  • Publication number: 20060273919
Abstract: There is provided a warning indicator with a liquid crystal lens, suitable for warning indication in various types of instruments. It uses a liquid crystal lens to display an image in an appropriate scale on an indication panel. The warning indicator with a liquid crystal lens includes a light source such as LED, and a two-layer liquid crystal lens (4) disposed over a character or symbol indicated by the light source and which is formed from a twisted nematic liquid crystal cell (1) and a lens-shaped homogeneous liquid crystal cell (3). The focal distance of the liquid crystal lens (4) is electrically varied to allow a virtual image of the character or symbol indicated in a meter to appear larger or smaller than its real size.

  • Patent number: 7079245
Abstract: Light from a light source 10 is linearly polarized by a polarizer 11. Then it propagates via a half-mirror 12 almost parallel to the normal to a reflective liquid-crystal panel 13 and falls on the reflective liquid-crystal panel 13. The reflected light reflected by the reflective liquid-crystal panel 13 is received by a detector 15 via the half-mirror 12 and an analyzer 14. In this state, the reflective liquid-crystal panel 13 is rotated about an axis almost parallel to the normal to the reflective liquid-crystal panel 13 and an angle (extinction angle) at which the output signal of detector 15 reaches minimum is measured. Then, the gap of the reflective liquid-crystal panel 13 is detected based on the measured extinction angle.

  • Patent number: 7009819
Abstract: A head substrate and a protective substrate are formed of an electrostatic-discharge resistant conductive material having an electrical resistivity of 102 to 1010 ?cm. These substrates are electrically connected to a base metal through the use of conductive paste and are set to a ground potential via the base metal and a rotating drum. This suppresses a discharge current flowing through an MR element when an electrostatically charged substance touches or approaches a magnetic reproducing head, a terminal, a conducting wire, etc. to generate an electrostatic discharge. The magnetic reproducing head including an MR element and the like is prevented against an electrostatic discharge damage. It is possible to provide the magnetic reproducing head, a head drum apparatus, and a magnetic recording-reproducing apparatus which can highly effectively prevent an electrostatic discharge damage.
