  • Patent number: 6822380
Abstract: In an electron emitter based on Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor or Metal-Insulator-Metal emitters, field emission structures are enclosed within the emitter structure. The electron emitter may include a conductive substrate and an electron supply layer formed on the conductive substrate. The electron supply layer, for example undoped polysilicon, has protrusions formed on its surface. The sharpness and density of protrusions may be controlled. Above the electron supply layer and the protrusions, an insulator may be formed thereby enclosing the protrusions. A top conductive layer may be formed above the insulator. The enclosed protrusions are relatively insensitive to vacuum contamination. The thinness of the insulator allows high intensity electric fields at the protrusions to be generated with low applied voltage. Field-enhanced injection of electrons into the insulator and thence through the top conductive layer results. Furthermore, electron beam dispersion and divergence are minimized.

  • Publication number: 20040228808
Abstract: An opioid formulation for pulmonary administration in the treatment or management of pain, a pulmonary drug delivery device containing method of administering, kit containing, and uses of same, The formulation contains at least one rapid-onset opioid and preferably also contains a sustained-effect opioid to reduce the frequency of administration. The invention employs the side effects of the opioid formulation to permit patients to self-limit drug intake, thereby avoiding toxicity while achieving analgesia. A pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic model is employed to determine optimum drug formulations and optimum parameters for administration.

  • Publication number: 20040223871
Abstract: Air freshener products and methods for freshening air are disclosed. In some embodiments, the air freshening product may include a container for storing an air freshening composition that may contain a perfume composition or may contain a perfume composition in conjunction with a malodor counteractant. The container may contain a propellant such as a compressed gas, and a dispenser; and the air freshening composition. The method of freshening air, in certain embodiments, delivers a consistent perfume release profile. If malodor counteractants are used, the method may also provide a reduction in malodors.

  • Publication number: 20040088477
Abstract: A storage system that may include one or more memory devices, a memory interface device corresponding to one or more of the memory devices, which are organized in sections, and a section controller. In this system, a data request for the data may be received over a communications path by a section controller. The section controller determines the addresses in the memory devices storing the requested data, transfers these addresses to those memory devices storing the requested data, and transfers an identifier to the memory interface device. The memory device, in response, reads the data and transfers the data to its corresponding memory interface device. The memory interface device then adds to the data the identifier it received from the section controller and forwards the requested bits towards their destination, such that the data need not pass through the section controller.

  • Publication number: 20040088393
Abstract: A storage system that may include one or more memory sections, one or more switches, and a management system. The memory sections include memory devices and a section controller capable of detecting faults with the memory section and transmitting messages to the management system regarding detected faults. The storage system may include a management system capable of receiving fault messages from the section controllers and removing from, service the faulty memory sections. Additionally, the management system may determine routing algorithms for the one or more switches.

Abstract: A storage system that may include one or more memory devices, a memory interface device corresponding to one or more of the memory devices, which are organized in sections, a section controller, and a switch. The switch is capable of reading a data request including a data block identifier and routing the data request and any associated data through the switch on the basis of this data block identifier, such that a data request may be routed to a memory section. The section controller, in response, determines the addresses in the memory devices storing the requested data, and it transfers these addresses to those memory devices storing the requested data.
