  • Publication number: 20110250093
Abstract: Method for the injection-molding production of a magazine having a plurality of chambers, separated by partition walls, including an outer wall formed by an outer wall of the magazine. The method uses a casting mold having an outer wall channel corresponding to the outer wall of the magazine, and partition wall channels corresponding to the partition walls, and a gate opening. A plurality of partition wall channels extend from the gate opening to the outer wall channel. The method comprises injecting a plastic compound into the gate opening. The plastic compound flows from the gate point to the partition wall channels into the outer wall channel. The plastic compound streams have a differing flow speed in alternating partition wall channels so a joint line, which is aligned with a partition wall channel, forms on the outer side of the outer wall channel.

  • Patent number: 7562444
Abstract: A CPU cooling assembly includes a copper cold plate in which a pattern of ultra thin fins and channels are formed, and a copper manifold-cover in which a series of alternating inlet and outlet channels are formed, at right angles to the fin pattern. The manifold cover is sealed to the cold plate by a resistance welding technique that melts and closes up a perimeter welding seam just as the bottom edges of the manifold channels lightly engage the top edges of the micro fins. The result is a fully sealed assembly in which the channels and fins form an effective, very finely divided and regular checker board flow pattern for a suitable cooling fluid, with no deformation or clogging of the ultra thin flow channels.

  • Publication number: 20090078396
Abstract: The invention provides for an orientation insensitive heat exchanger assembly for cooling an electronic device comprising a hermetically sealed housing defining a boiling chamber and two condensing chambers. A partition is disposed in the boiling chamber and defines two sets of alternating channels extending in overlapping relationship to one another and with one set of alternating channels open to one of the condensing chambers and the other set of alternating channels open to the other condensing chamber for sealing the condensing chambers from one another. Coolant is maintained in each of the condensing chambers. In operation, if the thermosiphon is tilted with one side lower than the other, the channels open to the lower side are empty of coolant into the lower condensing chamber while the channels open to the opposite upper side hold the coolant over the entire boiling chamber aligning with an electronic device to continue cooling.

  • Publication number: 20080301941
Abstract: The subject invention provides a method of manufacturing an all-metal cold plate heat exchanger assembly for removing excess heat from a heat generating electronic component. The cold plate assembly includes a base plate having micro-channels and associated micro-fins, a manifold plate having alternating channels, and a manifold cover, wherein the manifold plate cooperates with the micro-channels to form an engineered pathway for coolant flow. This method assures a tight interface sealing between the contact surfaces of the alternating channels of the manifold plate and the coplanar surfaces of the micro-fins that would prevent coolant by-pass flow, but without clogging or jeopardizing the flow through the micro-channels. This method utilizes a layer of recast metallic particulates, which is a natural by-product of laser machining, as a compliant gasket material between the coplanar edges of the alternating channels and the coplanar edges of the micro-fins.

  • Publication number: 20080247874
Abstract: A cooling system includes a fan assembly that is rotated to move air in a primary path through a housing. The fan assembly includes a hub and a plurality of spaced reinforcing ribs that establish channels between a motor casing and the interior of the hub. A heat sink assembly is axially spaced from a hub bottom to define an air cavity that is in communication with a gap. The hub includes a tube that defines an air passage to establish communication with the cavity. A plurality of air vanes extend in a spiral path from the hub bottom and into the air cavity to move air through the air passage and create turbulence over the heat sink assembly. The air vanes move the air over the heat sink assembly and through the air passage to establish communication between the channels and the air cavity.

  • Publication number: 20080229580
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of making a brazed micro-channel cold plate assembly for cooling a heat producing electronic component. The primary components of a cold plate assembly are a base plate, a manifold cover, and inlet/outlet pipes; wherein the individual components are assembled and brazed into an integral unit. The joining surfaces of the individual components have novel features that provide for permanent bonding of the joints by brazing and a hermetic seal along the joint seams. The novel features also forestall excess braze alloy from contaminating the interior surfaces of the assembled cold plate and obstructing the engineered flow channels.
