  • Patent number: 9307458
Abstract: A wireless communication device (WCD) may determine that the WCD has bearer traffic queued for transmission to a radio access network (RAN). The WCD may be configured to transmit the bearer traffic and neighbor reports over a reverse-direction channel of the RAN. The neighbor reports may contain information related to wireless coverage areas. One or more characteristics of the bearer traffic may also be determined. Based on the one or more characteristics of the bearer traffic, the neighbor reports may be scheduled to be transmitted over the reverse-direction channel at a particular rate. The WCD may transmit the neighbor reports over the reverse-direction channel at the particular rate.

  • Patent number: 9307535
Abstract: A base station that serves a plurality of wireless communication devices (WCDs) will group the WCDs into physical hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) channel (PHICH) groups based on channel quality reported by the WCDs and will then differentially allocate transmission power among the PHICH groups, so as to provide higher transmission power for transmission to PHICH groups of WCDs that reported lower channel quality, while providing lower transmission power for transmission to PHICH groups of WCDs that reported higher channel quality.

  • Patent number: 9299320
Abstract: Techniques for providing visual feedback on a display of an electronic device by sequentially and/or independently controlling the illumination of the lighting output by the display. In some implementations, the techniques may be employed following an interaction with the device having one or more light source controllers instructing one or more light sources, such as Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), in a lighting apparatus, such as for a display which renders content on the device. For instance, a lightguide of the lighting apparatus may sequentially receive light from the one or more light sources as directed by the one or more light source controllers and may direct the light to provide illumination for a display. In some cases, the display may be a reflective display that is front-lit by the lighting apparatus. In other cases, the display may be a backlit display that is backlit by the lighting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 9301161
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining available downlink bandwidth are described. The described aspects may include estimating an available link capacity of a cell for a user equipment. The described aspects may include estimating an available fraction of cell resources for the user equipment. The described aspects may include estimating available bandwidth of the cell for the user equipment as a function of the estimated available link capacity and the estimated available fraction of cell resources. Available bandwidth may be estimated for a cell in a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) system when the user equipment is in an idle mode and/or a connected mode. Available bandwidth may be estimated for a cell in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) system when the user equipment is in an idle mode and/or a connected mode.

  • Patent number: 9301295
Abstract: In a wireless communication network, a network control system receives a request for a media session with a wireless communication device. The control system responsively determines if the wireless device is idle and determines if a source base station serving the wireless device can support the media session. If the wireless device is idle and the source base station does not support the media session, then the control system identifies a target base station to support the media session. The control system transfers a first redirect message for delivery to the wireless device through the source base station and transfers a second redirect message for delivery to the target base station. The redirect messages have session information for the media session. The target base station receives an acceptance of the media session from the wireless device and exchanges media for the media session responsive to the acceptance.

  • Publication number: 20160088670
Abstract: Systems and methods for continuous measurement of an analyte in a host are provided. The system generally includes a continuous analyte sensor configured to continuously measure a concentration of analyte in a host and a sensor electronics module physically connected to the continuous analyte sensor during sensor use, wherein the sensor electronics module is further configured to directly wirelessly communicate sensor information to one or more display devices. Establishment of communication between devices can involve using a unique identifier associated with the sensor electronics module to authenticate communication. Times tracked at the sensor electronics module and the display module can be at different resolutions, and the different resolutions can be translated to facilitate communication. In addition, the frequency of establishing communication channels between the sensor electronics module and the display devices can vary depending upon whether reference calibration information is being updated.

  • Patent number: 9294112
Abstract: A time-interleaved analog-to-digital converter (ADC) uses M sub-analog-to-digital converters (sub-ADCs) to, according to a sequence, sample an analog input signal to produce digital outputs. When the M sub-ADCs are interleaved, the digital outputs exhibit mismatch errors between the M sub-ADCs due to mismatches between the sub-ADCs. A more second order subtle effect is that the mismatch error for a particular digital output from a particular ADC, due to internal coupling or other such interaction and effects between the M sub-ADCs, can vary depending on which sub-ADC(s) were used before and/or after the particular sub-ADC. If M sub-ADCs are time-interleaved randomly, the mismatches between the M sub-ADCs become a function of the sub-ADC selection pattern in the sequence. The present disclosure describes mechanisms for measuring and reducing these order-dependent mismatches to achieve high dynamic range performance in the time-interleaved ADC.

  • Patent number: 9294413
Abstract: To address limitations of conventional packet buffer management strategies, the various embodiments provide methods implemented by a processor operating on a VoIP receiver device for managing media packet rejection logic on the receiving device to improve audio playout. The embodiment methods enhance the likelihood that a receiver device will buffer (rather than reject) an incoming media packet by maintaining a history of previously rejected media packets (i.e., a packet rejection history) and referencing the packet rejection history when determining whether to reject or to accept an incoming packet the receiver device has just received. Thus, the various embodiments may reduce gaps in playback by avoiding unnecessary packet rejections and may promote an overall increase in playout quality.

  • Patent number: 9295081
Abstract: An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) communication system and method to schedule transfers of first and second user communications between the FDM communication system and a Wireless Communication Device (WCD) are provided. The OFDM communication system in one example includes an OFDM scheduling system to process Quality-of-Service Class Identifiers (QCIs) and determine if the first user communication having a first QCI can be scheduled subsequently and if the second user communication having a second QCI can be scheduled in place of the first user communication, and if the first user communication can be scheduled subsequently and the second user communication should be scheduled in place of the first user communication, then schedule the second user communication in place of the first user communication. An OFDM transceiver wirelessly transfers the second user communication in place of the first user communication between the OFDM communication system and the WCD based on scheduling.

  • Patent number: 9292094
Abstract: The subject disclosure relates to annotating data based on gestures. Gestures include user interaction with a client device or client software. Gestures are tracked and associated with data. In an aspect, client context associated with a gesture is also tracked. The gestures are then employed to determine a global term to associate with the data. In an aspect, a look-up table comprising a pre-defined relationship between gestures and a global term can be employed. In another aspect, an inference component employ context information in conjunction with the tracked gestures to determine a global term to assign to data. After a global term is determined for data based on a gesture, an annotation file for the data can be created associating the data with the global term.

  • Publication number: 20160078485
Abstract: A targeting system based on a predictive targeting model based on observed behavioral data including visit data, user profile and/or survey data, and geographic features associated with a geographic region. The predictive targeting model analyzes the observed behavioral data and the geographic features data to predict conversion rates for every cell in a square grid of predefined size on the geographic region. The conversion rate of a cell indicates a likelihood that any random user in that cell will perform a targeted behavior.

  • Publication number: 20160078903
Abstract: A device may provide a video content item for display and receive a request to share the video content item with another device for a synchronized playing of the video content item by the device and the other device. The device may generate a stream of the video content item based on a point within the video content item currently played by the device and transmit the stream to the other device to synchronize playing of the video content item by the device and the other device. The device may obtain information identifying a particular point within the video content item currently played by the other device, determine a synchronization point, in the video content item, based on the obtained information, and update, based on the synchronization point, to synchronize the stream. The device may transmit the synchronized stream, to the other device, to re-synchronize playing of the video content item.
