  • Patent number: 9223578
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for coalescing memory barrier operations across multiple parallel threads. Memory barrier requests from a given parallel thread processing unit are coalesced to reduce the impact to the rest of the system. Additionally, memory barrier requests may specify a level of a set of threads with respect to which the memory transactions are committed. For example, a first type of memory barrier instruction may commit the memory transactions to a level of a set of cooperating threads that share an L1 (level one) cache. A second type of memory barrier instruction may commit the memory transactions to a level of a set of threads sharing a global memory. Finally, a third type of memory barrier instruction may commit the memory transactions to a system level of all threads sharing all system memories. The latency required to execute the memory barrier instruction varies based on the type of memory barrier instruction.

  • Patent number: 9212901
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for performing wavefront-based and profile-based measurements of an aspheric surface are disclosed. The apparatus includes an interferometric wavefront measurement system that collects wavefront-based measurement data of the aspheric surface. The apparatus also includes a profile measurement system that performs at least one non-contact profile-based measurement of the aspheric surface to collect profile-based measurement data of the aspheric surface. The measurements are performed without removing the aspheric element from a rotatable base. The two measurements are then used to form a combined measurement of the aspheric surface.

  • Patent number: 9141956
Abstract: A system that supports multi-stage transactions through the use of biometric tokens, such as fingerprint images or iris scans. A user pre-stages a transaction by providing transaction details that can be used a later time to complete the transaction, and the system stores the transaction details in a transaction record that is identified by a biometric token captured from the user. In some systems, the biometric token is captured as part of the pre-staging process. In other systems, the biometric token is retrieved from a data store after the user has provided authentication information, such as a bank card or user-identification code coupled with a secret PIN code. When the user is ready to complete the pre-staged transaction, the system captures a second biometric token from the user and matches the second token to the one identifying the user's transaction record. The transaction details contained in that transaction record are then used to complete the user's transaction.

  • Publication number: 20150251745
Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for controlling the flow of a fluid over the window of an optical instrument housing in a freestream flow field. For example, the flow upstream of the housing may be split to create a flow region over the window that is conducive to successful operation of the instrument. The flow region may be maintained for various rotations of the housing about yaw, pitch, and roll axes. The disclosed features in some embodiments induce flow regions with reduced spatial and temporal density gradients of the flow over the window.

  • Patent number: 9126792
Abstract: Coreless rolls of tissue, such as rolls of bath tissue or paper towels, are produced by winding tissue logs on a mandrel having retractable pins. During winding, the pins extend and penetrate the first several windings of the log as it is initially wound, which prevents slippage. After the winding is complete, the pins retract to allow the tissue log to slide off of the mandrel for subsequent slitting into individual product rolls and packaging. The penetration of the pins into the first several windings of the log tends to mechanically entangle and structurally unify those windings to create a “soft core”. At the same time, the properties of the tissue sheets within the soft core are the same as the other sheets within the roll and are therefore usable by the consumer.
