  • Patent number: 8447318
Abstract: Multiple traffic channels may be assigned to a wireless communication device (WCD) at the beginning of the call in order to improve initial call quality. However, doing so when traffic channels are scarce can lead to traffic channel overuse. Therefore, methods, devices, and systems for assigning multiple traffic channels to a WCD based on traffic channel utilization are presented. During call establishment, a radio access network (RAN) may assign fewer traffic channels to a WCD when traffic channel utilization is high. On the other hand, the RAN may assign more traffic channels to the WCD when traffic channel utilization is low.

  • Publication number: 20130124625
Abstract: Equivalent concepts expressed across multiple domains are matched and associated with a metapage generated by a social networking system. User preferences expressed on multiple domains, represented as pages in a social networking system, may be organized by concept and shared with advertisers, third-party developers, and other users of the social networking system using the metapages generated for the concepts. Aggregated social information may be presented to users of the social networking system viewing a page associated with a metapage. Information presented on external websites may be used to link pages across multiple domains with a metapage generated on the social networking system, presenting the information on other external websites associated with the metapage as links on the pages associated with the metapage. Feedback from users may be used to include or exclude pages from being associated with a generated metapage.

  • Patent number: 8437781
Abstract: An access network may be maintaining data indicating which of its coverage areas have a short occupancy time. The access network may then conduct a first paging of an access terminal in each coverage area in a first set of coverage areas, the first set including a subset of coverage areas having a short occupancy time. Thereafter, the access network may determine that it has not received a response to the first paging from the access terminal during a first timeout period, which is preferably shorter than a predefined paging timeout period. In response, the access network may conduct a second paging of the access terminal in only each coverage area in the subset of coverage areas (i.e., the coverage area(s) in the first set of coverage areas that have the short occupancy time).

  • Patent number: 8437769
Abstract: A mobile station transmits a message by transmitting an access probe that includes the message preceded by a preamble. The mobile station selects the length of the preamble from among a first preamble length and a second preamble length. The second preamble length is greater than the first preamble length. The mobile station makes the selection based, at least in part, on the distance between the mobile station and the mobile station's primary base transceiver station (BTS). If the distance is greater than a threshold distance, the mobile station selects the second preamble length. If the distance is less than the threshold distance, the mobile station selects the first preamble length, provided that an idle handoff to a neighboring BTS that is more than the threshold distance away is unlikely.

  • Publication number: 20130111559
Abstract: A security trimming system disclosed herein uses intelligent caching of the security trimming information received from a security datastore. The security trimming system uses an access cache to store the security trimming information received from the access datastore together with other parameters associated with such security trimming information. Subsequently, in responding to a request for the security trimming information, the security trimming system uses the cached value of the security trimming information together with the other associated parameters to determine a response to the request from the content providers. In one implementation, if the other parameters associated with a particular security trimming information imply that the security trimming information in the cache is still valid, the cached security trimming information is used in the request response. Otherwise, a new request is sent to the security datastore for an updated value of the security trimming information.

  • Publication number: 20130103480
Abstract: A device is configured to receive, from a first mobile device of a first user of a group of users, information identifying a first location of the first mobile device and to receive, from a second mobile device of a second user of the group, a second location of the second mobile device. The device is further configured to determine a geographic area of a venue associated with a coupon. The device is also configured to match the coupon to the group when the first location and the second location are within the geographic area, and transmit information associated with the matched coupon to the first mobile device and the second mobile device. The group is organized by the first user or the second user for a plurality of users to receive coupons for a particular type of service associated with the matched coupon.

  • Publication number: 20130094471
Abstract: A method for maintaining IP context during an inter RAT handover of a UE between an eHRPD network and an LTE network may include delaying a transfer of an Internet Protocol context for at least one active packet data network until an IP address for an attach (PDN) Packet Data Network has been assigned and in the case where the Internet Protocol address for the Attach Packet Data Network is not assigned, initiating a detach operation from the LTE network without the user equipment losing the Internet Protocol context of the at least one active Packet Data Network.

  • Patent number: 8422577
Abstract: During a first time interval, an access point transmits orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals using a first cyclic prefix length. The access point receives a plurality of signal reports, such as Channel Quality Indicators (CQIs), from user devices being served by the access point. Based on the signal reports, the access point determines a distribution of signal qualities experienced by the user devices. The access point selects a second cyclic prefix length based, at least in part, on the distribution of signal qualities. The access point transmits OFDM signals using the second cyclic prefix length during a second time interval.

  • Patent number: 8418132
Abstract: A method and system for creating and modifying computer applications using an application description language based on a markup language is provided. An engine creates, connects, and initializes objects corresponding to entities, and specified by entity tags. A factory may be specified by an entity tag and used to create a plurality of entities. Applications are specified in a plaintext descriptive language using a markup language such as XML, enabling applications to be easily developed using object oriented techniques and abstraction. Altering preexisting applications is also simplified. Finally, an application may be dynamically reconfigured when the application's data changes. Type checking and conditional creation of entities is supported.

  • Publication number: 20130086529
Abstract: User interface state (UI) information (such as UI control values) are stored and revived when the user navigates and returns to an application. When an instance of a page is created, the page registers with a tombstone list and indicates which page state information on the page is to be stored and revived when a user navigates away from the application. When the user provides an input indicating navigation away from the application, the application accesses the tombstone list and stores the UI page state information. UI page state information is stored in a page state dictionary data structure that corresponds to the current instance of the page. Then, when the user navigates back to the application, the application accesses the page state dictionary and restores the values of the UI page state information so that the user interface display is in the same state as when the user navigated away from the application.

  • Patent number: 8412258
Abstract: Methods and systems for adjusting a transmit power of a forward link or reverse link signal make use of variable adjustment parameters. The wireless signal is received to obtain a received signal. An observed signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and an observed frame error rate (FER) for the received signal are determined. In an outer loop process, an adjustment increment is selected based on how much the observed FER differs from the target FER, and the target SNR is adjusted by the adjustment increment. In an inner loop process, a power adjustment command is selected based on a comparison between the observed SNR and a target SNR. The power adjustment command instructs the transmitter of the wireless signal to either increase or decrease the transmit power of the wireless signal. The power adjustment increment may also depend on the observed FER.
