  • Patent number: 9167486
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for performing a handover of a mobile node (MN) from a source to a target network, wherein a handover proxy node (HPN) is used to relay the handover of the MN to one of previously measured cells. The MN discovers an appropriate HPN and triggers the handover to the HPN by reporting the measurements together with the HPN ID as destination of the handover. When receiving the Handover Initiation message for handing over the MN to the HPN, the HPN will not proceed with the handover but adapts said handover to indicate a handover of the MN from the HPN to the target base station. Upon receiving the Handover Initiation message in the target network, system resources are configured for data forwarding between the source and target network, and for the data path used by the MN when attaching to the target base station.

  • Patent number: 9148826
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique to provide a handover method that can improve the communication efficiency by reducing tunnel overhead between a mobile node and a home agent. When the mobile node (UE) (107) performs handover (HO) from a first access router (104) to a second access router (105) and if the IP versions supported by the networks before and after the HO are different, the UE transmits a first message including an allocation request for a home address of the HO target to the home agent (HA) and a second message including an address allocation request. The HA transmits to the UE, a third message including the home address of the HO target based on the allocation request and transmits to the UE, a fourth message including the home address based on the address allocation request.

  • Patent number: 9143461
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique for enabling a device that needs to send high priority and high bandwidth user plane traffic to send the user plane traffic even in the case where a group bandwidth has an upper limit in group-based communication. According to the technique, when an MTC device that is to send high priority and high bandwidth user plane traffic sends a service request to a network node (P-GW 213a), the network node allows use of a minimum bandwidth bearer in the case where the upper limit of the group bandwidth is exceeded. The MTC device sends a traffic sending request to an MTC server 214a via the bearer. The MTC server stops traffic of an appropriate other MTC device, to secure a bandwidth for the MTC device having the high priority and high bandwidth user plane traffic.

  • Patent number: 9088938
Abstract: Two access gateways are informed about each other's presence and identity, in order to establish a data path between them, thereby shortening the overall data path of data packets exchanged between two mobile nodes (MN), that are located in different networks. In particular, each access gateway is provided with the other gateway's address and additionally with the other MN's address for forwarding by the access gateway those data packets destined to the other MN to the other access gateway. A combination of Session Initiation Protocol messages (Invite and Ringing) and route optimization messages are used, so as to confer the information on the gateway's ID and MN's address to the gateways.

  • Patent number: 8989739
Abstract: A technique is disclosed for preventing a mobile terminal from unnecessarily connecting to a local connection service provided by a mobile router. In a communication system, a UE 10 sends user preference information to a forwarding node 20 before the UE connects to the forwarding node, which is installed in a moving body 110 as an access point of the UE to forward information to the UE. The forwarding node determines whether information capable of being supplied to the UE is appropriate for a user of the UE based on the preference information and sends the determination result to the UE. When the UE becomes connectable to the forwarding node, the UE does not connect to the forwarding node if the information capable of being supplied is not appropriate for the user of the UE based on the determination result; else the UE connects to the forwarding node.

  • Patent number: 8971270
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for paging a group of MTC devices, and for transmitting parameter information to the MTC devices using the paging mechanism. MTC devices are grouped together and a different group ID per group to which the MTC device belongs is assigned to the MTC device. A specific group paging resource indication is determined for each group wherein each MTC device is assigned one of the group paging resource indications. The network pages MTC devices of a group by transmitting a paging message at the corresponding channel resources and including the corresponding group ID. Additionally, the group paging resource indications of several groups of MTC devices can be aligned in such a way with the transmissions and re-transmissions by the network, that the different groups respectively receive the transmission and re-transmissions of the paging message.

  • Patent number: 8964695
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for ensuring IP session continuity upon a handover of a mobile node to a non-3GPP network, wherein an ongoing IP session of the mobile node goes via a packet data network gateway. For non-3GPP networks it is necessary to discover a security gateway and to then establish the corresponding tunnels to the ePDG to form the new data path; a security tunnel between the mobile node and the security gateway, and an IP tunnel between the packet data network gateway and the security gateway. In order to prepare the handover to possible non-3GPP accesses, the two tunnels are pre-established, however maintained deactivated until their use is actually needed. Accordingly, when handing over to the non-3GPP network, the IP session may be continued without any significant interruption by activating the already established tunnels.

  • Patent number: 8964697
Abstract: When a mobile terminal transmitting/receiving a packet using a plurality of IP address types performs a handover to an access network (single address type connection network) permitting transmission/reception of a packet using a single IP address only, an IP address not permitted is unfortunately discarded at an access network as a handover destination. Disclosed is a technique configured so that a mobile terminal (UE 1) detecting a handover to the single address type connection network establishes a temporary connection with a mobility management gateway (PGW 5) and thereafter acquires an address of an ePDG 8 located at a core network and informs the ePDG of a communication state before the handover via a PDN using the temporary connection. The ePDG informs the PGW of the communication state of the UE before the handover. Thereby, the communication state of the UE before the handover is achieved with the PGW via the ePDG and the PDN.

  • Patent number: 8966099
Abstract: A technique is disclosed to realize the change of session seamlessly and with high degree of freedom while reducing the increase of the processing load on a session control server upon a request to change the session from a terminal and to decrease the load on network traffic. According to this technique, trigger information is embedded in a session of content used by the terminal. When this trigger information is detected, the terminal carries out an operation to set up as trigger action (e.g. the change to another session). The relation between the trigger information and the trigger action may be described in sequence information, which is held by the terminal in advance or the trigger action may be described in the trigger information. With regard to certain trigger information, different types of trigger actions may be set up for each terminal (or, depending on the condition of the terminal).

  • Patent number: 8964694
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique to enable a session handover between devices with different key generation functions in an authentication protocol. According to the technique, when a session where a UE (200) receives contents from a contents server (700) is to be handed over to a target node (300), the UE firstly transfers information (session HO information) necessary to the session handover to the target node (Step S1001). The target node performs authentication processing with an authentication server (600) of the network to which the UE is connected and notifies the authentication server of the session HO information transferred from the UE (Step S1003). The authentication server performs authentication for the session handover based on the session HO information, and when the authentication succeeds, the session is handed over from the contents server to the target node, and the contents are distributed to the target node (Step S1005).

  • Patent number: 8886167
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique to enable a communication node to acquire predetermined newer information (e.g., configuration information) held by another communication node while minimizing power consumption by communication nodes. According to the technique, when receiving a request for configuration information from a new MTC device 100, a MME 220 checks whether an existing MTC device 110 as a request target for configuration information connects or not. When the existing MTC device does not connect, the new MTC device is notified of time information (e.g., next connection time of the existing MTC device, a next connection time of a new MTC device or a next connection time zone of the new MTC device). This time information enables the new MTC device to specify a time after the MME acquires and holds the configuration information from the existing MTC device. The new MTC device reconnects based on this time information, whereby the new MTC device can acquire desired configuration information from the MME.
