  • Patent number: 9916860
Abstract: A device for recording and/or reading data to and/or from a magnetic tape includes a read/write head which has a first device set including a first plurality of magnetic data write and/or read elements and a second device set including a second plurality of magnetic data write and/or read elements. The device also includes a lateral positioning actuator and an azimuth actuator. The lateral positioning actuator and azimuth actuator are used together to position both device sets on the magnetic tape. The lateral positioning actuator laterally positions the read/write head such that during write and/or read operations the first and second pluralities of magnetic data write and/or read elements align laterally to first and second pluralities of recordable and/or readable data tracks on the magnetic tape. The azimuth actuator rotates the read/write head about an azimuthal angle. such that the elements align to lateral spacings.

  • Patent number: 9863840
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing a multi-direction wind tunnel, or “windball,” are disclosed. The system can have a series of fans configured to provide air flow in a plurality of directions to enable accurate testing of aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and other vehicles capable of multi-dimensional flight. The system can comprise a spherical or polyhedral test chamber with a plurality of fans. The fans can be arranged in pairs, such that a first fan comprises an intake fan and a second fan comprises an exhaust fan. The direction of the air flow can be controlled by activating one or more pairs of fans, each pair of fan creating a portion of the air flow in a particular direction. The direction of the air flow can also be controlled by rotating one or more pairs of fans with respect to the test chamber on a gimbal device, or similar.

  • Patent number: 9786187
Abstract: A transportation network is provided that utilizes autonomous vehicles (e.g., unmanned aerial vehicles) for identifying, acquiring, and transporting items between network locations without requiring human interaction. A travel path for an item through the transportation network may include a passing of the item from one autonomous vehicle to another or otherwise utilizing different autonomous vehicles for transporting the item along different path segments (e.g., between different network locations). Different possible travel paths through the transportation network may be evaluated, and a travel path for an item may be selected based on transportation factors such as travel time, cost, safety, etc., which may include consideration of information regarding current conditions (e.g., related to network congestion, inclement weather, etc.). Autonomous vehicles of different sizes, carrying capacities, travel ranges, travel speeds, etc.

  • Patent number: 9286776
Abstract: A covert surveillance system for automatically determining the presence and patterns of presence of machines and especially, persons, whose identities may be unknown, sending messages with links for viewing live video and video recorded at the times of past presences, and assisting in the identification of those persons. Video is provided by one or more surveillance cameras and recording devices to assist in visually identifying the bearer of WiFi-equipped mobile devices. A computing device receives WiFi probes from mobile devices, especially smartphones, and forms and sends users messages with the identities of the computing device and mobile device, and links to a Cloud-based, video-aware portal for viewing relevant live and recorded video. The computing device processes WiFi information as it receives it, organizes and records WiFi probes in a manner that facilitates rapid searching, and determines which mobile device signatures, aka WiFi MAC addresses, satisfy criteria for sending messages.

  • Publication number: 20150345907
Abstract: An anti-sniper targeting system where a spherical omni-directional depth stereoscopic multi-lens camera, a radar (e.g., LIDAR), and microphone identify, detect, and determine target positions and bearings, detect target weapon flash, detect glint, track bullet trajectory, coordinate, track, share, and assign targets. Target bearings and ranges are determined by sound and heat signature detection from an infrared camera, from glint, and radar to rapidly position a fire control arm with a camera onto assigned targets rapidly from calculations on target positions and optimal trajectory. It may account for firing corrections due to target range and wind effects using wind sensors, terrain data, pressure, temperature, and earth curvature accommodating for bullet trajectory over large ranges. It can be an offensive sniper system whereby a target is locked in spite of movements, such as from a vehicle using stabilizing gyros and accelerometers, image processing, or sensor data to adjust for movements.

  • Publication number: 20150282061
Abstract: A network for providing mobile personnel safety status includes a safety pendant including hardware configured to provide pendant communication modes for transmitting a status message. A most costly pendant communication mode is selected when no other communication mode is available and a least costly pendant communication mode is selected whenever it is available. A messaging proxy device has hardware configured to provide one or more proxy communication modes for transmitting the status message. If the messaging proxy device provides more than one proxy communication mode, the messaging proxy device includes an algorithm for prioritizing the proxy communication modes according to availability and cost of transmission with selection of the most costly proxy communication mode when no other proxy communication mode is available and selection of the least costly proxy communication mode whenever it is available.
