  • Patent number: 8186441
Abstract: A system and method to allow backup or alternate fluid flow routes around malfunctioning components using removable, modular component sets. In one exemplary embodiment, an ROV establishes a backup hydraulic flow to a BOP function by attaching one end of a hose to a modular valve block and the other end to an intervention shuttle valve, thus circumventing and isolating malfunctioning components. A compound intervention shuttle valve is provided that comprises first and second primary inlets, first and second secondary inlets, and an outlet. A modular valve block is provided that comprises a directional control valve, a pilot valve, a manifold pressure regulator, a pilot pressure regulator, stab type hydraulic connections and an electrical wet-make connection.

  • Patent number: 8161551
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for enabling communication between security systems. In use, a first communication protocol of a first security system and a second communication protocol of a second security system are identified, where the first communication protocol and the second communication protocol are different such that the first security system and the second security system are incapable of communicating therebetween. Further, the first security system is updated with a first security definition and/or the second security system is updated with a second security definition for enabling communication between the first security system and the second security system.

  • Publication number: 20120080430
Abstract: A cooking vessel with a selectively configurable condensation collector. In one configuration, the condensation collector collects condensation impeding it from reaching the content of the cooking vessel. In another configuration, condensation is allowed to reach the content of the cooking vessel. A movable reservoir can be configured to either be flush with the lid preventing condensation from reaching the reservoir or configured to form a gap between the reservoir wall and the lid so that condensation can collect in the reservoir. Alternatively, a condensation collector can be detachably connected to a cooking vessel lid so that when it is attached condensation collects and when it is detached condensation reaches the content of the vessel. Alternatively, a condensation collector can be permanently attached to a replacement cooking vessel lid that is swappable with a conventional cooking vessel lid.

  • Patent number: 8014314
Abstract: A digital subscriber link data network incorporates a throughput test server (TTS) to provide fault identification, isolation, and verification of DSL service availability and data rates. An asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) terminal unit-remote (ATU-R) is connected to an ADSL terminal unit-central office (ATU-C) over a conventional copper loop or equivalent. Data connectivity via a packet switch provides access to high speed data networks, TTS connectivity and interfaces to service providers (SPS). Upon receiving a test request, a technician routes a customer to the TTS. The customer uses a web browser to access the TTS and download executable testing software, e.g., a JAVA applet. The applet causes test messages to be sent to and received from the TTS and computes upstream and downstream data rates that is displayed to the customer together with whether the measured data rates are consistent with a specified class of service.

  • Patent number: 7824682
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a cDNA, protein sequence, and genomic structure of the human cardiac isoform of myosin light chain kinase (cMLCK), and describes mutations in the cMLCK gene that are associated with cardiac dysfunction. Methods are provided for identifying individuals who can harbor mutations in the cMLCK gene, or carry alleles that can predisposed them to cardiac dysfunction. Disclosed also is a significant role for cMLCK in modulating cardiac contractility. The cMLCK protein is shown herein to reduce the amplitude of stretch activation and increase the tension production, a property of muscle which has heretofore had an unknown role in cardiac contraction. Moreover, the cMLCK protein is shown to be regionally distributed in the heart, thereby having differential effects on contractility and stretch activation. Methods herein are provided to exploit this effect of cMLCK, to treat individuals who have or are prone to cardiac dysfunction.

  • Publication number: 20100139779
Abstract: A valve system enables use of a standard single line faucet with a water treatment system, protects water treatment systems and other fluid flow devices from unnecessary fluid pressure, and regulates or prevents fluid flow to a dispenser or outlet in response to a particular event, such as a leak. The valve system includes a housing having ports for: (1) receiving a supply fluid, (2) supplying the fluid to a device, such as a water treatment system, (3) receiving the fluid from the device and (4) supplying fluid to a dispenser. The valve system also includes an automatic shutoff device within the housing that prevents water from flowing into the housing and the water treatment system when the dispensing outlet is closed and that allows water to flow through the housing and into the water treatment system when the outlet is open. The valve system may also include a second actuator connected to the automatic shutoff that is capable of moving the automatic shutoff to a partially or fully closed position.
