  • Patent number: 10554793
Abstract: A method performed in a source gateway logically positioned in a first wireless access network between a radio device and a first mobility anchor. The source gateway comprises an MTCP proxy for a TCP flow between the device and a peer comprising at least two subflows between the device and the source gateway, including a first subflow over the first network and a second subflow over a second wireless access network. The method comprises receiving uplink data of the second subflow from a second gateway logically positioned in the second network between the device and a second mobility anchor, sending downlink data of the second subflow to said second gateway, moving the proxy from the source gateway to a target gateway logically positioned in the first network between the device and the first mobility anchor, as part of a handover of the radio device, forwarding downlink data to the target gateway, and forwarding the received uplink data of the second subflow to the target gateway.

  • Publication number: 20190364420
Abstract: Systems and methods relating to establishment of a Packet Data Unit, PDU, session over a Non 3GPP Access to a 3GPP network and transmitting IP data and non-IP data are provided. A method of operation of a wireless device is provided and comprises sending to an AMF over an N3IWF a PDU session request to establish a PDU session to transport one of IP data or non-IP data over an established first IPsec, Security Association, SA, establishing an IPSec Child SA, for the PDU session and associating the IPSec Child SA to a PDU session then encapsulating the data using ESP encapsulation or GRE encapsulation associated with the IPSec Child SA and indicating the type of data that is being transmitted (e.g., non-IP data that comprises raw application data). In this manner, an IoT device is able to securely transmit to the 3GPP network IP data/non-IP data/raw application data over an unsecure non 3GPP access network such as Wireless Local Area Network.

  • Patent number: 10454686
Abstract: A core network node identifies a non-USIM based authentication procedure to be utilized by a wireless communication device, WCD, being served by the core network node. The node obtains a session key associated with the identified non-USIM based authentication procedure. The node converts the session key associated with the identified non-USIM based authentication procedure to i) a first key, K1, for use by the WCD and a base station serving the WCD to derive an encryption or integrity protection key, Kenc/int, for enabling encryption or integrity protection of a communication between the WCD and the base station or ii) a second key, K2, for use by the WCD and the core network node to derive the first key K1. The node then send i) K1 to the base station or ii) K2 to another core network node that is configured to derive K1 from K2.

  • Publication number: 20190082417
Abstract: According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a method of paging policy differentiation in a 5G telecommunications network is provided. A User Plane Function (UPF) receives downlink data for a target User Equipment (UE), and provides a data notification to a Session Management Function (SMF), the data notification comprising a Quality of Service (QoS) indicator, which the SMF uses to determine QoS Information (QoSI) that is sent to an Access Management Function (AMF). The AMF determines whether a paging policy selection should be performed by the AMF or by a Radio Access Node (RAN) that serves the target UE: if by the AMF, the AMF selects a paging policy based on the QoSI and sends a paging message to the RAN, which pages the UE; if by the RAN, the AMF provides paging policy information to the RAN, which selects a paging policy and pages the UE accordingly.

Abstract: Systems and methods relating to a cellular communications system having an architecture in which Serving Gateway (SGW) user plane functionality is separated from SGW control plane functionality are disclosed. In some embodiments, a cellular communications system having an architecture in which SGW user plane functionality is separated from SGW control plane functionality comprises a Serving Gateway Control plane entity (SGW-C) partitioned into a plurality of virtual SGW-Cs that correspond to a respective plurality of SGW User Plane (SGW-UP) service areas. The cellular communications system further comprises a plurality of SGW-UP pools each comprising one or more SGW User entities (SGW-Us), wherein each SGW-UP pool serves a respective one of the plurality of SGW-UP service areas. In this manner, the coordination problem between Tracking Areas (TAs) and the SGW-UP service areas is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20180262465
Abstract: A wireless communication device (12) served by a wireless wide area network (WWAN) base station supports per-bearer switching of bearer traffic between the WWAN and a wireless local area network (WLAN) in a manner transparent to the WLAN. The device in this regard establishes a secure tunnel (24) through the WLAN to a security gateway (22), based on the device receiving a message from the WWAN base station (18) to establish the secure tunnel (24). The device switches bearer traffic between the WWAN and the WLAN on a per bearer basis, with bearer traffic switched to the WLAN being transported through the secure tunnel (24) and over a connection (26) between the security gateway (22) and the WWAN base station (18).

  • Patent number: 10009830
Abstract: A first network node controls WLAN accesses and a second network node controls cellular network accesses. The first network node (NN) records a time of a last radio contact event of a user equipment (UE) with respect to a WLAN access controlled by the first NN. In response to a request from a third NN, the first NN indicates the recorded time of the last radio contact event to the third NN. The second NN records a time of a last radio contact event of the UE with respect to a cellular network access controlled by the second NN. In response to a request from the third NN, the second NN indicates the recorded time of the last radio contact event to the third NN. The third NN can use the indicated times to determine whether the UE is attached to a WLAN access or to a cellular network access.
