  • Publication number: 20040169457
Abstract: An electron emission device with nano-protrusions is described. Electrons are emitted from the nano-protrusions and directed by one or more conductors into beams. The beams may be shaped to be collimated, diverged, or converged. The shaped beams from one or more nano-protrusions may be focused onto a target spot through the use of additional electron optics.

  • Publication number: 20040088477
Abstract: A storage system that may include one or more memory devices, a memory interface device corresponding to one or more of the memory devices, which are organized in sections, and a section controller. In this system, a data request for the data may be received over a communications path by a section controller. The section controller determines the addresses in the memory devices storing the requested data, transfers these addresses to those memory devices storing the requested data, and transfers an identifier to the memory interface device. The memory device, in response, reads the data and transfers the data to its corresponding memory interface device. The memory interface device then adds to the data the identifier it received from the section controller and forwards the requested bits towards their destination, such that the data need not pass through the section controller.

  • Publication number: 20040088514
Abstract: A storage system that may include one or more memory devices, a memory interface device corresponding to one or more of the memory devices, which are organized in sections, a section controller, and a switch. The switch is capable of reading a data request including a data block identifier and routing the data request and any associated data through the switch on the basis of this data block identifier, such that a data request may be routed to a memory section. The section controller, in response, determines the addresses in the memory devices storing the requested data, and it transfers these addresses to those memory devices storing the requested data.

  • Patent number: 6708092
Abstract: A method of organizing parts of a data message that conform to a protocol, thereby providing an efficient manner to specify a vehicle component that is identified by a combination of data message parts. Specifically, individual Message Identification (MID) codes are organized into categories, while Parameter Identification (PID) codes are organized according to general function. Associations can then be established between the various codes and the categories or functions into which the codes are organized.

  • Publication number: 20030071555
Abstract: In an electron emitter based on Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor or Metal-Insulator-Metal emitters, field emission structures are enclosed within the emitter structure. The electron emitter may include a conductive substrate and an electron supply layer formed on the conductive substrate. The electron supply layer, for example undoped polysilicon, has protrusions formed on its surface. The sharpness and density of protrusions may be controlled. Above the electron supply layer and the protrusions, an insulator may be formed thereby enclosing the protrusions. A top conductive layer may be formed above the insulator. The enclosed protrusions are relatively insensitive to vacuum contamination. The thinness of the insulator allows high intensity electric fields at the protrusions to be generated with low applied voltage. Field-enhanced injection of electrons into the insulator and thence through the top conductive layer results. Furthermore, electron beam dispersion and divergence are minimized.

  • Patent number: 6437856
Abstract: A imaging device includes a light source, a detector, and an optical polarization system for video imaging of superficial biological tissue layers. The device relies on taking a set of measurements at different polarization orientations so as to render a new image that is independent of the light reflected from the surface of a tissue sample and that is independent of the light scattered from deep tissue layers. The device may comprise multiple light sources or multiple light detectors. The light source may provide light in a variety of forms such as coherent light and modulated light. Optical devices such as beam splitters, lens and mirrors may be utilized to allow images to be acquired along different light paths.

  • Publication number: 20020055995
Abstract: A global service management system (GSMS) for use in an advanced intelligent network is provided. The GSMS is adapted to communicate with two or more network element managers servicing SCPs and operating pursuant to different protocols. Upon receiving an update request message, the GSMS identifies the destination(s) of the message, translates the message into the protocol(s) used at the destination(s) as needed, and routes the translated message to the identified destination(s). In some embodiments, the GSMS is adapted to develop an indication of a status of a service package in response to a request message. The indication includes data identifying any changes in the service package occurring within a predefined time period.

  • Patent number: 6385006
Abstract: A disk drive system provides a low height device by mounting a circuit board or boards containing the electronic circuitry in the same enclosure with the head-disk assembly (HDA). The drive actuator mechanism is positioned at one side of one end of the enclosure and the circuit board or boards are positioned at the other side of that end of the enclosure. A gasket seals the HDA from contaminants, while the enclosure protects the electronic circuitry and cables from physical damage, electrostatic charges and electromagnetic interference. The circuit board or boards can be removed from the enclosure without removing the entire disk drive from the using system, and the entire drive assembly can readily be removed from the using system for replacement or use in another system.
