  • Patent number: 8427774
Abstract: A pass-through mechanism that couples a first linear tape library string to a second linear tape library string is maintained. A first robotic assembly associated with the first linear tape library string places a tape from the first linear tape library string into the pass-through mechanism. The pass-through mechanism moves the tape to a position where the tape can be removed by a second robotic assembly associated with the second linear tape library string. The second robotic assembly removes the tape from the pass-through mechanism and places the tape into the second linear tape library string.

  • Publication number: 20120209269
Abstract: A method for treating a fracture with a variable length nail is provided. The nail is configured for at least 5 mm of axial length change in each direction. An incision is made in proximity to a fractured bone and canal is cleared through the center of the bone. The variable length nail is inserted into the canal and a distraction shaft and a housing are secured to separate portions of the fractured bone. The incision is allowed or caused to close. An external adjustment device with at least one rotatable magnet is placed in proximity to the patient's skin. The external adjustment device is operated so that a magnetic field of the at least one rotatable magnet of the external adjustment device causes the rotatable permanent magnet of the variable length nail to rotate, causing either extension or retraction of the distraction shaft relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 8108890
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to automatically creating localized menus for interactive media such as, for example, DVD-Video menus, via a menu component comprising references to an instance of menu background data, a menu text template defining text positions and sets of menu texts in different texts. The menu is then derived by processing the menu component. This enables localized menus to be produced more cost-effectively and more quickly than in non-automated prior art methods.

  • Publication number: 20110161923
Abstract: The system includes a command set defining a plurality of navigation commands for an audiovisual reproduction apparatus and a human-oriented scripting program for automatically authoring a navigation structure for use in a stand alone audiovisual product playable in the audiovisual reproduction apparatus. The scripting program includes an iterative loop with a variable adjusted according to the iterations of the loop. The scripting program is operable to automatically, for each iteration of the loop; select from the plurality of navigation commands a navigation command defined according to the variable as adjusted for each iteration of the loop; and add the navigation command to an intermediate representation of the navigation structure. An associated method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 7912351
Abstract: Access to an audiovisual product is controlled by obscuring data. Cells 420 of audiovisual data A, B, C are reproduced by a sequence instruction 410 (e.g. a PGC or Program Chain). One such sequence instruction 410a correctly reproduces the audiovisual data A, B, C, but is hidden amongst many other sequence instructions 410b which incorrectly reproduce the sequence of cells 420 (e.g. as BAC, ACB, CAB, etc.).

  • Patent number: 7894157
Abstract: An apparatus to generate a spring force increasing in accordance with a quantity of tape media cartridges stored in a deep slot cell. The apparatus may include a deep slot cell, a biasing element including a torsion spring, and an advancement element. The deep slot cell may store one or more cartridges. The biasing element may generate a spring force toward the front of the deep slot cell such that the spring force generated increases in accordance with a number of cartridges stored in the cell. The advancement element may be positioned to apply the spring force to the cartridges, thereby advancing the cartridges toward the front of the deep slot cell.

Abstract: A first housing 2 includes a first part 4 and a second part 6, both of which comprise PEEK-OPTIMA (Trade Mark) polymer. The two parts 4, 6 are arranged to cooperate so that they can be laser welded and define a hermetically sealed housing 2 which may house electronic (and/or other) components and maintain them in a dry, sealed environment. The housing and contained electronic components may define an implantable device, for example a heart pacemaker, for long term implantation in a human body.
