  • Publication number: 20110094752
Abstract: A well installation including metallic structure having downhole metallic tubing for conveying product towards the surface, a sub surface safety valve disposed in the downhole metallic tubing for interrupting flow of product towards the surface when closed and allowing flow of product towards the surface when open. Also, valve control means are disposed downhole and arranged for detecting electrical signals in the downhole metallic tubing and for holding the valve open while receiving an electrical signal, and surface signaling means for applying an electrical signal to metallic structure of the well for transmission via the downhole metallic tubing towards the valve control means so as to hold the valve open. The system can be made more robust by ensuring that the control means will only hold the valve open while receiving a signal of given characteristics to help prevent stray currents erroneously holding the valve open.

  • Patent number: 7878203
Abstract: A method of making shape-adaptable and spectral-selective distributed optical radiation sources, in the wavelength range between UV and mid-infrared, for therapeutic treatment using passive host medium containing nanocrystals is disclosed. The spectral output of the distributed optical radiation source is controlled by the nanocrystal size distribution that determines the spectral output of fluorescence radiation originating from these nanocrystals from within the said host medium, which contains the said nanocrystals, under excitation by an external source. The size of nanocrystals, or the size distribution of nanocrystals, incorporated in the host medium is selected based on the radiation spectral output required for therapeutic requirements. The passive host medium, incorporating the said nanocrystals, is made of adaptable, geometrically configurable, material that conforms to any desired shape.

  • Publication number: 20100266264
Abstract: Intelligent resource state memory recall techniques, and associated apparatus and methods, are disclosed. States of one or more video switcher resources in a resource state memory may be recalled to the same or different resources, depending on resource availability at the time of memory recall. A memory recall need not affect an on air signal. The memory may be recalled to recreate a desired program output, as defined in the memory, on a preview output of the video switcher, which leaves a current program output of the video switcher undisturbed when the memory is recalled.
