  • Publication number: 20130014118
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for ensuring that multiple producer threads may simultaneously write entries in a shared queue and one or more consumers may read valid data from the shared queue. Additionally, writing of the shared queue by the multiple producer threads may occur in parallel and the one or more consumer threads may read the shared queue while the producer threads write the shared queue. A “wait-free” mechanism allows any producer thread that writes a shared queue to advance an inner pointer that is used by a consumer thread to read valid data from the shared queue.

  • Patent number: 8346574
Abstract: A tangible computer-readable storage device storing computer-executable program instructions that generate a user interface for displaying workflow information associated with a tissue specimen in a pathology laboratory. The program instructions may be configured to perform a method including displaying a virtual laboratory component representing a physical pathology laboratory having one or more laboratory stations for processing the tissue specimen, wherein the tissue specimen is processed by the one or more laboratory stations according to a workflow, and displaying a specimen indicator that indicates a current specimen state based on a current relationship of the tissue specimen to the workflow.

  • Publication number: 20120331470
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for emitting coherent output from multiple threads for the printf( )function. Additionally, parallel (not divergent) execution of the threads for the printf( )function is maintained when possible to improve run-time performance. Processing of the printf( )function is separated into two tasks, gathering of the per thread data and formatting the gathered data according to the formatting codes for display. The threads emit a coherent stream of contiguous segments, where each segment includes the format string for the printf( )function and the gathered data for a thread. The coherent stream is written by the threads and read by a display processor. The display processor executes a single thread to format the gathered data according to the format string for display.

  • Patent number: 8319236
Abstract: A metallization on a semiconductor substrate is disclosed in the form of a laminate comprising a plurality of layers of a “conducting” metallization for providing electrical conductivity, interspersed with a plurality of layers of another metallization. By providing many layers the thickness of each individual layer can be reduced. Reduction in thickness of each layer leads to a reduction in grain size and a consequent reduction in creep over the lifetime of a device.

  • Publication number: 20120278186
Abstract: A method of tracking software application downloads over the internet in which clicking on a web advertisement for a software application causes a user's device web browser to link to a tracking server which creates a unique identifier which is stored by the user's device browser, and also on the tracking server together with an indication of the web page including the advertisement. The user's device web browser then downloads the desired software application which includes executable code which, upon first execution, suspends the downloaded application and starts the browser, directing it to the tracking server and sending the unique identifier to the tracking server together with identification of the device and downloaded software application. The tracking server then uses the unique identifier to correlate the information on the downloaded application with the information originally stored at the time of clicking on the web advertisement.

  • Publication number: 20110316562
Abstract: A linear capacitance displacement transducer (1) comprising first (2) and second (3) fixed capacitor plate and a dielectric structure (5) moveable longitudinally within a space (4) between the first (2) and second (3) capacitor plates, the dielectric structure (5) being operatively coupled to a moveable element (8). The capacitor plates and the dielectric material may be cylindrical and disposed coaxially and concentrically. The transducer (1) enables a displacement sensor that is capable of monitoring liquid levels in a syringe type drug reservoir (101) with sufficient sensitivity as to allow detection of erroneous drug delivery. The sensor is inexpensive to manufacture and provides reliable performance through robust design.

  • Patent number: 7967081
Abstract: Aspects of this invention include a downhole tool and method for making a physical caliper measurement of a subterranean borehole. The tool is configured to make the physical borehole caliper measurement only when the measured pressure in each of three or more outwardly extendable blades is greater than a predetermined threshold pressure. Blade positions are measured and the borehole caliper calculated only when the pressure in each of the blades exceeds the threshold. Exemplary embodiments of the invention enable physical caliper measurements to be made with increased accuracy with each of the blades making firm contact with the borehole wall. Methods in accordance with the invention are especially well suited for use in directional drilling applications in that they tend to enable accurate caliper measurements to be made without repositioning the steering tool in the borehole.

  • Patent number: 7967524
Abstract: A landscape edging member for use in defining borders of walks, patios, driveways and the like, is provided with edge lips on one side of a base wall, which serve as stops when one of the landscape edging members is inverted and nested with another landscape edging member, to prevent lateral shifting of the nested landscape edging members when they are placed in a stack or bundle. The lips of the nested landscape edging members overlap portions of the vertical walls of the other one of the two nested landscape edging members, which form an inverted pair of landscape edging members. The lips are high enough from the base wall to prevent lateral shifting of the nested pair when a stack of the landscape edging members are shipped.
