terminal and makes settings with this information, thereby setting the home link without compelling the mobile terminal to change its setting.

  • Publication number: 20120044949
Abstract: The invention relates to optimizing a data path between two communication nodes. A route optimization agent (ROA) is determined in the current network of the second communication node, preferably on the data path between the two communication nodes. Then, an IP tunnel is established between the first communication node and the ROA, the IP tunnel and the corresponding security association of said IP tunnel being based on the home address of the first communication node in its home network. The first communication node may have two IP tunnels based on the same home address, one to its home agent and one to the ROA. Corresponding routing entries and binding cache entries need to be established in the ROA and the first communication node so that all data packets between the two communication nodes are exchanged via the established IP tunnel over the ROA.

  • Publication number: 20120026933
Abstract: Disclosed in a technique for registering, with a home agent, a routing rule for specifying packets destined to a second address generated from a home prefix as well as a home address and/or flow destination interfaces without increasing the number of messages. According to this technique, when a UE 10 is communicating (flow 1 and flow 2) with a CN 17 using the HoA, a routing rule indicating, for example, that flow 1 of packets destined to a HNP address is forwarded to a 3GPP interface IF1 and flow 2 of packets destined to the HNP address is forwarded to a WLAN interface IF2 is registered with a P-GW 13 through a routing rule registration message 21 such as a BU message at the time of starting simultaneous connections of the interfaces IF1 and IF2.

  • Publication number: 20120020343
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique in which when mobile terminal having multiple communication interfaces attaches to an access network, the mobile terminal can connect to a desired PGW quickly in a short time even if a PGW different from the desired PGW is allocated. According to the technique, when a mobile terminal (UE) 1 performs bootstrapping (BS) processing on an access network (N3G access (3)), the address of another communication interface (home prefix) already connected to the desired PGW (T-PGW?5b) is notified to a connection destination PGW (I-PGW 5a). If the I-PGW does not manage the address, processing is so performed that BS processing will be started from the T-PGW managing the address to the mobile terminal. Further, if the mobile terminal is connected to an I-PGW undesired on the N3G access, a request is made for reuse of a key exchanged with the I-PGW upon switching the connection from the I-PGW to the desired T-PGW.

  • Publication number: 20120011261
Abstract: A technique is disclosed to realize the change of session seamlessly and with high degree of freedom while reducing the increase of the processing load on a session control server upon a request to change the session from a terminal and to decrease the load on network traffic. According to this technique, trigger information is embedded in a session of content used by the terminal. When this trigger information is detected, the terminal carries out an operation to set up as trigger action (e.g. the change to another session). The relation between the trigger information and the trigger action may be described in sequence information, which is held by the terminal in advance or the trigger action may be described in the trigger information. With regard to certain trigger information, different types of trigger actions may be set up for each terminal (or, depending on the condition of the terminal).

  • Publication number: 20110261787
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, mobile node and computer-readable medium for establishing (or pre-establishing) a secure tunnel to an ePDG to prepare for a mobile node attachment or handover to another access network. To reduce the delay of a handover or upon attachment of a mobile node to an access network implied by mechanisms to discover a ePDG, the mobile node maintains a reachability list that can be consulted to identify an ePDG or ePDGs that are reachable in the target access network, i.e. to which the mobile node may establish a secure tunnel. If the mobile node can identify a reachable ePDG for a given access network from the reachability list, the mobile node (pre-)establishes a secure tunnel to the ePDG upon attaching to the given access network. In alternative solutions DNS, DHCP or other mechanism can be used to provide the mobile node with information on ePDGs in its vicinity.

  • Publication number: 20110225319
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique to allow a network operator of a mobile node to securely reject an unfavorable address for use in route optimization. According to the technique, when receiving a HoTI message 40 (Step S1), a HA 30 checks whether a sender address CoA of an external IP header 41 is a registered CoA or not (Step S2), and when it is not a registered CoA, the HA 30 discards the HoTI message 40 (Step S3). When it is a registered CoA, the HA 30 checks whether CoA1 in a CoA option 46 is OK for route optimization or not (Step S4). When it is OK for route optimization, the HA 30 transfers a decapsulated HoTI message 42 to a CN 20 (Step S5). On the other hand, when it is not OK for route optimization, the HA 30 discards the HoTI message 40 (Step S3).

  • Publication number: 20110216743
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for ensuring IP session continuity upon a handover of a mobile node to a non-3GPP network, wherein an ongoing IP session of the mobile node goes via a packet data network gateway. For non-3GPP networks it is necessary to discover a security gateway and to then establish the corresponding tunnels to the ePDG to form the new data path; a security tunnel between the mobile node and the security gateway, and an IP tunnel between the packet data network gateway and the security gateway. In order to prepare the handover to possible non-3GPP accesses, the two tunnels are pre-established, however maintained deactivated until their use is actually needed. Accordingly, when handing over to the non-3GPP network, the IP session may be continued without any significant interruption by activating the already established tunnels.
