  • Patent number: 10915855
Abstract: An on-demand ecosystem (ODE) computing device for integrating on-demand delivery services with purchase transactions is provided. The ODE computing device receives item data from a registered merchant, and receives availability data from at least one registered carrier. The ODE computing device further provides a searchable interface that enables a user to search for item data from the registered merchant, and receives a selected item from the user via the searchable interface. The selected item is offered for sale by the registered merchant and includes a selected pick-up location. The selected item is to be delivered to the user from the selected pick-up location. The ODE computing device also allows either the registered merchant or the user to select one of the at least one registered carriers, and processes a payment transaction for the selected item including an item price and a delivery fee.

  • Publication number: 20210011797
Abstract: Systems and methods for are provided for predicting impending failure of a database and preemptively initiating mitigating failover actions, for example by shedding connections or redirecting connection requests to an alternate database that can fulfill resources being requested. In an example embodiment, to detect a slow or unstable database, connection wait times are monitored over a rolling window of time intervals, a quantity of intervals in which at least one excessive wait time event occurred are counted during the time window, and if the quantity exceeds a threshold, the database is deemed unavailable, thereby triggering connection adjustments.

  • Publication number: 20210014302
Abstract: In a networked data system, a discovery protocol enables clients to establish connections to one a plurality of database servers to utilize a distributed connection service. The service manages connections between application servers, i.e. clients, and databases. An initial request from the client is received by a load balancer. The load balancer responds to the client by identifying an assigned connection to one of the database servers based on load considerations. The client sends a secondary request directly to the assigned connection, bypassing the load balancer. The service establishes a persistent link on the assigned connection and assigns a time-to-live (TTL), during which the service connects data requests to the databases. Upon expiration of the TTL, the service completes a next data request received, then notifies the client that the connection is no longer valid, thereby requiring a new connection through the load balancer and rebalancing system traffic.

  • Patent number: 10884184
Abstract: Bromine doping of silica glass is demonstrated. Bromine doping can be achieved with SiBr4 as a precursor. Bromine doping can occur during heating, consolidation or sintering of a porous silica glass body. Doping concentrations of bromine increase with increasing pressure of the doping precursor and can be modeled with a power law equation in which doping concentration is proportional to the square root of the pressure of the doping precursor. Bromine is an updopant in silica and the relative refractive index of silica increases approximately linearly with doping concentration. Bromine can be used as a dopant for optical fibers and can be incorporated in the core and/or cladding regions. Core doping concentrations of bromine are sufficient to permit use of undoped silica as an inner cladding material in fibers having a trench in the refractive index profile. Co-doping of silica glass with bromine and chlorine is also demonstrated.

  • Publication number: 20200403826
Abstract: Technologies are disclosed for monitoring network traffic using traffic mirroring. According to some examples, traffic mirroring allows customers to monitor traffic at different sources within a VPC. For example, a source may be any Elastic Network Interface (ENI) in their VPC, including elastic network interfaces (ENIs) on virtual machine instances, Network Address Translation (NAT) Gateways, Load Balancers, VPC endpoints, Internal Gateways, Transit Gateways, and more. Filters can be utilized to determine the network traffic to mirror. A customer may also configure to monitor real-time traffic with a monitoring appliance of their choice. With traffic mirroring, data traffic may be identified and sent to one or more target devices. Customers may monitor traffic within a VPC for content inspection, forensic analysis, troubleshooting, record keeping, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20200392034
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for processing optical fiber preforms are disclosed. According to one aspect, an apparatus generally includes a furnace body and a muffle disposed within the furnace body. A space between the muffle and the furnace body defines a first interior volume. The muffle defines a second interior volume sealed from the first interior volume. An annulus gas is supplied to the first interior volume and a process gas is supplied to the second interior volume. A differential pressure gauge is coupled to the interior volumes. A flow controller is coupled to at least one of the gas sources and to the differential pressure gauge. The flow controller receives a differential pressure signal from the differential pressure gauge and adjusts a flow of a gas such that the pressure differential between the first interior volume and the second interior volume is minimized.
