  • Publication number: 20190191035
Abstract: A method and a radio network node, a method and a core network node as well as a method and a charging node for enabling management of a traffic steering policy are disclosed. The radio network node receives, from the core network node, an indication of the traffic steering policy indicating one or more access resources and at least one of a PDN connection, a packet flow and a bearer to use on the one or more access resources. Furthermore, the radio network node determines to steer traffic. radio network node transmits access information to the core network node. The access information indicates a currently used access resource for the PDN connection, the packet flow or the bearer. The core network node transmits the access information. The charging node determines an amount of traffic for the PDN connection, packet flow or bearer on the currently used access resource.

  • Publication number: 20190082417
Abstract: According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of paging policy differentiation in a 5G telecommunications network is provided. A User Plane Function (UPF) receives downlink data for a target User Equipment (UE), and provides a data notification to a Session Management Function (SMF), the data notification comprising a Quality of Service (QoS) indicator, which the SMF uses to determine QoS Information (QoSI) that is sent to an Access Management Function (AMF). The AMF determines whether a paging policy selection should be performed by the AMF or by a Radio Access Node (RAN) that serves the target UE: if by the AMF, the AMF selects a paging policy based on the QoSI and sends a paging message to the RAN, which pages the UE; if by the RAN, the AMF provides paging policy information to the RAN, which selects a paging policy and pages the UE accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20190014550
Abstract: Systems and methods relating to a cellular communications system having an architecture in which Serving Gateway (SGW) user plane functionality is separated from SGW control plane functionality are disclosed. In some embodiments, a cellular communications system having an architecture in which SGW user plane functionality is separated from SGW control plane functionality comprises a Serving Gateway Control plane entity (SGW-C) partitioned into a plurality of virtual SGW-Cs that correspond to a respective plurality of SGW User Plane (SGW-UP) service areas. The cellular communications system further comprises a plurality of SGW-UP pools each comprising one or more SGW User entities (SGW-Us), wherein each SGW-UP pool serves a respective one of the plurality of SGW-UP service areas. In this manner, the coordination problem between Tracking Areas (TAs) and the SGW-UP service areas is avoided.

  • Patent number: 10136374
Abstract: A method for controlling IP flow mobility is performed in a communication network comprising 3GPP and non-3GPP access networks, wherein a UE has an IP flow mobility PDN connection set up towards the communication network. The method comprises triggering sending to the UE, a number of IP flow specific RAN assistance parameter values for controlling the UE to route an IP flow of the IP flow mobility PDN connection either over the 3GPP access network or the non-3GPP access network. The IP flow specific RAN assistance parameters may be threshold parameters setting a limit for when to route an IP flow to the 3GPP access network or when to route the IP flows to the non-3GPP access network.

  • Publication number: 20180262465
Abstract: A wireless communication device (12) served by a wireless wide area network (WWAN) base station supports per-bearer switching of bearer traffic between the WWAN and a wireless local area network (WLAN) in a manner transparent to the WLAN. The device in this regard establishes a secure tunnel (24) through the WLAN to a security gateway (22), based on the device receiving a message from the WWAN base station (18) to establish the secure tunnel (24). The device switches bearer traffic between the WWAN and the WLAN on a per bearer basis, with bearer traffic switched to the WLAN being transported through the secure tunnel (24) and over a connection (26) between the security gateway (22) and the WWAN base station (18).

  • Patent number: 10009830
Abstract: A first network node controls WLAN accesses and a second network node controls cellular network accesses. The first network node (NN) records a time of a last radio contact event of a user equipment (UE) with respect to a WLAN access controlled by the first NN. In response to a request from a third NN, the first NN indicates the recorded time of the last radio contact event to the third NN. The second NN records a time of a last radio contact event of the UE with respect to a cellular network access controlled by the second NN. In response to a request from the third NN, the second NN indicates the recorded time of the last radio contact event to the third NN. The third NN can use the indicated times to determine whether the UE is attached to a WLAN access or to a cellular network access.

  • Patent number: 9998957
Abstract: A method in a communication network for facilitating handover of a user equipment (UE) from access via a source access path to access via a target access path is provided. An internet protocol (IP) access is provided to the UE via the source access path and an indication that the UE has configured a communication interface for the target access path is obtained. Switching from providing IP access via the source access path to providing IP access to the UE via the target access path is performed. Further, instructions for releasing communication resources for the source access path are sent after the indication that the communication interface has been configured for the target access path is obtained.

  • Patent number: 9998569
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling Multipath Transmission Control Protocol, MPTCP, signaling in a communications network. The communications network includes a first node hosting an MPTCP proxy function, and a second node in a second access network. The second node receives from a mobile terminal an attachment request. The second node then sends a message to a remote database and receives a response, the response including an identity of the first node. An MPTCP data path can then be redirected from the second access network to the MPTCP proxy function. Even in cases where the MPTCP proxy function is located at or between the PDN Gateway and the mobile terminal, the second access can be made aware of the location of the MPTCP proxy function and route MPTCP data traffic accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20180145982
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method performed by a PGW (108) for handling a UEs (101) access to an EPC service via a non-3GPP access network (103). During a request for connecting the UE (101) to the non-3GPP access network (103), the PGW (108) receives identity information which indicates an identity of an AAA node (710) from a non-3GPP access gateway (705). The PGW (108) selects the AAA node (710) which was indicated in the received identity information. The PGW (108) transmits, to the selected AAA node (710), a request message for the UE (101). The request message is a request for authorization of the UE (101) to access the EPC service via the non-3GPP access network (103).
