  • Patent number: 8918836
Abstract: A current prefix character string representing a prefix of a proposed password may be obtained from a user input device. A prediction of a most likely next character of the proposed password may be determined, based on applying a set of heuristics to the current prefix character string. A response indicating an impact on a security strength of the proposed password may be determined, based on a selection of the predicted most likely next character.

  • Patent number: 8874720
Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring telecommunications network elements, especially where direct access to those network elements is not available. The invention allows a network manager to build and maintain significant relationship information, as well as model the state of network elements with a high degree of accuracy, but based only on the information contained within the transactions built from the network traffic which is being monitored. In particular, it allows the network manager to obtain the same results that would previously have required direct access to an operator's network elements.

  • Publication number: 20140309688
Abstract: In one embodiment, the present invention includes a method for securing tissue to bone, including drilling a bone hole into the bone; passing a filament through the tissue, the filament including a first end, a second end and a length therebetween, the second end having a loop; passing the first end of the filament through the loop of the filament; pulling on the first end of the filament such that the loop travels along the length of the filament and to the tissue; passing an anchor along the length of the filament, from the first end towards the loop and tissue; engaging the loop with a distal end of the anchor; positioning the distal end of the anchor, with the loop of the filament, into the bone hole; and securing the anchor in the bone.

  • Publication number: 20140089339
Abstract: Providing for dynamic auditing of components of a communication network is provided herein. By way of example, network components can be queried by way of dynamic and intelligent application programming interface (APIs) queries to extract data for the network components. Such data can then be compared with best practice rules to identify potential enhancements to efficiency or scalability of such components. In some aspects, an audit report can be output summarizing identified enhancements. In other aspects, data can be written to an updated component according to protocols suited to such component. Accordingly, an audit can provide feedback in light of best practices or can be utilized to dynamically upgrade a legacy system to newer system software and/or hardware components.

  • Patent number: 8638693
Abstract: A method and system for configuring wireless communication of survey sensors and controllers is recited. In one embodiment, a survey device controller is configured to receive a first wireless communication comprising a sequence indicating that a survey device is configured to participate in an automatic configuration process with the survey device controller. The system further comprises the survey device which is configured to generate a second wireless communication indicating the reception of a selection event to communicatively couple the survey device with the survey device controller. The survey device controller is further configured to automatically initiate a wireless communication connection comprising the survey device controller and the survey device in response to receiving the second wireless signal contemporaneous with receiving a signal which is generated by the survey device controller to communicatively couple the survey device controller with the survey device.

  • Patent number: 8549657
Abstract: Systems and methods that regulate range of access to personal information of a mobile unit's owner. The access control component can designate granularity for access levels and/or a spectrum of access modes—(as opposed to a binary choice of full access or no access at all). Such access can be based on a spectrum and/or discrete trust relationship between the owner and user of the mobile unit. A profile definition component can exploit an owner's trust relationships to designate levels of security. The profile definition component can further define a profile based on a set of applications, such as entertainment mode, browser mode, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20130212385
Abstract: Various technologies pertaining to authenticating a password in a manner that prevents offline dictionary attacks are described. A protected module, which can be a hardware security module, a trusted platform module, or the like, is in communication with an authentication server. The protected module comprises a key that is restricted to the protected module. The key is employed in connection with authenticating the password on the protected module.

  • Publication number: 20110296523
Abstract: The access control management technique described herein manages access control to one or more resources. Rather than mapping individuals or groups to permissions, the technique maps each permission (the right to perform an action on a resource) to the list of authorized principals (the users and groups authorized to perform the action on the resource). These lists are written in text form just as one would write the list of recipients (individuals and groups) of an email composition window. The technique also provides various operations to allow a user to manage the list of authorized principals and the authorizations assigned to a principal to access the resource/action pair.
