  • Patent number: 6917019
Abstract: Heating of a functional unit is started by a control device. An actual temperature or a parameter dependent on the actual temperature is monitored during, and optionally before and after the actual heating of the functional unit. A characteristic feature of the time course of the actual temperature or of the parameters dependent on the heating temperature, which determines the phase transition of water, serves for the evaluation and control of the heating. Analysis of the characteristic features is used to control the heating power of the heating elements. Threshold values and further factors such as proportionality factors for the controller, for example, are determined depending upon significant characteristics. The threshold values and factors are also particularly used for a subsequent starting of the heating using the corresponding analysis and control.

  • Publication number: 20050080825
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for updating a remote data base with sets of data of a master data base system. The sets of data are forwarded to an intermediate data base, and the intermediate data base and the remote data base system are coupled by means of a synchronisation protocol. The protocol ensures, that the remote data base is reliably updated, wherein said master data base and said intermediate data base are logically independent data bases each part of a unique data base system controlled by a unique data base management, and also to master data base system therefore.

  • Patent number: 6837758
Abstract: A fast military surface craft, particularly a frigate or a corvette, includes at least two electric rudder propeller drives, whereby the electric ruder propeller drive is placed at a cruising speed. The electric energy for the rudder propeller of the electric rudder propeller drives is generated by way of fuel cell units distributed in a de-centralized manner in the ship. At least two, preferably electric, hydrojets are provided with underwater hydrojet exit nozzles to enable the craft to travel at high speeds, whereby the electric energy of the hydrojets is produced, by generators.

  • Patent number: 6773053
Abstract: A method for adjusting a window glass of a motor vehicle, with anti-trap protection, in particular on a cabriolet or coupe, with a motor-driven and electronically controlled adjustment mechanism. In a partly open position of the window glass a gap exists between a side edge of the glass and an adjacent glass edge of a further window glass, or of a chassis component, for example, the pillar of a door frame. The gap is closed on closing the window glass by [means of a] movement in the Z- and X-axes. The window glass moves essentially vertically (in the Z-axis), on going from the at least partly opened position to an almost completely closed glass position, while maintaining a vertical gap, between the side edge of the glass and an adjacent sealing edge of a further window glass or a chassis component and, in the last phase of the closing process, an essentially horizontal displacement (in the X-axis) and/or a rotary movement of the window glass occurs about the transverse axis (Y-axis).

  • Patent number: 6766616
Abstract: An opening flap comprises a frame and a flap articulated thereto. A lift arm is provided, which is articulated by a principal energy accumulator. A secondary energy accumulator is articulated between the lift arm and the flap. • Publication number: 20040094529
Abstract: Heating of the functional unit is started manually or automatically by means of a control device. An actual temperature or a parameter dependent on the actual temperature is monitored during, and optionally before and after the actual heating of the functional unit. Depending on the environmental conditions, such as air temperature or heat transfer resistance the dynamics of the values, thus the time-dependence of the parameters can vary widely. A characteristic feature of the time course of the actual temperature or of the parameters dependent on the heating temperature, which determines the phase transition of water, serves for the evaluation and control of the heating. One characteristic feature is, for example, the speed of cooling of the functional unit during a heating pause. Analysis of the characteristic features is used to control the heating power of the heating elements.

  • Publication number: 20040061266
Abstract: A compression spring comprises a casing with a piston that is mounted on a piston rod being disposed for displacement therein. Two sectional casing chambers are provided in the casing, which are filled with pressure fluid and at least one of which is defined by the piston. A controllable first valve interconnects the sectional casing chambers in an open position and blocks the compression spring in a shut-off position. By way of an additional automatic valve between the sectional casing chambers, the compression spring, even when blocked, can be adjusted in the piston-rod push-out direction by a force being applied that is comparable to the push-out force that works in the push-out direction by the pressure of the pressure fluid. This provides for greater flexibility in use of the compression spring.

  • Patent number: 6704481
Abstract: The invention is a cable assembly in which the ripcord is bonded or woven to the cable assembly's armor tape. This arrangement helps to prevent the ripcords from moving from their initial position, therefore allowing better dissection of a cable sheath and/or jacket. The cable assembly includes a cable core (e.g., soft buffer tubes surrounding optical fibers), a tape surrounding the cable core, at least one ripcord attached to the tape, and a cable jacket surrounding the tape. In a second embodiment of the present invention, a cable assembly includes a cable core having a predetermined axial length, a cable jacket for housing the cable core along the predetermined axial length of the cable core, and a ripcord disposed between the cable core and the cable jacket along the predetermined axial length, in a manner that the ripcord is contained within the predetermined axial length, but the ripcord has a length substantially longer that the predetermined axial length.

  • Patent number: 6483971
Abstract: An optical-fiber cable includes an assembly of buffer tubes including at least two flexible buffer tubes that are held together compactly by adhesion to one another. The cable further includes a plurality of optical fibers, which are housed within the buffer tubes, a jacket surrounding the assembly of buffer tubes, and at least one longitudinal strength member that is provided at the periphery of the assembly of buffer tubes. According to one aspect, the jacket is formed of polyethylene, the buffer tubes are formed of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) or a thermoplastic elastomer possessing flexible diol segments, and the buffer tubes are contained within the jacket in a helical or SZ stranding configuration. According to a second aspect, a fiber optic buffer tube includes low and high melting point materials forming domains and a matrix, respectively, and preferably further includes a filler. The domains are embedded in the matrix. The latter buffer tubes are bonded together by thermal activation of the domains.

  • Patent number: 6472836
Abstract: A method and apparatus for electrically controlling and regulating the movement of an electrically operated aggregate of a motor vehicle, such as a window lifter or sliding roof. A correlation variable for the adjustment force of the aggregate is measured for the purpose of anti-jamming protection. An adjusting movement is switched off or reversed if the adjustment force exceeds a limit value which corresponds to the maximum permissible jamming force. The sensitivity of the anti-jamming system is automatically raised when the motor vehicle is at a standstill. A rough road filter is preferably deactivated so that in the event of jamming, an adjusting movement is switched off or reversed without any time delay. The highest possible level of safety is provided using anti-jamming protection when the vehicle is at a standstill.
