  • Publication number: 20120105834
Abstract: Particular embodiments of the present disclosure relate systems and methods for evaluating visible light sources. According to one embodiment, a method of evaluating a visible light source including a semiconductor laser having a gain section, a wavelength selective section, and a phase section includes applying a gain drive signal to the gain section of the semiconductor laser at a gain modulation frequency, and applying a triangular wave drive signal to the wavelength selective section of the semiconductor laser at a wavelength selective modulation frequency that is greater than the gain modulation frequency. The light source emits a plurality of optical output pulses. Output power values of the optical output pulses at a selected wavelength are detected. The output power value of one or more selected output pulses is compared with an output power threshold value to generate an indication of whether the visible light source satisfies an output power specification.

  • Patent number: 8166077
Abstract: A program product, apparatuses, and methods provide for the collection of profile information for a component of a software program by generating a data structure that maps at least one method to a component. The method includes a name, and the data structure maps the method to the component using at least a portion of the name of the method. A class or pattern may also be mapped to a component. Furthermore, during profiling, a statistic associated with the execution of the method is determined; the data structure is accessed using the name of the method to determine the associated component; and the determined statistic is associated with the determined component. By doing so, method level and class level information can be aggregated to improve profiling, often leading to a clearer picture of which components are contributing to the performance and memory footprint of large scale software programs.

  • Patent number: 8139216
Abstract: Methods of positioning an optical unit in an optical package are provided. According to one method, a partially assembled optical package is provided. The wavelength conversion device within the package comprises a conversion layer having a waveguide portion formed therein. The optical unit is coarse-positioned in the optical package to direct light from the laser diode to the wavelength conversion device in the form of a beam spot on an input face of the wavelength conversion device. The intensity of the frequency-converted optical signal output from the wavelength conversion device is monitored as the position of the optical unit is modified to 1D scan the beam spot along a portion of a crossing axis Y1 that crosses a planar projection of the conversion layer of the wavelength conversion device. Subsequently, the crossing axis Y1 is offset and the intensity monitoring step is repeated as the beam spot is 1D scanned along an offset crossing axis Y2.

  • Publication number: 20120020246
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, devices and methods for improving the efficient deployment and configuration of networking equipment within a network build-out. In certain embodiments of the invention, an iterative analysis of inter-node equipment placement and connectivity, and inter- and intra-node traffic flow is performed to identify a preferred deployment solution. This analysis of deployment optimization takes into account both configurations from a network node perspective as well as from a network system perspective. Deployment solutions are iteratively progressed and analyzed to determine a preferred solution based on both the cost of deployment and satisfaction of the network demands. In various embodiments of the invention, a baseline marker is generated from which the accuracy of the solution may be approximated that suggests to an engineer whether the deployment is approaching an optimal solution.

  • Publication number: 20110243552
Abstract: Optical autodiscovery is provide between two optical modules to insure that when an optical signal is coupled between the two optical module, the optical signal from a first module does not interfere with operation of a second module. The autodiscovery is implemented by sending an optical identification signal from the first optical module via the coupling to the second optical module from which signal, the second optical module can verify and determined acceptance of the coupled first optical module. During this autodiscovery process, the optical identification signal from the first optical module may be attenuated or shifted in optical spectrum so as not to interfere with the operation of the second optical module. Autodiscovery may also be employed in cases where a first optical module is to receive an optical signal from a second module.
