  • Publication number: 20090083186
Abstract: A mechanism for transmitting metadata that contain identifying characteristics of advertisements to be inserted, details of an advertisement-spot, and targeted viewing group details as in-content descriptors to a mobile handset is disclosed. Tight synchronization and control of the display of advertisements within an advertisement-spot during wireless content transmission is thus provided.

  • Publication number: 20090070217
Abstract: A system and method thereof for the delivery of focused alternate content and advertisements to mobile devices that selectively targets groups in a bandwidth limited multicast wireless video transmission. The limited wireless bandwidth does not allow multiple focused alternate content to be transmitted during allowed spot time to effectively cover all the target groups. Thus, the invention enables the pre-delivery and selective buffering of alternate content files on a mobile device for each target group. Accordingly, one embodiment of the invention enables viewing of targeted advertisements and alternate content by the target groups by attaching metadata to the targeted advertisements that contain instructions for filtering and insertion into a video stream.

  • Publication number: 20090048905
Abstract: Targeted advertising is one of the major attractions of wireless handheld devices since it lends itself to focused delivery of advertisements to target groups selected based on multiple criteria. To do this it is necessary to identify the target groups from the large number of personal profile criteria that includes user profiles, demographics, response preferences, as well as the history of responses, and generating advertisements for each such group. The advertisements have to take into account the preferences of the group and the objective of the advertisement campaign. In one embodiment of the invention, target groups are identified based on preferences to define and organize advertising campaigns, resulting in personalized advertisements.

  • Publication number: 20080052741
Abstract: Alternate digital content is inserted into mobile devices with a method and apparatus that comprises an alternate content scheduler, an alternate content reporter, and a micro-splicer. The alternate content scheduler further comprises a mobile network interface for interaction with a mobile data and broadcast network, a micro-splicer interface for interfacing with a micro-splicer, a rulebook that is shared with the network which provides the rules for alternate content scheduling, a preference provisioning module comprising an alternate content scheduler library for storing user or network preferences, a scheduler for providing tight synchronization between original program content and alternate content, and a metric recording interface to an alternate content reporter. The micro-splicer works in tandem with the alternate content scheduler to render synchronized display of alternate multimedia content on the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20080051070
Abstract: Use of alternate digital content in connection with mobile devices is recorded and reported. An exemplary embodiment comprises an alternate content reporter module on the mobile device that works alongside an alternate content scheduler and a micro-splicer. The alternate content reporter also comprises a mobile network interface for interaction with a mobile data and broadcast network, an alternate content scheduler interface for enabling the recording of consumption and interruptions in consumption, a rulebook that provides rules for alternate content reporting, and a preference provisioning module comprising an alternate content reporter library for storing network preferences for reporting to access networks.

  • Publication number: 20080040743
Abstract: In a targeted advertising system focused advertisements or alternate content is pre-stored on a handheld device, inserted into a multimedia stream at predefined times and points in the content stream for a predefined interval, otherwise referred to as a spot. A micro-splicer, instantiated on a handheld device, enables alternate content insertion into a content buffer, instead of the multicast original content stream, at available advertisement spots during content viewing. The alternate content for the target audience can be downloaded and stored on a handheld device prior to the arrival of the content stream. The micro-splicer uses metadata, transmitted within the content stream or notified by other means, to identify the correct alternate content and insert it into the correct spot for reproduction on the handheld device.
