  • Patent number: 7253789
Abstract: There is disclosed a dielectric resonator antenna adapted to resonate in an EH11? resonance mode, and also a method for the manufacture thereof. The desired resonance mode is achieved by careful positioning of a dielectric resonator (2) on a grounded substrate (1), the resonator (2) being fed by way of a microstrip feed line (9) and a slot (6) in the grounded substrate (1). Because the EH11? resonance mode has nulls in a direction of longitudinal extension of the dielectric resonator (2), a plurality of antenna can be placed end-to-end so as to form an array with reduced coupling between adjacent antennas and with vertical polarisation, which is desirable for mobile communications applications.

  • Patent number: 7075539
Abstract: A computing system has a graphics processor, a graphics memory, main memory, a bridge, and a central processing unit configured to process floating-point data of a first fixed size. An interconnect grid includes communication paths to link the graphics processor, the graphics memory, main memory, the bridge, and the central processing unit. A computing system component (e.g., the graphics processor or central processing unit) converts floating-point data to graphics floating-point data with a fixed size smaller than the fixed size of the floating-point data. The computing system passes the floating-point data and/or the graphics floating-point data over at least a portion of the interconnect grid. Alternately, the graphics processor may directly read and process previously compressed and stored graphics floating-point data.

  • Patent number: 7042416
Abstract: A multi-polarisation dielectric resonator antenna (1) having three mutually orthogonal feeds (5a, 5b, 5c) displaying C3V point group symmetry is disclosed. The antenna (1) may be operated so as to determine the polarisation of any incoming signal, since the three feeds (5a, 5b, 5c) have polarisations at 120 degrees to each other. Furthermore, a plurality of mult dielectric resonator antennas (1) may be formed into a composite dielectric resonator antenna with beamsteering, direction feeding and polarisation detection capability over a full 4? streradians.

  • Patent number: 6898036
Abstract: A system and method for recovering from write errors during writing of a moving storage medium suspend write current while allowing the storage medium to continue moving. The system and method continue to format data for writing while the write current is suspended and resequence the data for subsequent storage. Information is recorded to distinguish previously written data from current data with error correction pointers adjusted accordingly. Write errors may be detected in a track following streaming tape system based on data errors from a read back check or based on positioning errors of a read/write head servo system, for example. By allowing the storage medium to continue moving through the error event, the system and method improve speed, capacity utilization, and throughput of the storage and retrieval process.

  • Patent number: 6888874
Abstract: A laser diode system is provided. The laser comprises first and second reflective gratings at each end of the laser. The laser further comprises an outcoupling grating between the first and second reflective gratings, wherein the outcoupling grating couples light out of the laser. The reflectors and outcoupling grating each have a unique wide-band reflective spectrum. A first laser cavity exists between the first and second reflective gratings. A second laser cavity exists between the first reflective grating and the outcoupling grating. A third laser cavity exists between the second reflective grating and the outcoupling grating, and a fourth laser cavity exists with in the outcoupling region. The overlap of reflective spectra determine the lasing wavelengths that reach resonance within each cavity. Wavelengths resonant in one cavity are suppressed in the others unless a wavelength is resonant in all cavities. This matching of mode intensities causes the outcoupled beam to be confined to a single wavelength.

  • Patent number: 6836239
Abstract: A method for displaying horizontally aligned characters on a radial display is disclosed. Each range bin for each scan line is associated with a rectangular grid location to determine the character located in the grid location and the background color and foreground color for the grid location. A font matrix corresponding to the appropriate character is then used to determine if the range bin corresponds to one of the pixels that make up the character or if the range bin corresponds to a background pixel. This determines if the range bin is assigned the foreground color or background color. The method is done for each range bin value and for each scan line. The range bin and scan line information is sent to a display.
