  • Publication number: 20060045108
Abstract: In a multinode data processing system in which nodes exchange information over a network or through a switch, a structure and mechanism is provided within the realm of Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) operations in which DMA operations are present on one side of the transfer but not the other. On the side in which the transfer is not carried out in DMA fashion, transfer processing is carried out under program control; this is in contrast to the transfer on the DMA side which is characteristically carried out in hardware. Usage of these combination processes is useful in programming situations where RDMA is carried out to or from contiguous locations in memory on one side and where memory locations on the other side is noncontiguous. This split mode of transfer is provided both for read and for write operations.

  • Publication number: 20060045099
Abstract: In a multinode data processing system in which nodes exchange information over a network or through a switch, the mechanism which enables out-of-order data transfer via Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) also provides a corresponding ability to carry out broadcast operations, multicast operations, third party operations and conditional RDMA operations. In a broadcast operation a source node transfers data packets in RDMA fashion to a plurality of destination nodes. Multicast operation works similarly except that distribution is selective. In third party operations a single central node in a cluster or network manages the transfer of data in RDMA fashion between other nodes or creates a mechanism for allowing a directed distribution of data between nodes. In conditional operation mode the transfer of data is conditioned upon one or more events occurring in either the source node or in the destination node.

  • Publication number: 20060034167
Abstract: A system and method are provided for facilitating zero-copy communications between computing systems of a group of computing systems. The method includes allocating, in a first computing system of the group of computing systems, a pool of privileged communication resources from a privileged resource controller to a communications controller. The communications controller designates the privileged communication resources from the pool for use in handling individual ones of the zero-copy communications, thereby avoiding a requirement to obtain individual ones of the privileged resources from the owner of the privileged resources at setup time for each zero-copy communication.

  • Publication number: 20060013682
Abstract: Turbochargers comprise a compressor housing having an air inlet passage for receiving inlet airflow, an air outlet passage for passing pressurized air to an engine combustion system, and a compressor impeller rotatably disposed within the housing for receiving air from the air inlet passage, pressurizing the inlet air, and passing the pressurized air to the air outlet passage. An air flow conditioner is placed into air flow communication with the compressor housing air inlet passage, and can be disposed within an air inlet section of the compressor itself, or can be placed within a vehicle air ducting positioned upstream from the turbocharger.

  • Publication number: 20050240620
Abstract: A unified web-based voice messaging system provides voice application control between a web browser and an application server via an hypertext transport protocol (HTTP) connection on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. The application server executes the voice-enabled web application by runtime execution of a first set of extensible markup language (XML) documents that define the voice-enabled web application to be executed. In addition, control data for the voice-enabled web application, and log files that record events that occur during execution of the voice-enabled web application, are generated and processed using an XML tag format. A second set of XML documents specify application parameters and control information to be used by the application runtime environment for execution of the first set of XML documents.

  • Publication number: 20050203392
Abstract: Receive circuits and associated methods are provided for ultrasound imaging. Both subarray mixing and time division multiplexing are provided with a same circuit. Components of the receive circuit respond to either phasing or time slot information to implement subarray mixing or time division multiplexing. A network of switches allows combination of signals from different elements to form different sub-apertures. A controller minimizes power consumption while outputting the desired phase or time division multiplexed information by gating a clock to various registers. Each of the registers corresponds to different groups of transducer elements. For loading new phasing information, the clock is turned on to the desired register. Duration operation of the receive circuit, the clock is gated off. The register outputs the previously loaded values in a static state without clocking.

  • Patent number: 6943982
Abstract: A lockout lever is hinged on the side of a slot in an I/O station of an automated library. The lever includes a leading blade and a trailing blade that protrude into the slot. The leading blade is urged open by a spring. When an LTO cartridge or a DLT cartridge in the wrong position is introduced into the slot, the forward motion of the cartridge is impeded by its substantially flat side that faces both the leading and trailing blades and prevents rotation of the lockout lever. When a DLT cartridge is introduced correctly, the cavity in its side accommodates the leading blade as the trailing blade is pushed out of the slot. The leading blade is sized to clear the gap in the door hinge of the DLT cartridge when removed from the interior of the station.

  • Publication number: 20050192809
Abstract: A unified web-based voice messaging system provides voice application control between a web browser and an application server via an hypertext transport protocol (HTTP) connection on an Internet Protocol (IP) network. The application server, configured for executing a voice application defined by XML documents, selects an XML document for execution of a corresponding voice application operation based on a determined presence of a user-specific XML document that specifies the corresponding voice application operation. The application server, upon receiving a voice application operation request from a browser serving a user, determines whether a personalized, user specific XML document exists for the user and for the corresponding voice application operation.

  • Publication number: 20050182461
Abstract: A method of making shape-adaptable and spectral-selective distributed optical radiation sources, in the wavelength range between UV and mid-infrared, for therapeutic treatment using passive host medium containing nanocrystals is disclosed. The spectral output of the distributed optical radiation source is controlled by the nanocrystal size distribution that determines the spectral output of fluorescence radiation originating from these nanocrystals from within the said host medium, which contains the said nanocrystals, under excitation by an external source. The size of nanocrystals, or the size distribution of nanocrystals, incorporated in the host medium is selected based on the radiation spectral output required for therapeutic requirements. The passive host medium, incorporating the said nanocrystals, is made of adaptable, geometrically configurable, material that conforms to any desired shape.

  • Publication number: 20050091390
Abstract: A system and method that utilizes a dedicated transmission queue to enable expedited transmission of data messages to adaptive “nearest neighbor” nodes within a cluster. Packet descriptors are pre-fetched by the communications adapter hardware during the transmission of the preceding data element and setup for the next transmission is performed in parallel with the transmission of the preceding data element. Data elements of a fixed length that is equal to the cache line size of the communication hardware can optionally be used to provide optimized transfer between computer memory and communications hardware. The data receiving processing can also be optimized to recognize and handle cache line size data elements.

Abstract: A method of operating a downhole component (for example a battery pack) comprising at least one electrolyte based element. The method comprising the steps of locating the component in a downhole environment and whilst the component is in the downhole environment subjecting the element to a pressure in excess of atmospheric pressure to suppress at least one of boiling and evaporation of electrolyte in the element. The component may then be operated at a temperature in excess of that which would be tolerated by the electrolyte based element if not subjected to a pressure in excess of atmospheric pressure.

  • Patent number: 6835291
Abstract: An anode monitoring system for monitoring the integrity of anodes 2 provided on a metallic structure such as a pipeline system 1. A signal circuit Sn including the pipeline 1 and one of the anodes 2 is set up and appropriate signals are looked for at a central station 4. Reception of the signal at the central station 4 is dependent on the integrity of the anode 2 under inspection at that time. If the anode 2 is missing or defective the expected signal is not received and thus the fault in the anode 2 can be detected. A notch filter 5 is inserted in series between each anode 2 and the pipeline 1. The filter 5 provides a high impedance which can be signalled across but does not interfere with the cathodic protection system.
