  • Patent number: 8867502
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are described herein for applying precoding information updates at a user equipment (UE). The UE receives precoder information from a network component. The UE can them transmit packet data over a transmit time interval (TTI) of tow or more slots using transmit diversity. The UE updates the precoder for transmit diversity with the precoder information in a slot subsequent to the first slot in the TTI. The precoder information is applied to update the precoder at a slot boundary within the TTI.

  • Patent number: 8861477
Abstract: Described are various approaches for considering inter-base-station link congestion levels in connection with handoff of a mobile station when the source base station (or another entity) is able to select a target base station for handoff from among a plurality of base stations. In one aspect, the plurality of base stations are each communicatively linked via a respective inter-base-station link with the source base station serving the mobile station. The source base station (or another entity) selects the target base station from among the plurality of base stations based at least in part on a congestion level of each base station's respective inter-base-station link. The source base station then hands off the mobile station to the target base station.

  • Patent number: 8855686
Abstract: A method and system of paging a mobile station. In response to receiving a request to set up a communication with a mobile station, a radio network controller (RNC) may identify a last-known location of the mobile station. The RNC may then identify two or more paging areas based on the mobile station's last-known location. In turn, the RNC may determine an indication of traffic for each of the identified paging areas. For example, the RNC may determine an indication of traffic for a paging area by (a) determining a number of communication requests received by BTSs located in the paging area within a given time period, (b) determining a number of BTSs located in the paging area, and (c) dividing the number of communication requests by the number of BTSs. Thereafter, the RNC may page the mobile station in the identified paging area having the highest indication of traffic.

  • Patent number: 8850261
Abstract: Jobs submitted to a primary location of a service within a period of time before and/or after a fail-over event are determined and are resubmitted to a secondary location of the service. For example, jobs that are submitted fifteen minutes before the fail-over event and jobs that are submitted to the primary network before the fail-over to the second location is completed are resubmitted at the secondary location. After the fail-over event occurs, the jobs are updated with the secondary network that is taking the place of the primary location of the service. A mapping of job input parameters (e.g. identifiers and/or secrets) from the primary location to the secondary location are used by the jobs when they are resubmitted to the secondary location. Each job determines what changes are to be made to the job request based on the job being resubmitted.

  • Patent number: 8842643
Abstract: Exemplary methods and systems are disclosed herein that may help to prevent pages to the same mobile station from being repeatedly shed in order to send overhead messages. An exemplary method may involve a base station: (a) detecting a page-shedding event; (b) in response to detecting the page-shedding event, adjusting a maximum period between overhead-message transmissions; and (c) transmitting at least one overhead message according to the adjusted maximum period between overhead-message transmissions. A page-shedding event typically involves an overhead message being sent in a given paging-channel slot instead of a page that was previously scheduled for the given paging-channel slot. Preferably, in order that a page is not repeatedly shed in the same slot during the slot cycle, the maximum period between overhead-message transmissions may be adjusted such that the slot cycle duration is not a multiple of the maximum period.

Abstract: Systems and methods for continuous measurement of an analyte in a host are provided. The system generally includes a continuous analyte sensor configured to continuously measure a concentration of analyte in a host and a sensor electronics module physically connected to the continuous analyte sensor during sensor use, wherein the sensor electronics module is further configured to directly wirelessly communicate sensor information to one or more display devices. Establishment of communication between devices can involve using a unique identifier associated with the sensor electronics module to authenticate communication. Times tracked at the sensor electronics module and the display module can be at different resolutions, and the different resolutions can be translated to facilitate communication. In addition, the frequency of establishing communication channels between the sensor electronics module and the display devices can vary depending upon whether reference calibration information is being updated.

  • Patent number: 8843162
Abstract: Exemplary methods and systems are disclosed herein that may, among other benefits, help a mobile station to conserve power by intelligently determining how often to scan for incoming pages. An exemplary method may be carried out by a mobile station that has most-recently registered with a radio access network in a zone of last registration, and involves the mobile station (a) determining a location of the mobile station in relation to the zone of last registration, (b) using the location of the mobile station in relation to the zone of last registration as a basis for determining a scan period to wait between scans of the paging channel; and (c) periodically scanning the paging channel according to the determined scan period. Furthermore, an exemplary method may be carried out in order to conserve battery power when a mobile station determines that its battery power is low.

  • Publication number: 20140276346
Abstract: A shunt including an implantable housing having a proximal end and a distal end. A pressure sensitive valve is contained within the housing at a position between the proximal end and the distal end, and the pressure sensitive valve is capable of controlling a flow of fluid between the fluid inlet port and the fluid outlet port. The shunt further including a sensor assembly fluidly coupled to the pressure sensitive valve, wherein the sensor assembly is mechanically actuated and capable of detecting the flow of fluid through the pressure sensitive valve. A condition of the shunt can be detected by detecting a flow of fluid through the shunt and generating a signal indicative of a period of fluid flow through the implantable shunt based on the detecting. The signal can be output to an external device capable of determining, from the signal, whether the shunt is malfunctioning.
